Sausage Party 2: Foodtopia is bad, and makes you wonder why are they making this in the first place? Has Animation, Seth Rogen, and society gone this far?
The ending of the original _Sausage Party_ really leaves a huge pain in my memory. The fact that the movie's sense of "humor" hasn't changed in the sequel is a recipe for disaster.
Sausage Party made me think that Seth's humor is a CIA torture technique. Like, imagine being an ISIS soldier, and instead of getting waterboarded, you are forced to watch this shit for an entire week as your brain rots away...
TLDR - Just watch Smiling Friends instead. Especially after how horribly the workers were treated during the production of Seth Rogen's grocery store fever dream.
Yeah. Not to mention that Smiling Friends series is created by the same guy who made a video _"GET OUT OF MY CAR NOW!"_ Plus, it has tons of Internet references, so that makes the series a veteran from the web.
Sausage party came out around the same time as Kubo and the Two Strings, and somehow made more money. This fact is almost enough to keep me up at night. Almost.
Fr but unlike Megamind, which was a masterpiece and one of the best DreamWorks and animated movies, in my opinion we’re getting a sequel to one of the worst animated movies of all time
Still can't believe Seth Rogan calls Super Mario Bros 1993 the worst movie ever made when he casually made one of the worst animated films of all time, and is trying to get a sequel for it. 💀💀
Is it me or did the animation take a massive downgrade? Cause while I dont really remember Sausage Party, I do remember it having pretty decent movie quality animation.
For the first Sausage Party controversial, they lost the lawsuit in the end and have to paid the animator for the unpaid OT that they have to do and becos of this lawsuit. A lot of studio in Vancouver start to have paid OT and more tight on OT policy. Some studio still pull similar shit like what Sausage Party did tho.
This genuinely looks worse visually than megamind 2. Like, this is 2000s quality cgi. Side by side, the original movie’s animation is infinitely more charming and expressive. There was no reason this had to be a shitty tv series when sausage party actually did well.
I remember back people were praising this movie because it wasn’t like those generic family animated movies and also it was making fun of those generic family animated movies
Wait I thought that hotdog sculpture in time square was some kind of criticism about male fragility/toxic masculinity or something like that, I swear I heard about it being that But no it's just a promotion for show of an almost 10 year old movie no one liked? Idk which is worst
The former. The former’s worse. Yeah this is bad too but it seemed like all those idiots were having fun hyping up something in the time square and I’d rather that than a shitty or just plain bizarre political stunt with the possibility that some people will use it as a way to say “men bad men bad!”
I heard the same thing too, but the commentary is so strange that people are like "yeah giant hot dog, and it makes an ejaculation joke which is funny." Modern political commentary and art is so bad, all it does is make the thing you're criticizing look good, and that's from both sides.
The only thing about this movie that made it somewhat successful was grandparents taking grandchildren thinking it was a kid movie and then getting to the final scene💀
Sausage Party remains one of the few films i've read the script for and can say it handled several moments BETTER in the original script compared to the final film. The "physical party" scene wasn't a store-wide thing that felt like they didn't know how to end the film. It was a moment of mutual vulnerability for just the main group of five to prepare for what would likely be their last day alive before they go into that final war sequence. (to add to the audacity of this entire analysis; Like That One Scene in the original "It" novel both film adaptations left out, but INFINITELY less creepy) The guacamole guy who exists for one "hit in the groin" joke is a full-on secondary villain who gets to make that joke AND go out on a high note. The main villain had an entire thing where he became a rat king and wept at the death of one of the first rats he tamed and it was portrayed as a moment where the last bit of civility in his heart crumbled away. The entire thing was still a disaster, but it had moments where a genuine attempt at adult animation that wasn't JUST using it for crude humor was poking out. There was a time when the movie was trying to be earnest. And they threw it out in favor of what we have now.
I wish Seth would just focus on his ceramics since he's far more likeable when he does that stuff. Serious the Great Canadian Pottery Throwdown is the best thing Seth has done in a long time
I was 8 years old when sausage party came out and it was the most taboo thing in elementary schooler could talk about with his friends at the lunch table, but looking back as a 15 going on 16 year old, it's probably the most immature piece of animation I've ever had the displeasure of seeing bits and pieces of online because no way in hell I'm watching the whole thing. It's everything that's wrong with adult animation, just a bunch of swearing violence and sex simply because it's rated R so you can do that. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for sommore raunchy humor, I'm the same guy who loves South Park seasons 1 through 16, but the difference with that is it's not the only point of substance. You can be mature and appeal to adults while still having more to you than just the fact that you're not for kids.
What sort of fucked up version of ratatouille did I just stumble upon???? Also the animation looks like it came out the same year as the movie (which was 2016 if I remember correctly) or way further back in time than that considering the TV shows we have now based on their animation (except for megamind rules. That shit can burn and rot in hell for all I care.)
Wait, there's a sequel?! There must have been no marketing for this, I didn't see any. The first one I loved but I can see that the quality didn't match of this sequel didn't match the original...
