Saute Pan vs Skillet. Difference Between Saute Pan & Skillet Frying Pan | Saturday Tip of the Week. My tip for this week is the difference between a saute pan and a skillet or frying pan. Every fully equipped kitchen needs both of these types of cookware because they have different uses and performance. Both of these pans are essential cooking equipment for the home cook.

The saute pan is best for versatility. Then, add the skillet and an 8 quart stock pot. And finally, round out the set with a 2 or 3 quart sauce pan. I also have a Finex 12" skillet, which I used more than my other cookware. It'll do just about everything I need except for making pasta sauce. That's where my saute pan comes in.

I only use saute pans because of the high walls so i dont get so much of the frying fat all over the stove.

Thank you Eric, you explained to me perfectly what i needed to know, I need a sauté pan because I cook a lot of pasta dishes that have to be tossed around in plenty of sauces, so that is perfect, and thank you also to Amy for explaining the difference between a skillet and a sauté pan because over here in the U.K we don't use the term skillet, so I was a little confused, so basically a skillet is a frying pan.

I love those shiny as new pots! I like using Barkeep's Friend to try to get my pots back to that state, but your results seem better than mine. What do you use? Oh, nevermind. I saw your other answers. I guess I need some blue scrubbies.

I have used the All-Clad cookware for a number of years and have found them to be well worth the money. Some are twenty years old and still look great. For non stick fry pans, I but cheap $20 pans and when they beat up I buy another. Nice video and information

So informative. Amy I just invest in an All-Clad 10 piece cookware to get away fr nonstick pans. I am spending more time cleaning the pans than cooking. Even sautéing onions where I use little oil stains the pan and it’s so hard to get the stains off. Cooking for frying an egg. I used Bar Keepers Friend to clean but it’s taking me 15mins plus. And some serious scrubbing. Is this normal for stainless steel or what am I doing wrong. Really got me thinking of set is for me.

Thank you Ramona. I see Hamburger Helper mentions to use a skillet, without telling me what a skillet is. So I found this helpful too. I think I had it backwards also.

How do you manage a cast iron pan on a ceramic stove top? Mine are too heavy & uneven for the ceramic top. Just bought a 5 quart All Clad sauté pan & 3 quart saucepan. (Trying to find info on making pancakes in the sauté pan.) Thanks for your video!

I came here because my MIL got us a really nice saute pan for Christmas and i wanted to tell her thank you, but i started to call it “a big a$$ frying pan” 🤣. Thank you for explaining the correct terminology. We dont cook a lot of fancy things but it is great for browning ground beef and making 1 pan family meals since frying pans are so shallow. Do you replace your frying pans if the teflon starts coming off? We grew up without a lot of money so we used them till the handles fell off. Dont know if it is really that big of a deal if you can still cook on it

Its can be unhealthy. Even when they are new you shouldnt heat them up too strongly, they are for Food which is more delicate and if the coating comes off you should discard them. Better use stainless steel, ceramic coated pans or enamel Coated pans. There are several articles about the advantages, drawbacks of them all. Good luck :)

Thanks Jane. Yes, Amy does use them. But a firm believer in the blue sponges and BKF after each use.
@AmyLearnsToCook
@AmyLearnsToCook 5 лет назад
Yep. I use these almost daily if not 4 times a week. The key to keeping your stainless shiny and new looking is Bar Keepers Friend and one of those blue Scotch scruby sponges.

So it sounds like the fry pan is more likely to substitute for a wok over a saute pan. Just that fry pans are small to use as a wok.
