If I try hard enough, I might get a steal on good-used Sonus Faber Olympica Nova 5s that look like they are brand new because the prior owner has taken good care of them and power them with 100-watt tube monoblocks and provided the signal to those monoblock amps with a matching tube pre amp.

The only reason I have a high end system is because I buy on the used market. I can't afford to play in this world at list prices but I've put together quite a respectable system anyway.

Seems like some crazy deals on high end equipment . I didn’t think McIntosh would drop like that . I’m in BC or else I would be loading up a few items :)

There’s a few reasons why. Home theater gear doesn’t hold its value like 2 ch gear. And it’s an estate sale. So they’re probably just trying to move it fast. Which means these really are great deals. But if it were being sold by the person who bought them. They would probably hold out for a lot more money. And get it too, eventually. Because McIntosh gear, in particular, holds its value way better than most other brands. ✌️

Probably one of the saddest videos put out by Adrian. Clearly the previous owner loved the hobby and had tons of great equipment pieces in his collections. It may be a haul to you Adrian, but it was somebody else’s pride and joy. Wishing you well, Brian

Yes it is indeed very sad. The owner was my client and friend. One of the sad things in my business is the growth of estate sales, and no, I take no joy OR profit in helping the estates

I’m in LA but grew up in Ohio. I’ve seen stuff out here at thrift stores I only saw in magazines. RS-B100 tape deck for $10 at goodwill and that’s no joke. Nak’s everywhere etc.

That's not how you measure db Plus or minus, if it's +/- 1 dB that is not 2 dB, but is what it says 1DB intolerance either way, it could be 1db down could be 1db up but not both

You misunderstand me. I was pointing out that numbers can be easily misunderstood without the graph. For example, if my Frequency Response curve was ragged, I could say it was +/-3db but in reality the variances are 6dB. You are right that in theory, manufacturers should use the median average

Boy did the original owner take a bath on this equipment. These guys gave his wife almost nothing for it. That should be an eye opener when buying high priced audio equipment.

They don't buy equipment. It's all on consignment and they don't determine the price. I know first hand. They ask what the person wants and we also don't know what the circumstances are.

It probably has very little to do with the money and more about simply getting rid of the equipment. I know from experience...you just want to get things out of the house at some point regardless of resale value. It's a hassle for those left to deal with.