The difference with 'Adult Animation' between Sausage Party/Hazbin and Smiling Friends is that Smiling Friends uses more adult topics like swearing or references to sex/drugs in a subtle, refined way that feels as human as it's random genuine conversations between characters. It acts as an animation should, aiming to be entertaining, without the shackles of "Oh, well kids are going to watch this and we have to protect their sensitive little eyes so we can't say swears or have any sort of mild sexual reference like kissing." It can use those topics as part of the plot to feel more natural (like, for example, Mustard's relationship with Simon S. Salty, or Charlie getting his nose ripped off) "Adult" Animation is just characters saying swear words and slurs and acting rapey because lol wacky adult animation for ADULTS aren't you ADULTS happy that the KIDS can't watch this animation???
At this rate we’re going to have an unironic Foodfight! mini series where the executive producers will miraculously figure out how to make the animation and lighting even less appealing than the original film
Honestly, I think the reason adult animation has so much shock humor, is because there's a general belief that animation is for kids. So by using shock humor, the show can say, "We're not for kids, we're edgy."
Foodtopia is just Megamind 2…again. Pitiful “sequels” to movies that we are getting way too late in to the time span where we all just moved on and expect the fans of the original to come back and watch this.
What are you talking about? 😂 When *Sausage Party* came out, everyone thought it was hilarious and considered it an immersive masterpiece! Where were you? I remember being in the theater, and everyone was dying laughing and having a great time! I can't take these new Gen Z kids seriously LOL 😂
I didn't know there was a sequel to this movie! I won't watch it, the animation looked ugly and the horrible humor is still there plus there's a poop joke. No thank's, i don't want to see that 😐
The thing that bugs me the most about this is they set up a sequel with the ending of the movie where they found out they were a cartoon and were gonna go to our world to find their voice actors; that could've totally been used to take the show in a more meta direction and give it at least any semblance of worth but instead they just threw that concept out the door in exchange for whatever this will be
You explained exactly why I hate adult animations like Sausage Party and Hazbin Hotel. It tries too hard to be mature by unnecessary cursing and edgy humor.
Could the lack of quality for animations nowadays be attributed to the high demand of media? If you think about it, animation alone is just ridiculously demanding, and the competition is fierce. Let alone the entire anime genre dominating thanks to the normalization of it. I think there’s just too many streaming services, too many exclusive shows, too much media in general, with not enough resources to go around. I think that’s why examples like this and Megamind 2 are so prevalent in discussions because they came from a time, as recent as it may be, when animation was respected, treated like art, no matter how ridiculous the concept may be.
Even though the movie wasn't that good, I thought that its box office success would lead to a new renaissance in adult animated film in theaters like what happened with Fritz the Cat in 1972. On top of that, It and Deadpool were box office successes at the time as well, so it was like Hollywood was finally remembering that R-rated films can be just as profitable as PG-13 films (seriously, PG-13 has been a huge crutch in Hollywood. The only exception to that are animated films which are either G or PG, never PG-13 like 9. And the distinction between PG and G has basically been obliterated. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish warranted the PG rating (then again, all the Shrek movies warranted PG but still), there's no reason for Pixar films to suddenly be PG now). But nothing happened. The indie community and TV have had a renaissance in adult animation, but the theaters never got that again and I don't know why. Also, say what you want about Hazbin Hotel, but there's a reason it resonated with people, especially at the time (get your mind out of the gutters guys, I'm not talking about porn or content farms, I'm being serious). It was trying to do something different (the premise, the characters and just the fact that it tried to be a Disney level musical which we never really saw an adult cartoon do. Maybe we have, but if there was, it either never left an impression and/or was incredibly obscure), and it was very high quality for a web cartoon (plus, it was a passion project from an animation newcomer after she's already got an audience). Something else that I loved about it at the time (and still do), is the artstyle. It's unique, expressive, beautiful, cute, bright and you can immediately recognize Vivziepop's artstyle just from a quick glance. At the time (while there were exceptions like Bojack Horseman or Archer), whenever you saw an adult cartoon, the artstyle was either "generic, boring Family Guy sitcom ripoff" or "the grossest and ugliest visuals you can imagine." They never tried to look nice or pretty since they wanted to make it super clear that it wasn't for children, and the content showed that sentiment.
Man those adults waith their bullcrap adult animations Cant we kids also have some GOOD shows like i get it animation is for everyone but these last few decades us kids got NOTHING
Me: (gasps) FRANK! BRENDA! BARRY! AND SAMMY! FRONT AND CENTER!!! (the four foods run up) Why I oughta throw you disgusting foods down the garbage disposal for demonstrating such rude behavior and for using such foul language!!!
at least Sausage Party is its own thing that stays consistent to its creators vision rather than being a corrupted reboot of something else. its not good but it deserves to exist. like with Hazbin Hotel, media that is just about sex and drugs and swearing is preferable to, for example, a Scooby Doo reboot/spinoff about sex and drugs and swearing.
Why am I not surprised? On that note, Vivzie Pop is a big fan of Seth Rogen's humor and enjoyed Sausage Party which contributed to the swearing/shock humor for Hazbin. (Still this Hazbin is the better of the two).
They are on the same playing field. HH and HB have the illusion of "depth" and "nuance" much like Sausage party but fails with the same amount of substance and subtly. Both are an equal waste of time, money, and fail miserably as an adult show.
From the title, you made it sound as though the show already came out when it hasn't yet (I at first was confused and thought that the show just came out until I looked up the release date). I'm not saying "you don't know it's bad until it comes out," of course it's going to be bad, I'm just saying that the title should at least make that more clear.
