Romans needed complete legion. Roman archers might have made a difference.

Archers would have probably been OP for this. I saw a round where it was Evil vs Romans on a beachhead and archers basically BTFO'd the round for them. As long as their worst melees were wasting time on the meat, they couldn't be touched.

I had the same thought as well. At first, I found myself emotionally invested in the Roman soldiers as they struggled to climb the steep slopes. However, after several minutes had passed, I gradually started to immerse myself in Sauron as he descended from the mountain's summit. When creating long battle videos like this, it's not uncommon for the focus of immersion to shift during the course of the battle. It adds another enjoyable element to the battle video. You can see the hit points/health on each unit if you select them. And the owner of this channel knows that, as he has done this before. However very rarely.. The question is why?? As it would've been very interesting and added a lot to the vid, if we gotten to know how much hit points/health Sauron at a minimum had left. And as well those "Chaos space marine looking knight with huge bronze axes", as they were about as tanky as a TANK!! Jeeez.. Near immortal!

How bloody the characters are is linked to their health, essentially showing you how much health they have left, without being as intrusive as having health bars everywhere.

These are legit fun to watch. I guess my question is, having never played the game, what's the underlying tactic? Several times the army ran back down the mountain to kill 20 units versus going to the next level or forming up and advancing

Necro reply but it's deserved none the less. It comes down to the AI really. Stock game has it team vs. team and with 3 settings, 2 of which are attack and hold. The troops will autopath to each other (why it's important to never skip the loading screen as it builds up the navmesh) and attack the other. If you watch other videos and notice a troop, vehicle, or whatever seem like they are glitching, that's the AI trying to decide on a target since the games AI is designed to assault the closest enemy first. It is worth getting but try not to run it on a potato, unless you don't mind lag.

Think the Romans were massively outnumbered, comparing how many times a defender had to be hit to be killed, to just one hit for a Roman to be killed, great battle tho :)

Probably would have been better if the defenders didn't leave their defensive positions where they could easily fight off their more numerous attackers by channelling them into pinchpoints. Instead, though, they just charged down the mountain, giving up their strategic position and got themselves slaughtered.

As strong as you made Sauron and his army, why didn't you put all Roman Generals and add some archers? The Romans were at a disadvantage because of the mountain. It narrowed them down. They were just lining up for the slaughter. Do it again with only Roman Generals and archers on a different map.

Although goblins only composing 11% of the sauron's army they commit 53% of the felonies, sauron choice to make them the front line seems intentional.
