@safaria Savatage doesnt get the credit the deserve i blame that on Trans-Siberian Orchestra cause some people forget that without Savatage there would be no TSO
Jon Oliva, Piano... Criss Oliva, Guitar... A match that's undeniable. Criss just isn't given his due in this day and age of Guitarists, he was truly a master... R.I.P.
Jon Oliva is without a doubt one of the most gifted rock lyricists and composers ever... and so freaking underrated. You have to listen to STREETS, a true rock/metal opera.
I heard the last 3 songs make up a "trilogy", but I don't see it. Mentally Yours and Thorazine Shuffle, totally go together, but putting Summer Rain in between? What a sore thumb placement. I may piss off a bunch of the purists out there (and I don't care, lol), but I move Summer's Rain to another slot in the track list (as I rearrange all songs on an album anyway as per my preference - except concept albums, like Streets). To anyone that gives a damn (lol), my GB tracklist looks like this : - OF RAGE & WAR - THE UNHOLY - SHE'S IN LOVE - THE HOUNDS - SUMMER RAIN - SILK & STEEL - THIS IS WHERE YOU SHOULD BE - TEMPTATION REVELATION - GUTTER BALLET - WHEN THE CROWDS ARE GONE - MENTALLY YOURS - THORAZINE SHUFFLE - GATES OF HELL [Lost Demo] - THORAZINE SHUFFLE [Lost Demo] - LARRY ELBOWS [Lost Demo] And if I combine the HOTMK album, it alters a bit as I intersperse the HOTMK tracks : - PRELUDE TO MADNESS - THE HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING - THE HOUNDS - THE LAST DAWN - SUMMER RAIN - SILK & STEEL - THIS IS WHERE YOU SHOULD BE - TEMPTATION REVELATION - GUTTER BALLET - WHEN THE CROWDS ARE GONE - MENTALLY YOURS - THORAZINE SHUFFLE - BEFORE I HANG - METALHEAD - SHE'S IN LOVE - LEGIONS OF THE NIGHT - LIVING ON THE EDGE OF TIME - THE UNHOLY - BEYOND THE DOORS OF THE DARK - THE PRICE YOU PAY - OF RAGE & WAR - DEVASTATION - TARGET - 24 HOURS AGO - WHITE WITCH - STRANGE WINGS - STRANGER IN THE DARK - GATES OF HELL [Lost Demo] - THORAZINE SHUFFLE [Lost Demo] - LARRY ELBOWS [Lost Demo]
Back in 91 or 92 my older brother got Gutter Ballet cause it was recommended by Columbia House (some of you may not know what that is). He loved it and started buying Savatage albums and getting other family members to listen to them. I wasn’t allowed to even listen to rock music of any kind growing up, so this was quite a treat. 1998 they were my first concert during the Wake of Magellan tour and it was unreal. They not only are my favorite band but got me into rock/metal and so many sub genres.
yeah way TOO sad I remember hearing that when it first happened I was SO pissed. Poor Criss never got any reignition for his playing. Never made single guitar magazine cover.
This solo has a connection to the universe like no other. Out of every solo Criss Oliva recorded, THIS one will connect you to a higher power and show you visions like no other. Criss Oliva truly had a gift like no other man since Mozart. Brilliant would be such an understatement. Bravo 👏 R.I.P. CRISS OLIVA. THANK YOU FOR TAPPING INTO THE UNKNOWN.
The beauty of this channel is discovering a new band because you showed me why I should like it. I don't find that with others. Thanks for showing Savatage to me guys!
