Hi Friends! In this Month's Pantry Chat, I'll share a grocery guide as well how how I'm confident I'll be saving 50% or more on ground meat every time I go to the grocery store! (and how you can too). Links are in the description box. Have a great week! xoxo Cassandra :)
Y’all, don’t give up on buying second hand! I followed in Cassandra’s footsteps and found a like-new kitchen aid mixer with the ceramic bowl and all the attachments on Facebook marketplace for $150!!🤯
Absolutely genius to keep space in your freezer for goto single, couple and family meals. So smart - I absolutely love your videos, I learn sooo much! Thank you! ❤
Great turkey deal! This is exactly the reason that I like to shop weekly even during a pantry challenge. You never know what kind of bargain you will find in the clearance areas unless you go in and look at them.
GIIRRRRRLLLLL!!!! I just found your channel and I'm obSESSED!! I don't know how I managed to not find you sooner!! It's a breath of fresh air to watch someone who thinks like I do about so much!! (I've binged a few videos already)
Hello friend! Haha! Love this and I'm so glad you took time to say hello! Other than my family, I do not have friends in my real life that share my enthusiasm (and serious) about meal prep, leveraging sales, and not being afraid to spend some time in the kitchen!
@@BecomingaFarmGirl when you broke out the break bleeder in one of your videos, I knew we were kindred spirits! 🤣. I have an old video about using a break bleeder to seal jars inside the canisters.
I discovered years ago I can thaw my birds in brown paper bags outside the fridge for up to 3 days. Since then I discovered brining them in my ice chest - way cool. I found that grinder a few yrs ago-never used it. I will learn from you! I never cared for ground turkey. But something tells me I'll like what you do. Tyty
Tip: freeze grinder and freeze all ready cut & cubed meat for 20-25 mins. The meat grinds separately in noodle like bits and the fat will not stick to grinder. Also, grind meat in small batches; take remaining meats out of freezer as you go. Great video! Great deal!
I have a kitchenaid grinder too. If you cut the meat into smaller pieces like 1" or less pieces or even strips then barely freeze them, it will work better and faster. I use mine a lot to make sausage especially italian sausage. We use it to make spaghetti and lasagna that is so much better than most restaurants.
Our meat grinder lives in the freezer, & it makes a big difference, especially if you're making sausage, which helps prevent the fat from melting during the grind.
I got one of those .49/lb turkeys too. I just roasted it, froze a bunch of bags of cooked, chopped turkey, and made broth. Tomorrow I'll make some soup. I'm going to have to look for a grinder.
Ground turkey in my area is like $6.99 per pound. Great deal....and not to mention all the broth you will get. You should invest in a foodsaver, game changer and food lasts way longer in the freezer. I just started sprouts in jars this past weekend (started soaking them Saturday ) and already sprouting and it's Monday.
Tucking pumpkin puree into morning smoothies (i bet it freezes well with the silicone trays) is a great way to get added vitamins and minerals, the flavor blends well, and it gives the smoothie more body. It's a go-to cheap, low-sugar ingredient in mine 🧡
I look for whole fresh chickens on clearance for 30% off. If I find one, as soon as I get home I put the whole thing in the pressure cooker, then cut it up. I find it much easier to cut up once cooked, and the process gives me a couple cups of very concentrated stock, plus a cup of schmaltz which I use to start any pan fry. The cut up chicken makes 6-8 meals for two of us.
My local grocery store is have a sale on pork butt, 0.88 cents a lbs., limite of 2. I can't remember the last time it went on sale that low in my area. I am going to can them as roasted pork in a spicy broth. I will be checking my Aldi.
I buy ALL my big ticket items on 12/26 every year! Waited 3 years to get a good deal on my Excalibur dehydrator, waited until January & found them $150 off, free shipping & I use Rakuten for everything so I get cash back.
I live in an apartment and get so many great tips and ideas from your videos. The monthly pantry chats are so helpful for identifying ways to save money. Thank you!
Hi 👋🏾 Laura! Honey there is so much you can do and learn even in a small space! I’m happy to pass along what’s been working for me and what I’m learning. We’re “micro-homesteaders”😉. Have a great day!
I just love your personality. I have troubles with MS, so it is very difficult to pay attention. I don't have trouble listening to you and staying focused, though. It really helps that you understand country folk. Side note, I love love love your kitchen! It's so cute!
Thank you for all your shopping tips and sharing practical ways of dealing with what we bring home. Such a help! And thank you for slowing down..it helped ☺️
No problem Reta! I love talking about grocery sales and so glad I have friends, like you, that don't mind chatting about it! Hope you have a great week!
You are aware that those canned goods aren't expired! They don't just miraculously go bad on that date, that is a freshness date which shows when the contents start to lose vitamins and nutrients. As long as the cans aren't dented, bulging or have any other damage they can be safely eaten 10 years later.
Hello sweet friend! Truly, my heart has been so full and appreciative after I had my first (non-family) subscriber :). I'm so glad to pass along tips and tricks that I've learned to use in my kitchen! Hope you're having a great week!
