In this tour, Dr. Robin B. Williams takes viewers on a detailed analysis of Savannah's City Hall, arguably the city's most iconic building and a fascinating combination of modern technology and traditional classical style.
Guest appearances by Luciana Spracher, Director, City of Savannah Municipal Archives, and Nick Palumbo, District 4 Alderman, City of Savannah.
Correction based on feedback from Luciana Spracher:
Through a 1986 anonymous donation of $200,000, City Hall’s dome was gilded with 24-karat gold leaf from Germany. The gold dome was unveiled in April 1987. In 2008, the dome was re-gilded as part of an exterior restoration project, and is now glittering with 24-karat Italian gold. Savannah’s City Hall has never featured Dahlonega, Georgia gold.

Wonderful tour and information about Savannah's beautiful City Hall. I'm thrilled they didn't move city hall. A solution to the need for more city hall space would be to rip down the hideous Hyatt Regency and build a city hall annex that is scaled back with the rest of the line of facade on River Street . A building that blinds in more architecturally. I feel a little sick every time I see how the Hyatt destroyed all that area. Watch the original Cape Fear from 1962. You'll see splendid shots of the City Hall and the original structure that once set just west of it. Thanks again.

One of the seven wonders of the Ancient world had that Quadgriga as I recall. Was it the mausoleum of Halicarnassus?

Yes! It became popular in the early 19th century, appearing on the top of the Arc du Carousel in Paris and the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. It was an unusual kind of sculpture to propose for a Beaux-Arts Classical building, let alone four of them!

The oldest bell's in Georgia are actually at Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Ebenezer Georgia. They are from around the 1760's.
