Savage x shift point. To shift go 4 turns out from bottom or start halfway.

a lot of people are having issues with the savage shift point so I made this to help everyone understands how to get a good start point. The most commonly used point to shift is four turns out from the bottom but not all springs are the same so half way is a good start if four turns out does not work.
This works for me and I hope it helps you. Enjoy your rc!

My end result was to bottom out the adjustment screw and back it off 4 turns. Had me shifting nice!

Bottom it out and back it off 4 full turns. You will shift but you will need to make 1/4 turns from that point to find your preferred shifting point. Your welcome....it took me five tanks to shift when I started and wanted to keep others from this frustration..

@@rcbrooks3543 I turned my screw all the way in from removing the screw completely and I only got 4 and half full turns. You get 6 turns from when the spring starts to gain tension. I don’t get it 😂

@@bradnewcombe7419 make sure your spring and ball are in place. The spring could be over compressed or maybe it's shorter than mine. Regardless if you bottom out and can only back off 4 and 1/2 turn I would try starting. At 2 turns out from bottom.

I'm not sure is my gearbox stuck on 1st or 2nd gear because it has good bunch (will wheelie) but it seems to bee pretty fast too. But I don't hear any gear changing

Great video! I have a new savage and it's adjustment screw is stuck (broke 1 wrench when I tried to open it and last the screw). I didn't get it open it feels like it is on bottom with some loctite on it. Will it helps if I will open the gearbox or why it is stuck like that? Then it has some terrible 2,0mm allen screws on it so this is why I can't open an gearbox cover. Nothing wrench won't fit on some 2,0mm screws have you had the same problem?
@rcbrooks3543
@rcbrooks3543 Год назад
I had the same problem with those weak allen screws getting stripped so I ordered the MIP Allen bits and now it's easy to get the screws out. Then I replaced the screws with hardened steel screws. You should just replace the clutch all together. Start fresh and get MIP bits. You will never want to use another allen and removing the old clutch will help you understand the two speed clutch system fully. Record your turns like I did so you never forget your start point for fine-tuning.

So I was able to get HRP to sell me Savage X 4.6 that was brand new, but had been sitting in a warehouse for maybe 3 or 4 years with all the nonsense that was happening with HPI for years. It seems to be stuck in the high gear because like you state there isn’t that much torque. I took the rubber gasket off to see the two speed & I can rotate it to see where the driver goes in, but it looks a little askew to be able to get a driver in there. Am I using a 1 or 1.5 to get to it? And once I get to it I believe I’m going counter clockwise to make it engage sooner. Is that correct also? Please advise. Thank you for sharing this.
@rcbrooks3543
@rcbrooks3543 Год назад
So you are not correct. Counterclockwise takes tension off the spring and therefore you need less rotation/rpm to get the clutch to pop out and contact the second gear. As for the Allen wrench it's a 2mm for the savage version 1.
@rcbrooks3543
@rcbrooks3543 Год назад
So if you are stuck in 2nd gear then you need to go clockwise because that means you are already too backed out and when you hit the gas that clutch is so loose it swings open to fast and when the 2nd gear arm comes around it's connecting before you build up a high rpm and killing your bottom end power.
@rcbrooks3543
@rcbrooks3543 Год назад
So to keep it simple Counterclockwise is a faster shift to 2nd. Clock-wise is a slower shift to 2nd. I would go clockwise until it bottoms out. Then back it off 4 full turns. Run the truck and if it shifts you can adjust it in 1/4 turn increments from there.

Thank you very much for all this advise. I really appreciate your expertise. Happy Holidays!
@rcbrooks3543
@rcbrooks3543 Год назад
It can be confusing so I want to make sure you get it. This is how it works. When you are not moving the truck is in first. It alway starts in first. The oneway bearing is attached to 1st gear and has the shaft going threw it. After the oneway bearing you have the clutch that's attached to the shaft with a pin holding it in place. Then you have 2nd gear that's on free spinning bearings and has the shaft going threw it also. The 2nd gear has two notchs on the inside that overlaps the clutch. As the shaft turns the one way keeps 1st gear putting power to the shaft. Then as rotation or rpm builds the clutch arm starts to pop out and when it's fully out the 2nd gear that overlaps the clutch bumps the arm that's coming out of the clutch. The notch cut on the inside lip of 2nd gear is now in contact with the clutch and 2nd it takes over. This is how it shifts gears.

What is the other screw used for? Mine as soon as it shifts to second it bogs hard and down shifts to first in high rpms
@rcbrooks3543
@rcbrooks3543 8 месяцев назад
The other screw is a grub locking screw to lock the clutch onto the shaft.

Your problem sounds strange. Lack of speed would make it go to downshift. So that sounds like the result of that bog affect. Is your HSN too rich?
