Take me to the universe where the Saucony execs said “the Speed 2 is pretty much perfect so let’s change nothing and just keep it in stock forever”…

It's called speed, I'll sacrifice a bit of stability gladly for it to feel speedy. Now they've just neutered the speed aspect in favour of stability. Wrong move imo.

This is super helpful because most of us have probably run in at least one of these to use as a reference point. The Hyperion Max is another shoe that needs some break-in. Deviate Nitro 2 is an exception because it has been the same at mile one and mile 500 but is still durable.

Excellent comparison and analysis, thanks. I'm trying lots of shoes to see which suit me best, and am erring towards Hoka Mach 6 for shorter runs and some fun, ES3 for longer runs and tempos, and keeping my old Speed 2s for 5-10K fast runs. Probably not going to keep the Superblasts, but might find a place for the Novablasts. Happy to have several shoes, they should last at least a year for me.

Hey Yowana, I have a random question about the SCV2. How much room do you like to have in front of your big toe? I had sz11 in the V1 and had almost a full thumbnail space. I got sz10.5 in the V2 because all my other NBs are 10.5 and I figured since they changed from the sock upper a 10.5 would be better. So now I have a 1/2 thumbnail space which I was obviously expecting but just wanted to get your ideas about this? Have you noticed the V2 loosening at all? Is half thumbnail space pretty standard for runners? Thanks for your time and take care.
@supwell
@supwell 4 месяца назад
i go 10.5 US mens in most shoes and the sc trainer v2 feels good for me in that size. the upper in general tho has a little bit of a weird fit - it's definitely the shoe's weakest point. in terms of the space in the front, as long as you're not experiencing discomfort when you run you should be okay. if there's a lot of rubbing then you may want to go up a size - i haven't needed to do that though
@i.p2088

How is the sizing with the Mizuno Flash V2? Same size as the Endorphin Speed 2 and 3? Fits narrow? Size up?

When will shoe manufacturers stop releasing new shoes every year? Customers are not asking for this, unless there is a technological advancement to make the shoe faster, lighter and comfier without sacrifice. Its 2 years in a row that the speed has been degrading (almost 30 grams heavier).

Sounds like the speed 4 might still be an interesting option for a daily uptempo shoe then. Different use case. The 1 and 2 where ‘unique’ for me in that they handled both speed work and long run workouts very well. For speed work I mostly use the Takumi Sen 8 now, spunds like the Boston is an interesting atlernative. I still haven’t found the ideal shoe for long run workouts yet (marathon training). Endorphin Pro 4 has the ‘snap’, but gives me hotspots after about half marathon. Endorphin Speed 3 doesn’t quite do it. Nike Tempo works surprisingly well, but always feels clunky. About to test the Superblast, hope that works!

Do you plan on testing the Atreyu Race Model? I’ve heard the carbon plate in that shoe is more flexible and not as aggressive as the top tier racers. It could be a great shoe to compare with the Endorphin Speed 4. Also, the shoe retails for $120 and you can normally find a coupon code for at least 10% off. Would love to hear your thoughts on this shoe.

I've heard many reviewers saying certain shoes "bottom out" over longer runs. Do you mean they gradually compress too much over a long run, losing their bounce, cushion, or both? I find the term confusing, just as there's confusion between the terms "bounce" and "responsiveness."
@supwell
@supwell 4 месяца назад
for me, bottoming out means the foam isn't doing its job protecting my legs. so i can feel the ground more than i normally would wearing that shoe, and i'm also not getting the same bounce and shock absorption. it makes it feel like i'm running barefoot or in a much lower stack shoe. thanks for asking for clarification - i'll make sure to explain this when i use the term moving forward

Current rotation: boston 12, puma deviate nitro elite 2, ASICS magic speed 3, mizuno wave rebellion, and brooks aurora-bl. Boston 12 is still what I enjoy grabbing the most. Do you plan on picking up/testing the diadora v7000 átomo? The description of your use case for the speed4 makes it too much of a casual/easy mile shoe that can double for errands which in that case it would make more sense to get something that looks way better and non-plated

Speed 3, in many countries, is sold out in most common sizes. Especially if you need a wider fit or want the most common sizes.
@timtrenholm3698

I wish the ankle padding on the Boston 12 that they have on the sides actually connected, or remove most of the side padding to only cover the back half moon of the ankle. I think this would fix a lot of heel lift issues. Adios 6 heel pocket is perfect, and that shoe is on the lighter end. Boston 12 back heel pocket is so flat and rigid, that I need to use KT tape to reduce the heel lift. I seem to have similar problems in the lasts of every Saucony shoe I've tried to some degree. The Speed 1 was ok if I really locked the shoe down, but the Speed 3 upper is so stretchy that on longer runs I think it stretched and then contributed to the heel lift. Maybe it's time I just abandon certain companies and stick to the ones that have heels that naturally work for me, like Asics daily/recovery shoes and Nike racers. I'd probably end up with less shoes on the go at any given time! LOL Great comparison video, as always.

