GM Lee, you are a lifesaver! I'm switching from D&D 5e to SWADE for the next campaign I'm running as the DM. Except for one player, no one has ever played SW, so I'll send your videos to them to help them get a feel of the system before our session Zero! I'm excited for the rules of combat video, as well as a possible Powers and Magic one. Keep it up sir, love from Brazil!!
Wow! Thanks!! Combat video is in progress as we speak, I hope to have that up Sunday. Good luck with the transfer. I currently run a Pulp campaign with SWADE but plan to switch my 5E campaign over as well in the next couple of months.
Just purchased for Foundry VTT so let’s take a look at that. Also, check out the soon to be released part two of my Chase Rules video for some FC content.
This was an eloquently written script. GM Lee, you did an excellent job with demonstrating how Jack and his character animated beyond the page, creating a massively engaging character and script to do so. I can't wait to see Jack continue on his quests for honor!
One note regarding Hindrances - you can take twelve Hindrances if you want; the limit is only on points to spend during character creation. More hindrances can help flesh out the character more, and can also give you more opportunities to earn Bennies during play.
GM Lee: "Next is Race, and that's a pretty easy decision since this is a traditional 1930's pulp campaign." Me: "Oh, well, yeah that IS an easy choice then. Obviously you want to be wh-" GM Lee: "Jack is a Human." Me: "-uman! Human! I was going to say 'Human'!"
Excellent, clear explanation! Some things I'd like to see in future videos: The Last Parsec (perhaps including conversion from SWEX to SWADE) Powers Chases
Great video! What I find the most difficult with the character creation is the sheer amount of edges and hindrances, and some are very similar to each other. If I have a character in mind, and start reading from the start, I might pick something that is kind of right, and actually miss a better edge that's further back. When creating your first character there is a lot of reading involved when you come to that part. I imagine I will be getting quicker as I slowly remember what edges and hindrances there are, hehe.
I agree - my first ever character I’d write completely different now. But that’s the fun part of the number of Edges and Hindrances is your ability to to make a character that’s unique and exactly what you want. And hey, get that better Edge with your next Advance!
One thing my group does is, your character is never really locked in. If you start with a character and after the session you can make alterations up to and including starting over. Once you've made a character you enjoy we allow modifications between sessions so if you took an edge you don't quite like you're allowed to change it. This comes with the caviat that you need GM approval and you can't just keep showing up with completely different characters every session.
A really great video, even though I don't use Foundry. Since there are already a lot of videos on well-known settings, it would be nice to present less well-known - but no less good - settings. I'm thinking of Monster Hunters' Club for example - or The After...
Great suggestion. I started these videos because when I wanted to learn SWADE there weren’t enough videos… now I’m making the ones I’d want to see. I’ll certainly try and give some love to less exposed settings in future videos.
For the additional character creation option, if you want to stay with a Pinnacle product try Flash Gordon. For a non Pinnacle product you can try creating a character in the Stingers and Spores setting.
Great video! My group is considering switching from Shadowrun to Savage Worlds for our Cyberpunk game that we run in Foundry, and your videos are super helpful.
@@GameMasterLee We keep it mostly plain but with a few enhancers like Quick Insert, Dungeon Draw, Wall Enhancement, and PopOut, as well as a couple SWADE-specific ones like Ultimate Condition Changer and the Core Rules and Sprawlrunners content modules.
If I understand correctly, you can spend four Hindrance points in starting funds, and each adds 200%. So the first point triples starting funds, and each additional adds the same amount.
No, per the rules on page 9, for 1 point you can gain starting funds equal to twice the starting amount. So $500 becomes $1,000. If you were to do this multiple times, you’d still only be adding to the starting funds, not the new total created by previously spent Hindrance points.
@@GameMasterLee This is tricky wording. It says "you gain ADDITIONAL starting funds equal to twice your setting's starting amount". I would interpret that as each point adds 2xStarting. So if starting is 500$, each Hindrance Point would add 1000$. So spending 1 point would make your starting total 1500$, 2 points 2500$, and so forth.
@@GameMasterLeeMostly about weapons, armor, and items in general, but also occupations and cyberware. My GM recommended that I play as one of the archetypes the book has, but I decided to create my own.
Am I correct that Jack would get a free edge because he is human? You swapped two edges for attributes but didn't pick the 3rd edge. Nevermind. At the end I saw the woodsman edge