Thanks Cassandra...always love your videos! I will be heading to my Aldi tomorrow to see if we have this deal locally. Besides being a great bargain for us, this turkey would also be great for our dog, who eats real food.
Hi Pam! It's always good to see you. I could not believe this deal, and, even though I had canned several turkey's at the $1.09 price, I am so glad that I was able to put my thrifted grinder to use. And yes, our pups need to eat quality food too! Have a great week!
@@BecomingaFarmGirl wishing you a good week as well! Now that you have a grinder, you are only a stuffer away from making your own breakfast sausages and brats for the upcoming grilling season!
I just scored ham portions for 74 cents/#. I now have 2 hams in my freezer for $5+-7+ total. I can that a win. Haven't seen any deals in turkeys though😪. The hubs has been wanting a meat grinder forever
That’s a great deal! And the tips on the grinder were helpful. I got the same meat grinder attachment for Christmas this year, but haven’t had a chance to play with it yet. I’ll definitely have to keep an eye out for those sales!
Hi Becky! So good to see you. You are going to LOVE using the KA grinder; its truly so simple. I can't wait until I have herbs growing again so that I can add them in, along with cut onion and seasonings to really customize ground meat. Hope you're having a great week, friend!
This was an fun video. I recognize your expression of glee, to get such a great deal. I'm always looking for the same shopping glee. A couple years ago our Fred Meyer over bought ground beef in those 3lb tubes and was selling them for $3.00 each, $1.00 a pound!!! I sent my husband to get 160 pounds while I scrambled to find room. We ate a bunch of thawing veggies and misc., but girl, I was high on that dose of glee for months!
I would of bought the beef. That dressing on the sprout salad looked really good. I have those jar sealer tools and I thought you had to have a seal a meal thing so I bought one very expensive very. Can you explain more about this break bleeder and how to use it or direct me to a video it is on. Anyone, Thank you
Hi 👋🏾 Jean! I love my break bleeder, I’m going to link a video where I go into depth about how to use it. Click here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s_MpRlr06SY.html
What is the gadget you used on the chips? I’ve never seen one of those. I looked through the links and didn’t see it attached. I also love that grinder!! I have a huge one for deer processing, but that would be amazing for smaller projects like great buys on Turkey!
I need to go to Aldi more LOL... and I need to get a meat grinder... I also need to get that little doohickey device you use for vacuum sealing because one of my biggest issues is keeping stuff fresh long enough for us to eat it. My older kids are only here part-time so the baby and myself don't eat up the stuffs fast enough. AND I need to get into dehydrating and hopefully one day freeze drying! I need too many things 😆
Hi 👋🏾 Nadila! Haha, I hear ya! Take your time finding sales and every getting items second hand (I’m just getting a meat grinder after eyeing one for years). The break bleeder can be found on Amazon for 20-35 bucks and yes, it’s so worth it because most of the time it’s just my husband and I and it helps with portion control and keeping things fresh. You’ll love it. Hope you have a great week!
I live close to Alabama and I too got a turkey.49 I just got 1 but I got 2 an applewood spiral ham with the glaze for .69 we like ham better than turkey at Aldi
Now THAT’s how ya do it, Kayla. I had canned 2 birds right after Thanksgiving at the $1.09 price, which is why my jaw dropped when I saw this new sale. Have a great week my friend! 😀
@@BecomingaFarmGirlI also got 6 turckys for .98c a pound at my walmart before Thanksgiving and turnd it into canned turcky and gravy. All I have to do is thicken it and put over potatoes or biscuits
Hi Liz! I found them either at Home Goods or Walmart. I love that I'm able to wipe them down and they have handles to easily slide in and out of the freezer. It's the perfect way to pack more in your freezer.
Hello friend! Oh drats, I’m sorry to hear this. It’s been years since I’ve seen a sale that good. I suspect that other stores will also deeply discount their turkeys so you may get lucky somewhere else?! Have a great evening, my friend!
I just added it, Kathy. You’ll love it- but here it is too: www.amazon.com/dp/B09GK8BGRT/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_3JEB463XZK0F556W8B6G?linkCode=ml2&tag=becomingafarm-20
A brake bleeder?? Holy smokes! Back up and do a video on that! People don't realize that dried beans do not last forever if you keep them in a plastic bag. You need to put them under vacuum sealing otherwise they get so hard they are impossible to cook, even with a pressure cooker. PLEASE!
I have been watching your videos with my 14-year-old granddaughter . She said that watching you makes her smile. I wanted to share! Thank you for being you! Big hugs from both of us.
