Fluffy birch. The leaves are alternate, simple, 3.5-7 cm long, triangular-rhombic or ovate, pointed, double-serrate, without warts on the upper surface (like drooping birch), at a young age light green, sticky, later dark green. Young leaves are densely pubescent, then pubescence is preserved only from below and on the petioles. Previously, in relation to the species, the name white birch (lat. Betula alba) was also used, but now, in order to avoid confusion with drooping birch (lat. Bétula péndula), to which the name “white birch” was also applied in the past, it is proposed to avoid use of the name white birch.
Warty birch. The branches are covered with resinous glands - warts, from which the birch got its name "warty". Young branches stretch downward, this gives the crown a characteristic appearance, hence its second name "drooping".