Love you two! I did not realize until just now I hadn't subscribed. I was too busy playing my part in the Gutter Ballet of life. I've corrected that error now. Now that said - I love that you guys did #Savatage (sure, this is 4 years old!) - but Savatage is my favorite band, still to this day, despite that they're "broken up" (though now working on a new album... a final one, supposedly, entitled "Curtain Call" as the rough name). Anyway - I love how you guys give Savatage a listen - because they ARE the MOST underrated metal band, bar none. Criss Oliva's guitar work in all of the albums (after Hall of the Mountain King, Chris Caffery joined as a secondary guitarist) - but Criss' sound - he conveys so much emotion in his playing... And sadly, some damn Drunk Driver with _SEVEN_ DUIs under his belt - slammed into Criss' car while he and his wife were in it - killing Criss instantly. (His wife would die years later; the death never disclosed as far as I know). And I know you guys live in Florida, but this is where this happened. And you know how long that drunk driver served? 3 years. 3 years of his time in prison, and we're a life time without Criss. (This had impact on Jon, his brother, who is the vocalist). There's so many freaking ridiculously good songs that they've done. Prior to Criss' death, Jon did step down from vocals and Zak Stevens took over - if you've not reviewed "Edge of Thorns" - you will hear another side of Savatage. #Savatage #MadnessReigns
Nice reference to 'Alice's restaurant ' btw. And as you may or may not know, savatage is basically the heart of the trans Siberian orchestra...be amazed.
Thankful to hear you reacting to more Savatage. The more you explore them , the more you will appreciate them. If you have not researched the band I would suggest doing so. So much to their history that you could both relate to and appreciate in addition to some powerful lyrics and amazing music... The tragic passing of the uber talented Chris Oliva, the subsequent fall (and eventual rise) of his brother John Oliva, and the story of how a super talented and criminally underappreciated band named Savatage nearly faded away before submitting one of their previously released songs "Christmas Eve In Sareavo" to the record labels under a new band name... the Transiberian Orchestra :)
I know Savatage ^^ I'm so happy to see people who really love music discovering this amazing band. Your reaction is so pure, so complete, sincere... You're a living mirror of what I feel when I listen to Savatage. Thank you for that !
Finally Savatage....great stuff so underrated and a band you can't just listen to once ,so many layers to them...keep it up loving the reaction...METAL IN THE BLOOD!
No need to unsubscribe, simply adjust the settings for notifications to occasional or never. But why would you wanna do that when every notification from this channel yields awesome music👍🏼
Woo my Aunt is over from Vancouver! She emigrated to Canada back in the early 70's. She is Welsh originally. I have visited Canada and it's the ONLY other place that feels like Wales. Ok, maybe Seattle on the US side. Love both. Stay strong, stay together, and stay in the light. X
Hey guys Thanks for this amazing reaction Thought I could hook you up with some golden Savatage tracks: Believe When the crowds are gone The unholy Ghost in the ruins The storm
Just discovered you guys a couple of weeks ago, and I absolutely dig the vibe! Y’all seem to be the perfect couple. That being said, Savatage is my fav of all time. So thank you, and keep up the great work! Cheers from KY!
#Savatage Handful of Rain Longview WA One of the most awesome songs ever. One of those songs you need to read the words and TRY to find what the song means TO YOU. Brilliantly Executed
Wow i love this guys. So happy to see someone doing Sava-reactions.Sorry to load you up with another Savatage song...but even if you don't do a reaction listen to the song Tonight he Grins again. This has been my favorite band since 1989. Everything thing they do is amazing. They are now called Trans Siberian Orchestra.....sadly. I want my Savatage back.
Saw them open up for Frehelys comet back in 86-87? A small venue on Long Island. Maybe 300 people. They were incredible. Next thing you know, they’re opening for megadeth and Dio and I saw them at the coliseum on New Year’s Eve 87 into 88. So under appreciated
Now that you've got the Savatage bug, check out either Of Rage and War from the Gutter Ballet album, or my preference POWER OF THE NIGHT!! You'll totally dig it, daddy-o.
Savatage was awesome. Im new to your channel (I can watch the Silent Lucidity video over and over again) so if you havent done "When The Crowds Are Gone " by Savatage, please do it. Probably one of their best songs.
