Unfortunately, metal isn't as widely accepted in the US as it is in Europe. It remains largely an underground phenomenon here whereas a Greek crowd (or a crowd almost anywhere in Europe, really) goes nuts for great metal like this.
Just read the liner notes of the Poets & Madmen vinyl reissue and the author is urging people to go watch this clip. I was at the gig, 17 years old at the time. 21 years later and it still gives me chills watching this.
Savatage, my favorite band of all times. I love Metallica, Nevermore, Rage, King Diamond... but Savatage is like inborn musicality . Jon Oliva is generous & Cris Oliva so much regretted. all of the musicians are totally amazing.
This video brings back memories... What a performance... The show was opened by blaze bayley. What a lovely night! to the friends with whom we were there.. Cheers guys, I love you!
Poets and Madmen was such an amazing album, I couldn't imagine how many times I would have listened to it. I still get the same reactions listening to it now all these years later. A true epic masterpiece. Will we ever see another Savatage record? Sure we have JOP, Global Warning was excellent, TSO of course are great and Caffery had the brilliant Faces, but we also need another Tage record. Wishful thinking I know, but maybe one day, just one day.
This song is awsome and I will admit Chriss CAFERY Does do a good job with Savatage I thin if Criss Oliva could talk to him today he would say I am proud of you, you a have a major spot to fill
Its about a photographer named Kevin Carter, he won the Pulitzer prize in photography in 1994 for a picture taken in the Sudan of a small starving girl who was trying to get to a feeding station. Commited suicide months after winning the award.
This was a great line up an performance. Damond JInya was givin it 110 percent. He has alway's fed off a good crowd an it doesnt get any better than GREECE. Look at Them. WTF is wrong with the U. S. No one can afford to get into the right head space on alcohol( 8 Buck'sa beer)an you can't smoke in venue's for one!!!!!
@sinbysin666 that "idiot" is Damond Jiniya, their singer for their last tour. The guy kicked major ass, and it's a crime that we didn't get a studio album with him.
alex, it's hard to suggest the best album, because they all have great moments on them. my personal favorites are hall of the mountain king, gutter ballet, edge of thorns, sirens, and dead winter dead. but pretty much any tage album you get is gonna have songs on it that you will like. ps- they all sound better REALLY LOUD!!
Best = Hall of the Mountain King (no doubt). Other greats include, Poets and Madmen, and Fight for the Rock. All of the albums are unique and you can't expect the same thing on each album. I own all there albums, and they all have good stuff on them. They are the most underrated band ever I think... Savatage is fucking awesome!!!
yes they are!! also, if you haven't already checked 'em out, jon oliva's pain maniacal renderings and chris caffery house of insanity are good too. renderings has some stuff on it written by criss oliva that hasn't been used before. good stuff.
@Canadiack maybe, maybe not, but still Oliva says he was working on a new album he started to work on it in 2004 tho, well it toook many for Tso to release Night Castle so we can hope for at least an album :)
The Idea of this Song.. how hard to believe the second life "Death" and how it will be.. this part of song makes me crazy :( [still!!!! I hold you there with your endless stare!]... Time is fading night is calling I am on my WAAAY!
Wikipedia article for Savatage says: In late 2012, Jon Oliva revealed that the band is working on a new album entitled "The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse" which will be out in 2013 Any idea if it's true?
Just in case you're interested there is new song with both jon oliva and zak stevens with a band from syria on the following link: Enjoy watch?v=HLbHih7KMwI
privalevil ... So try to sing yourself ... Do you think savatage could take a bad singer to the band? I don't think so! Damond is great, just different than Jon. And if you think that he could play in a goth band - wash your ears;)
