Back in Spring Grove, Illinois for Savage Race! It's a flat and fast course, so any slip-ups or slow-downs are amplified because you can be chased down quickly. I came in with a little less confidence on obstacles, but having done so many Savage Races, once I hit Anchors Aweigh, it felt like home and I felt much better about the race. Although Sawtooth was really wet for me and I was (too) conservative on it (you can hear how wet it is on my way down), and one of the mops on Battering Bird was loose and slid backwards (pardon my language), I still felt good going into the final rig. Back in the BattleFrog days, when I would see a crowd at the rig, I would always lose confidence and think, why would I be able to do it when these guys are stuck? Luckily, I didn't pay any attention to the people at the rig as I approached, and was able to pass a lot of people on it. I ended up finishing 8th overall and 7th male! It was a cool feeling seeing yesterday's champ, Ken Corigliano, as I was coming across the finish getting so excited that I came in when I did. That would have been the highlight of my day if it didn't get even better later when my wife Brittney crushed the rig herself on the first try and place THIRD OVERALL FEMALE! I am so proud of her and so happy I was able to cheer her loudly to the finish.

My wife & I ran the 10:45 am open there as well. It was her first ever OCR of any type. She had some mishaps as we all do in the beginning but she had a blast and is hooked now. I think she'll be running all of the Spartan Races, Savage Races & Tough Mudders I do from now on. Great footage as usual, man. Well done!

That's awesome! My wife and I ran the 10:25 am wave. That was a lot of fun. We are now hooked too! lol. We just registered for Tough Mudders in Rockford in a few weeks.

That’s great! Having a partner in crime who is also an ocr addict is the best lol

I ran the 930 heat. I was even looking for you to tell you I love your content but we didn't cross paths. Great day, hot! That last rig was murder. Congrats to your wife's strong finish!

I wish all PRO RACERS old timers or newbies were able to run at the same time so everyone would at least have the chance at an obstacle with little or no wait or little or no wet mud. The participants paid the same price anyways. The waiting times add up pretty fast. Just saying. It was fun though.

What obstacles were backed up?

I was saying if you ran at 8:10 and 8:15, from what I have witnessed, saw tooth, savage rig, colossus wheel world, yank my chain. Not sure about the ones I didn't go to. Not sure how they figured out the top 5 % of the runners. Was it depending on who filled up the survey sooner or was it based on the accomplishments you put on the survey? (What if it was your first time?) Or was it based on your years and years of OCR, so you're considered a PRO so you get to run first.

@@pinay0527 I see what you’re saying, thanks for the explanation. I believe the placement is based on your survey answers. I know with Covid they’ve had to place limits on wave sizes and I believe the first wave is based on the survey answers. I know that since I ran a faster 5k and had better placement in the pro wave recently, I’ve been able to get into the 8am wave. Before that, there were a couple races where I ran the 8:10 and 8:15 waves and can’t remember there ever being a wait time. At least not one that stands out in my mind. I have seen where there are several people at the obstacle, like the rig, but not every lane has an active runner on it, so I’m able to jump in. Or if it looks like the lanes are full, usually there’s a person retrying that isn’t quite ready to go, so I’ll ask if I can go since they are not going at the moment. That is a great point about people coming in that haven’t raced before. I’m not sure how that would work.