I´ve been at a Savatage Concert in 1998, a Rock festival, they closed their performance playing Gutter Ballet...totally awesome, Jon Oliva is amazing. There´s a video from this day here around youtube Savatage Monsters of Rock 1998 Brazil
Savatage had a three-album run (Hall of the Mountain King, Gutter Ballet, Streets: A Rock Opera) where they were simply magnificent. This is so good. Now for an ask: #YngwieMalmsteen - Icarus' Dream Suite: Op. 4 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T1Va1F1dQWo.html
Always enjoy your videos, had no clue you guys were Canadian...you should try some Triumph...I recommend The City(all 3 suites)...and since you are on a Florida binge try Crimson Glory's Painted Skys, or Midnight and Jon Olivas duet doing the same...2 metal legends from your neck of the woods.
Glad you liked this.. this is an album I completely wore out when it came out. You should look into White Lion as well. so many great tracks.. Radar love, Little fighter, When the children cry, Love don't come easy, Cry for freedom .....
I saw them in Wacken 2016 and at that point I had only heard the Hall of the mountain king and Dead winter dead albums and they opened with this. Fell in love immediately and always get shills when I hear that opening.
Oh and I've Had The Absolute Pleasure Of Seeing The OG Savatage Perform Live going all the way back to 87?! Also as well, I've seen and talked and hung out w/ Jon Oliva at Progpower USA here in Atlanta, Ga!! Not only phenomenally criminally underated musician, he's a super cool and super nice and very funny dude to hang out with too!! I also got to see Jon Perform That Night with His Solo Band, (Pain) as well!!
I"m half prosciutto. :P I'm so glad you guys got to this song. I love bands that use words so uniquely and such imagery in their songs. I listed three songs already that tie in, don't want to bug by listing again. I think you'd like them. If you do it, you should listen to them all in one sitting so you can see how they tied them together.
'Bout time...haha. Now I got one for you that you can listen to in private or experience in a video but, after watching you two all this time and the special love you have for each other, I'd like to dedicate to you: #Firehouse When I Look Into Your Eyes
AND, when Savatage did "Believe" on Streets, they reprised the bridge from "When the Crowds Are Gone" from Gutter Ballet! For even more excellence, check out Edge of Thorns, particularly "All That I Bleed", "Follow Me", and "Conversation Piece".
I've been looking forward to this one and hoping you guys were going to love it as much as I always have. Gutter Ballet was my first introduction to Savatage and it's always held a special place in my heart. Thank you both for keeping up all these great reactions! Now a couple of other suggestions for you: #Metallica - Of Wolf and Man; #Wolfmother - Joker and the Thief
Okay Y'all, and Thank You So Very Much for Doing Savatage too as well!! I have been A Huge Big-Time Old Skool Die-Hard Savatage Fan, (going all the way back to 84-85 when I first heard (The Dungeons Are Calling) EP, and later, just very shortly after that bought Savatage's Major Label Atlantic Debut (The Amazing Beyond Epic- (Power Of The Night)!! So, I must recommend Power Of The Night as well, as well as Also A Savatage Magnum Opus (The Hall Of The Mountain King) as well!! Just trust True SavaFans Your Journey Has Just Begun!! You're Both In One Helluva Enjoyable Ride!!
I've been waiting for someone to finally do Gutter Ballet! "When The Crowds Are Gone" should definitely be your next Savatage tune! As others have mentioned - Trans Siberian Orchestra sort of arose from the ashes of Savatage - many musical similarities between the two bands, though TSO is more of a theatrical production. There is SO MUCH for you to discover - and I'd like to get you on board with some King's X or Galactic Cowboys - try "In The New Age" by King's X, or "I'm Not Amused" by Galactic Cowboys. Long time lurker - you earned a sub with this Savatage reax!
I remember holding the very drunk singer up, keeping him standing while he very emotionally made a phone call from a pay phone at a club to his mom, making up with her over something ? Back in the late 80’s, early 90’s
