continuous improvement + stacking functions illustrated by a wood stove is the first episode of the new appleturnover series, the journal of small work*
subscribe to @appleturnover.tv to get the next episode of the journal of small work* and short tips drawn from all the films.
learn all sorts of ways to use your wood stove more effectively by stacking functions.
how can we live well within the limits of our living systems? This new series is a response to overwhelming urgency. In the face of the daunting prospect of transforming how we live, let's start where we are, with what we've got, and build from there.
this first journal pairs the useful, comforting framework of continuous improvement (kaizen) with the principles of multiple and stacking functions (permaculture), redesigning our systems to meet several needs at once.
the wood stove illustrates how these frameworks can help us adapt to rapid change without losing our balance. We can apply these patterns all over.
what continuous, incremental action are you already taking towards living regeneratively?
what stacking and multiple functions will you add next?
wet us know in the comments. Your small work inspires us all to action.

There is something about you, the way you capture your vlogs with such passion and your mannerisms in which I have this deep longing to want to experience and be apart of the serenity that you behold.

My wife is from Mexico and is comfortable at about 80 degrees. Our heating bill was higher than housing cost in the winter. We switched to a wood stove and love it. I have a 3 acre permaculture property where I can cut fire wood but an elderly man insisted on selling me a dump truck load of split fire wood for $250. After speaking with him and hearing how he was a widower and needed something to do and a little extra income, I started buying from him every year. I have him deliver it during the japanese persimmon harvest so we can give him fruit when he comes by. One other observation a wood stove with a pot of hot coffee make for a great winter day. Thank you for the video.

I bought a wood cookstove years ago and hauled it all over the deep South until we finally settled in Western Kentucky. We had it installed in our living room because the house is only 940sq.ft. Yes, a wood cookstove in the living room is really not ideal but it sure does have it's uses. Luckily it is a Lacunza so is not unpleasant to look at. Really enjoying your videos and subscribed.

My family and I live in a rural area. We use our woodstove to heat our home, dry the laundry and cook in poweroutages. I am interested in learning how to cook more using my wood stove 😊

We use our wood stove mostly for warmth, also as a good mental health tool to raise the spirits, and most importantly to dry shoes and clothes! And also to help rise the bread nearby. I’m so grateful for this video with lots of new ideas. Thank you ❤️❤️

Very nice, you are really living out the principle behind - ”waste not, want not”. In a sence it is a matter of reinventing the wheel, but, on the other hand - where would we be without the wheel. Thank you for reminding us all of, what it is really all about. Looking forward to see where keeping your ideas in the forefront of my mind will take me, as I’m about to start my new life, as a pensioner, on a small plot of land. God bless.