For my own selfish reasons, I need you to quit your, as you say "ordinary working girl job" and become a full-time YT content creator!!! I always look forward to your videos. You are professional, personable, relatable, and down to earth. Thanks for the video packed with ideas and information. Pam
Our store had turkeys for 48 cents a lb. I bought 5 over 3 shopping trips. I canned turkey breast from 1, combined the bones with chicken feet and skin with veggie bits them canned broth, baked the wings and legs for a dinner... 4 are in the freezer still 😆
I never put myself on a "no spend" budget for food because I shop the deals so I can stock up and restock my supplies. There is a cycle in our area of when certain types of meat go on sale and that lets me know how much I should be spending on those meats. If I find a price even lower than the typical sale price, I stock up and PRESERVE! I currently have 2 full sized turkeys in my freezer from the pre-Thanksgiving sales (sometimes Ibotta does a FREE turkey rebate too)! Thank you for the idea of breaking them down and preserving them differently to free up space in my freezer. I already have the Kitchenaide meat grinder because I use it with the seed strainer for my tomatoes and blackberries I grow in the summer. LOVE!
Thank you for saying that. I have been feeling "guilty" for buying food and sto King up on good deals during "no spends". I had a stroke 23 days ago. So glad I have a good stock as I can't take care of myself right now. I'm so disappointed I can't do canning for a while, no idea how long I'll be down.
Oh my sweet friend, my heart is heavy with this news. I’m praying for you, Debra! I too have tried “no buy” months but because I follow sale cycles it just doesn’t make financial sense to pass up a good deal. I’ve got a system down where I routinely go through inventory and I fully agree with Lynn. Allow yourself time to make a full recovery and don’t attempt to jump back into anything too soon. Keep me posted on your progress! >>>hugs
@@ladydebrawelland1538 prayers for your full recovery! I'm so glad you have a stockpile of food to help you through your trying time. That is what it is there for, and good for you for being a good steward of your resources.
I just love that you shared your excitement (over grinding turkey meat with your new attachment) with your dad in real time. ❤ And that you included that in this video. Thank you for all the great ideas you share in every video, Cassandra.
Hello 👋🏾 Shae! I couldn’t believe it! And I’m so glad to put my thrifted grinder to good use! Totally head to Aldi and see what you can find! Have a great week!
I stopped the video and ran to mine just now! LoL but to no avail…they are gone. The woman there said she thinks they have more in the back they are putting out tomorrow… while I’m at work 😞 I’m so glad any of the others watching maybe are able to get one! 🙂
OMG I'm glad this came back on my feed,,,I made the mistake of not clicking the 'All' button. I first saw your video about the Perfection Heaters...now I have found 2 for less than $50 each, and restored them...now here in Canada people are asking over $300 each!!! I also noticed the kerosene lamp in your kitchen...I also have 4 of them. I love your way of showing the prepper skills; people don't realize how much $$ they can save by doing things ourselves. I refuse to pay $15 for boneless/skinless chicken breasts when I can buy the whole chicken and make 5 meals out it :) Keep on with the excellent content that you share, you are truly a blessing to so many people in this world :)
Well, I have been missing out. Just found your channel and LOVE. Also working full-time and doing farm/homestead things in my spare time. Your food and grocery budget tips are fabulous! Now I am casually going to binge me way through your whole channel LOL
I bought 5 turkeys .55 cents a lb and canned them up and canned up turkey broth to I got 8 cases of turkey something so exited . I was now turkey is $30.00 n more wow
We do the same with large pork loins when they are on sale at Costco. Grind some, make a roast, some chips, etc. Bought a Boston butt in the hopes of trying making some sausage soon! Now you have prompted me to do this with a 🦃 Thanks! Love your enthusiasm too
Cassandra I have never seen you so excited speaking with your Dad about grinding turkey. Great find on the Butterballs. Yes I am still jealous of your "Mercedes" Kitchen Aid grinder attachment. Mine is 30 years old still works and looks new but it is the "Toyota" model. ha ha Tip: Your meat will grind better if it is really cold or partially frozen. Clean up is a snap if you grind some stale bread or frozen bread without the small grinding disc or use a larger disc. I applaud you for breaking down your turkey and using every morsel. Take care and have a great week. Enjoyed your video.
I just discovered your videos a few months back. I must say I just love your upbeat personality!!! Your a joy to watch and you have amazing ideas!!! Keep up the great work!!! Thanks ❤😊
Omg I did this at Christmas!!. Our sales here in Australia are no where near as good as yours. I bought 2 frozen and 3 fresh whole turkeys and devided 2 fresh up into baggies of drumsticks, wings, breast, thighs. I also got 2 bags of 500g or more of extra cuts ill use as diced. I still have 2 whole turkeys in the freezer. Mine were $7 frozen to $8 fresh per kilo. Here that is cheap!!!
Girl, good for you! Hello from a fellow educator (I teach 4th grade)! Preserving has made my life so much easier, and your channel has lead me not only to great recipes but strategies! I've changed how I shop. Currently in a freezer full situation. Thanks for the heads up about frozen food month! I drop by Aldis too on Thursday or Friday so I can stay in and recharge (and can) over the weekend. Great job. I hope you have a good rest of the week.
You and your dad are too cute. I have to tell you- I made fermented diced celery with jalapeños last week jumping off from that Fermented Vegetables cookbook you talked about. Put it into my pimento cheese and it was *chef's kiss* SO GOOD!