Is the Boston 12 much different to the 10?
@Shipwreckruns
@Shipwreckruns 4 месяца назад
It is for me. Wider forefoot, it’s lighter overall, the Litestrike 2.0 is a bit softer, there’s more litestrike pro, the rods are different which makes the heel less firm, a bit more rocker, and the upper is very thin like the adios /takumi series. Overall, I really love mine, they are very easy to lock into a pace and cruise. I’m a lighter runner and I’ve run everything from 10 to 7 minute per mile pace in them with no problems. Just needed a bit of break in, but not as much as my 10/11s. Hope this helps.

mine at 500miles+ and durability is still great and can easily last another 200-300 miles except the logo tearing off, most probably gonna get another pair of Speed 3 during sales if Speed 4 is indeed moving towards daily trainer category rather than uptempo shoes.
@mattbeier
@mattbeier 4 месяца назад
I have the Magic Speed 3 and what a fun shoe. It’s great at all paces but the more aggressive carbon plate likes when you land mid to forefoot for those faster efforts. Due to the geometry, it’s an easy shoe to hold pace. The upper is fits like a race day shoe with an excellent lockdown (no runner’s knot needed for me). The Magic Speed 3 reminds me of the Endo Speed 1 which I put 415 miles on before retiring them due to the midsole response fading away.
@anthonyvollmer4001
@anthonyvollmer4001 4 месяца назад
@chinpoeykhoo6261 I weigh around 180lbs. The shoes look basically brand new except some shredding foam around the perimeter of the outsole rubber, which also has a good amount of tread left. The foam just doesn't have the same give anymore and the toe box is starting to loosen. I usually run on a lot of concrete / brick roads and it's become unpleasant. I already have the magic speeds standing by, but maybe I'll get another pair of speed 3s when they go on sale for some quicker 10-20k runs.

Ive had a much different experience with the speed 4 so far. I had over 300 miles in my speed 3. It definitely felt fast, but softer and easier to run easy paces. The speed 4 for me does not feel good at slow paces. Its firmer, more responsive, and stiffer. Took it for 11 mile tempo out of the box and it felt much speedier than my 3. Everyone's mileage varies though. I also have the SC v2. Really not even comparable. Speed much much firmer and faster for me. Same effort im probably running 30-40 seconds faster in the speed. Fit for Speed 4 is very similar to 3. Wide toe box, good lockdown, still runs a bit short so if between sizes i go up in pretty much all Saucony shoes.

nice thanks for the insight! i love having different data points so this is super helpful. i'm curious - how big are you and what paces are you running? for context, i'm 6' 2" and 160 lbs, run my daily miles around 7:00 to 8:00 pace and workouts around 5:40 to 6:40 pace
@Strongforthem365
@Strongforthem365 4 месяца назад
@@supwell love it! Definitely didn't mean to sound negative either. Just giving different opinions on the shoe to show we can all have different experiences and really comes down to preference! And who knows, after a few more miles my preference could change too. I'm about 197lbs at 5' 10" coming from a weightlifting background so carry quite a bit of muscle compared to most runners. Easy paces typically around 8:30-9:30 and workouts ranging from 6:15-7:45. So that could definitely play a role in the difference of opinion too! Appreciate the feedback and all the work on the videos.

Do you really need a plated tempo trainer? Plates are such a new thing, a lot of people presumably did just fine with foam trainers? Are there non-plated trainers suited for tempo workouts? The mach 6? Superblast? Rebel?
@supwell
@supwell 4 месяца назад
great question. you definitely don't need a plated shoe to train well. i quit plated training shoes for 6 months last year and then ran my half marathon PR (i did use a plated shoe on race day). the benefit of the plate though is that when paired with the thick stack of foam it makes hard running a little easier on the legs, which can speed up recovery and allow you to train harder more often in terms of non-plated tempo shoes, the ones you mentioned are great. my favorites are rebel v3, mach 5 and brooks hyperion max. here are some of the new ones coming out this year that i'm excited about ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VkzDbShLPBU.html
