Just raced the Twisted Branch 100k in these. The trails were dry and the grip was fantastic. On roads or hard packed dirt they are absolutely amazing. Every stride was just a little longer and my legs felt fresh deep into the race. First race in a while with no muscle tears or swollen joints. Top marks. Only 70 miles into the shoe so far, no evidence of coming apart yet. I am a big fan and will buy it again.

@@TheGingerRunner I would describe them as a slightly more flexible and stable Endorphin Pro with lugs. Definitely work like super shoes for the trails. My EVO Speedgoats died (546mi) before the race. My second choice for the race was the Tecton X. The Endorphin Edge felt just a little more cushioned and also more efficient. We are spoiled for great shoes right now and it looks like it is going to keep getting better! Thanks for the reviews :)

@@christopherbrand5360 sorry to hear about your evo speedgoats. I have ~200 miles on mine but also have a fresh pair that I frantically bought and stored away thankfully. I could only find 1/2 size up so I hope they still work!

@@jp05598 The midsole foam of my EVO SGs tore through all the way up to the foot bed in the heel on both feet during a long run on very steep technical trails. I guess I was abusing that marshmallow foam with heel striking on long, fast descents. At over 500 miles the shoes didn’t owe me anything. I do think I like the Endorphin Edge just as well after how it did in my 100k.

I’ve had a blast running in mine so far, I agree the wet grip is not the absolute best but the other qualities offset that enough to keep these at top of my favorites list. I will definitely not be mowing the yard in these.

Nice review, The bad things about this shoe are definitely major deal breakers. The upper and grip in wet conditions are absolutely vital. Way overprised for what you get in quality. Really wanted to like this shoe. Thanks for the great Review.

have about 30 miles in my Edge's so far and really enjoy them! plan to have them as my race day shoe for the Pikes Peak Marathon. LOVE the accommodating toe box and the responsiveness is a blast. at the same time the comfort has been great and I feel like I can go slow and long with my runs as well. only thing is I feel like the heel lock is a must otherwise I feel like you'll experience slippage as you go down hills/mountains.

I own it - and should have used it during Leadville - but those same hesitations (material, durability, tread on wet) made me reconsider. Great shoe (for the dry) - I found the fit even more generous in the toe box than the Xodus Ultra, but with a better lacing lock than the X.

I'm a big advocate of the Saucony Endorphin Speed Road shoes (2 esp) but this shoe is poor, from the upper to the ride. The sizing for my narrow feet is over by at least a half and I did actually half size down in these, the upper is far too cavenous for a part of the shoe that should be snuggly attached to your foot and no matter how tight I pull the laces I can't get that ideal lockdown, certainly not one I can fully trust. As for the ride, I understand that they're meant to be stiff but I think they're too stiff, the ride isn't as bouncy as reported imo, in fact as I am stuck with them because I completed a muddy trail race in them I was so frustrated with the stiffness that i ended up bending them from heel to toe and I heard a pop so I think Ive snapped the plate - I did the same to the other side and got the same BUT in doing so they actually ride a lot a better now - not as stiff (PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO YOUR PAIR!) I'll keep them as a trainer for summer trails, they dont perform well in the cold/mud.

ADORE this shoe. took it deep into San Juan range near durango colorado and even it those wet muddy conditions it held up amazing. love the bounce. i thought the grip did great. i can see what you're saying in glossy wet rock conditions but i felt the lugs bit dirty and gravel enough for me to have plenty of confidence opening up my stride. saving these for all races or BIG weekend outings. love them.

My honest review: Sole is too soft I twisted my ankle 3 times on one run, unless you use those on non technical trails, otherwise that’s not a good shoe at all. As you can see I have 8 Saucony I think those are quite bad.. sorry but am not happy at all to buy at a premium price and not getting value for money Reply from Saucony Canada: Our team has carefully read your review, and although it did not meet all of our website guidelines, we appreciate the thought and time that went into it.

Toe box width just enough for my ridiculously wide feet. Love running in them, but also worried about longevity. The lugs seem to have a fair amount of chunking and scuffing after only 15 miles of very dry conditions.

Wait you think the Peregrines have good grip? Man when I went from them to the Speedgoat 4s it felt like a world of change. I didn't feel like I could push hard on wet rocks in the Peres and I have so much more confidence in the Vibram on wet techy New England trails

@@fynthemtns I hear you! I've ended up using the Speed Goat 4s for all my runs longer than 20 and last 3 ultras. Love them! I do think I'm just in between sizes in the SG4 so I get bruised toes on the half size up and too tight a fit with normal sizing. Saucony sizing has served me well and I like the Peregrines for the lighter ride and the toe box. The grip has served me pretty well in muddier runs, but I felt the lack of cushioning and had for pain after several runs over 20 miles. Typing this all up, I realize that may just be picky as hell. 😂

Great review! I haven't tried the Endorphin Edge yet but you may have convinced me to. I normally run in the SG4 and now 5's but I can't take the tongue anymore in the 5's. It at a hole in the tops of both feet at the top of the laces during my last 100. The 4's did as well in a previous 100 but not as bad as the 5's. I have a hot and very technical 100 coming up so I need a new trail shoe and again am considering this one except for one thing; the lack of grip on wet rocks. I will have to go through several streams and will encounter lots of rocks some of which will be wet. Hmmm? I am also interested in the Exodus Ultra and the Hoka Malfate 4 for the race. Any thoughts? Thanks again for the review! Super informative!!
@christopherbrand5360
@christopherbrand5360 Год назад
I have both the Edge and the Exodus Ultra. The grip is the same for the two shoes. They are pretty similar, the edge is shifted towards a road super shoe in performance and the ultra is a more traditional trail shoe. They both have the bouncy, soft foam but the edge is faster and more propulsive. The ultra also feels heavier and more solidly constructed. I would guess the ultra lasts half again as many miles compared to the edge. I would not hesitate to do stream crossings in either shoe. They are not freakishly sticky, but they are certainly not slick (like my Salomon SLab Ultra Pro 3s). I would rate the wet rock/log grip as average - pretty good. The other shoe to try is the Hoka Tecton X.

@@christopherbrand5360 , thanks again for all of the information! Probably going to give the Xodus Ultra a try soon. Also interested in the Hoka Tectron X, or whatever their carbon plated shoe is called although I'm thinking that shoe would have the same crappy tongue. thanks again!

At first, I was like “Wah wah. Wet grip. Sad face.” But, whoa, dude! A buy at $200! Rare air. Really want to try this shoe now. I’ve put a similar amount of miles on the Xodus Ultra and I feel pretty much the exact same on that shoe. Upper, midsole, grip, overall fit & feel are awesome, but durability is a concern. Do you find a noticeable enough difference between the two on the trails to give the Endorphin Edge a try?
