Moved to Vegas in early '88 and the FM radio 104.5 the Krusher (robot voice) played all the leading edge stuff. Turned me on to Savatage, Barren Cross, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, a bunch of badass rock and roll Strange Ways was on there, and I believe Hall of the Mountain King. Truly awesome band(s) at a cool time when you slapped in a cassette tape and cranked it up. The list of cool bands is immense.
It did suck. They played bon jovi, poison, aerosmith during Headbangers Ball. Same shit they played during regular programmin. There would be ONE actual metal video at the end of the 2 hour show, that was all.
A lot of people will give me a hard time about it but I think Chris Olivia was just as good guitarist as Dimebag Darrell unfortunately Chris never got the recognition he deserved very underrated him and his brother John
@slayer jeff i couldnt agree with you more. criss oliva inspired thousands of guitar players. i know, i am one of them.i read somewhere that dimebag used to know all the savatage riffs.ill bet if dime were still alive, he would be giving the props to criss. clint lowrey from sevendust calls him a huge influence as well. criss olivas playing still gives me a chill up my spine. those riffs were sooooo evil .
Imo they were equals. Very similar and totally different at the same time. But for me dime's tone, especially rhythm tone is unmatched. Criss' solo tone is unmatched as well. You just cant go wrong with them. IMO. Enjoy music!
Criss was technically better than Darrell but they were friends. They even tried plucking Criss for Guitar #2 on Power Metal, at the suggestion of Marc Ferarri (the guy they ended up using). A lot of bands were trying to talk him away from Savatage but he wouldn't leave the band.
@@neilpatrickhairlessis this story real? I always wondered if they knew each other, i hope they did , but never heard dime talkin about him tho.. imagine if they toured together during 88-90! Both bands picking up, that would be amazing! And what about that ferrari guy? Never heard of that
Garth McNamee , Garth McNamee was the man that killed criss Oliva in 1993 . Garth was driving drunk , crossed the center line hitting criss and his wife going to a concert in Tampa killing criss Oliva. crisses wife later died in 2005 . she had a very difficult time with crisses passing and most say she was never fully right after the drunk driving incident.
These GUYS ARE BADASS!! VERY DIFFERENT FROM ANYTHING ELSE AT THE TIME!!!! Rick got lucky with a DREAM JOB!!! HANGING AROUND WITH BANDS AND CLUBS LIVING OFF THE SKIRTS OF ROCK ARTISTS OF THE BEST TIME IN MUSIC!!!!! GOT FAME AND A CHECK ON TOP!!!! UNBELIEVABLE???? DON'T GET BETTER THAN THAT PEOPLE?????
Chris oliva was a true gentleman, asking to christoffer caffery if he want to open the tracks already recorded of gutter ballet and put his flavor on it..and christoffer reply no man, thanks for asking but I want to go on tour with this album and move forward with the band, but thanks for that.
Normally I like Rikki, but to NOT do his homework and make that mistake on-air about who he's interviewing... insult to the guests / fans & shows he slacked at his gig!
The idea of a playboy bunny liking something as cool as savatage these days is laughable. She would typically be like a feminist taylor swift fan or something.
