Thanks for the review on this. Good choice of optics. I have this in. 28 Nosler. Good value. Your intro music sounds like the Magnum PI theme music. Love it all.

A Leopold's 2-7 scope is on my son's all weather Ruger American rifle in stainless steel and 7mm-08. A Bell and Carson custom stock replaced the stock it came with. My son picked out the finish he liked. An aluminum trigger guard comes with the new rifle stock. He loves it!

280 Ackley Improved is the cartridge I believe is the best all around rifle caliber in my personal opinion. With proper bullet construction even elephant can be hunted and dropped. Bullet integrity is paramount of importance when straight penetration through the skull to the brain is needed. Up to 3 feet of bone on a front brain shot.

Ayton, I did had swivel stud issues with mine. It fell off while while shooting on the very first 5th shot! I couldn't believe that for the price the rifle was falling apart! What I did, I took the action and barrel off the stock and put a little longer stud and secured with a nut from the inside and put some glue/epoxy inside. 100 times better than the Savage Factory!

I would invest in an aftermarket muzzlebrake. Less recoil impulse leads to better shooting accuracy. And the muzzlebrake adds a little length so more powder can be burned there.
@ez7977
@ez7977 Год назад
No real need for a brake in a 280ai. And the brake allows the venting of gasses, ie burning volume. Therefore the muzzel does not equate to any benefit of length as a longer barrel would.

This is a 280 AI, which has a 22" barrel - not 24". Spec sheet from Savage lists this caliber as 5.85lbs. Even if this had a 24" barrel, it would still weigh more than the specs listed for any of the 24" barrel calibers.

@@geargoggles4610 having perused Savage's website I'm noticing it is not even up to date or accurate. This would not give a person confidence in their product line. @ez7977
@ez7977 Год назад
28 nosler.. hard to find, although because nobody shoots it you can find a box on a shelf every other month. $80-100 per box. Honestly if you are shooting a 28 Nosler you better be reloading!! Besides the cost, you wont be able to rake advantage of the power or accuracy unless you do

@@mrguiltyfool - depends!! Mainstream, 30-06, .308, .270, etc. ive seen full shelves again. But commercially produced ammo will only get you 1moa, or 1” groups at best. Plus you will have to try all kinds of ammo to see what your gun likes. And…. 1moa for boxed ammo is top shelf! Huge cost to get into handloading, lots of time, lots of tedious work, but huge accuracy benefits. All depends on what you are doing! If hunting deer at 100yrds is about the most you do with the gun, but the ammo at a store! 28 nosler is expensive because anything that says nosler on the box commands 2x the money!!!

Way smoother than factory, but still not even smooth, let alone buttery smooth!!

@ez7977 Год назад
@@bannedfromisrael - i would recommend the 110. Make sure it is a model that has the accutrigger. Some nice models include; storm, classic, ultralight, high country, and im sure several others. Those are just the ones i have handeled. I have an ultralight. I handload and have worked loads to produce 0.25” groups at 100 yds.. easily keep 0.5” groups at 100. I would recommend going to a gun store and handeling several models and working the actions. The storm with the full stainless action and bolt is very smooth. Although the savage is not typically known for smooth actions! But they shoot crazy accurate for the money. You can find a 5-600 gun, but i promise you if you can save the extra 3-400 you are getting a way better gun and you will be way happier down the road!

@ez7977 Год назад
I bought one of these in 280ai and a browning hells canyon in 7mag last year. The savage beats the browning all day everyday in accuracy, weight, easy to work on. Easy to handload for. Just a better rifle all around. The stock has alot to desire, the trigger is better than the browning, and the balance of the rifle is wayyy better! If you had a gritty trigger you need to clean and degrease the trigger assembly and lightly oil…. It is actually very smooth. Plus lighten up the trigger and its amazing! The action is a 110. Nothing special. Best quality of this gun, its a 0.25 moa gun if properly handloaded. Browning is only a little under 1 moa. Believe me or not, i have taken mine to benchrest competitions and held my own with the field!!
@carfvallrightsreservedwith6649
I work my bolts over with an Arkansas hard stone and lightweight oil. Half hour later I can rock the gun back & forth and the bolt will travel (full race way) on its own. I also swap out bolt handle to a tactical, install a bolt lift kit, and extractor/ejector upgrades. Total cost $100.
