I’ve crunched many numbers with this...I’ve owned 2 different DVC contracts since 2000. My opinion is simple...if you are are going to visit WDW every other year for a long time, buy DVC. If you only go occasionally, rent DVC. One perk almost never mentioned whenever anyone talks about owning vs. renting is that I bought from a resale company. You can get almost any home resort there and save lots of $$. I paid $85 per point for Saratoga Springs in 2013 and can sell it now for around $100/ point. So my $1000 annual dues plus going every other year works out great even if I don’t sell it vs. renting. If I sell I, I’d actually make a profit (minus annual dues).
All of my years going to Disney I never tried this. After watching this I am kicking myself. What a great way to save money on these high priced resorts. Thanks so much for sharing.
just an FYI, if you are a Rentee, you don't pay for parking it's included in the DVC member fees. So when my brother uses my points or anybody else you don't pay for Parking.
patricksp71 whoa really?! I thought you did have to pay to park if you rent! At the time I made this video it was free for everyone all the time but that’s great to know!
Great info! We are looking to rent DVC for a 2 bedroom villa (BWV) in 2019 and since we've never done this before I am feeling more confident in our choice!!
We are actually staying at boardwalk in December and booked with “Davids”. This is the 3rd or 4th time we have used them, and everything was perfect. I am Canadian so I feel comfortable using them. I would not pay the price Disney is asking for the time frame we are going especially with the exchange rate. Hope this helps someone!
I just found your video and this was amazing information! I just found out about renting DVC points. How far in advance can you do this? Does the DVC member set up your information so that your magic bands still get shipped to you?
Great Video...We've been rented points for years. One year I didn't and stayed at value resort...NEVER again!! It doesn't make sense to me to do it any other way!! Staying at a deluxe resort makes all the difference for our family! We use Davids vacation rentals.
OMG your ears! How'd you get your Million Dreams ears? My dream was awarded on Tower of Terror when we all got in the library. That promo was so much fun!
This was a great video! Very helpful! My only question I have is, do you have to pay the amount in full right away via PayPal when you rent dvc points? For instance, in your example it was roughly $1,300 for the week, do you need to pay that to the rental person via PayPal in full when you book?
Autumn Wojnarek it all depends on the person you are renting from. I have had the option to pay in two payments from a few different folks I was renting from, but others wanted full payment upfront. So it all depends on what you can work out with the person you’re renting from! 👍🏻
Unfortunately this is like a "room only" type of reservation. So you CAN book dining with it, but it wouldn't qualify for things like the Free Dining promotion, when that rolls around (typically each fall). But you get all of the other perks- Magical Express, Fastpass plus reservations 60 days in advance, Dining reservations 180 days in advance, Extra Magic Hours, ability to book a dining package, magic bands, free parking... that kind of stuff!
Do they give you the confirmation number first before any money is paid to them ? We are definitely looking at this for our next trip. We are family of 5 and we have a 2 year old. We he turns 3, our options will change as far as where we can stay,( no more POP rooms for us). Thanks for sharing !
Deanna Byers Since you’re doing this one on one with an owner, you can request to receive the confirmation before money is exchanged. I have had both scenarios.
Question about the trip planning. Once they book and give you the confirmation number, do you have to use their name or anything on the magic bands or website? They can rent the room with their points and then you can put your own parties name on the bands and reservation?
Qbec99 They make the reservation for you in your name! So when you link it to your magic bands, it just shows like any other Disney hotel reservation you would have made yourself!
@@AnnDunnington how much personal info do you have to give the owner in order for them to make that reservation for you and have it show up in your account?
Alright...I am totally confused. My family visits Disney World at least once per year. We always line up our visit with the Free Meal Plan. We often stay 10 to 14 days. This year it will be 14 days in total and will be staying at a value resort...The package includes tickets, includes Free Dining Plan (with the...1 table service, 1 quick service, 2 snacks), includes Transportation. Explain to me 'IF' we will benefit from the DVC. The total price of our visit to Disney World is $8,500.00 respectfully. I really want to understand this concept. Thank you so very much, friends!!! xoxo
Blue Harvest sorry this is late, but may help for the future. Free dining lines up with specific room rates that are a little higher in price than a normal room rate. So if you were to buy a regular room without the dining plan and add the plan on later you may spend a little more than you are currently spending but not too much of a significant amount. I’m not sure what the current value resort room rate is at the moment but probably around $100-150/a night. The resort she used is a deluxe resort and by renting points from a DVC member your cost is $162/ a night. You would then have to add the normal dining plan onto your reservation. However, since you’re paying more for a room rate with the free dining, you would more than likely only be spending about $10 more a night on a much nicer resort. I hope this helps!
Annie nice video 👍wondered if I could recommend 2 U.K. 🇬🇧youtubers I stumbled upon.the British Life and Ashley and Emma 😃nice Disney vids with a British wit 🇬🇧😊also nice English countryside.have a great day.peace
This was amazing!!!!! I've always been afraid to rent points because I have so very many health issues but with you explaining the travel insurance It would all be covered. We have done 4 trips with 2 bedroom villas and each trip has been around $10,000 including tickets and meal plans, but I know your way would save a bundle for us. Thank you so much for all the information Annie. TFS and take care...........
Can you stay 2 weeks at Disney vacation club resort with your points or are you only allowed 1 weeks? We usually go down the Sunday before Thanksgiving and leave Friday or Saturday of the following week.
What is the chances of scammers on these rental exchanges? I was scammed once out of $1200 over a vacation and I am just kinda scared, but this looks like a great deal! Maybe I should go with David’s?
@@AnnDunnington have you ever run the numbers or know an approximate difference per night of using David's vs. private owner? Sorry for all the questions! Your video was the first I found with useable information so I'm picking your brain! Lol 😂
Bianca you bet! It doesn’t qualify for free dining since its not part of a package, but you can definitely have either the person you rent from add it to your reservation or you can add it after you have your confirmation number.
debbiehernandez59 It is a public chat forum but you can private message the folks that are renting points, and that isn’t public. But if you post directly on the chat thread, it is. I hope that answers your question!
Andrew Brothers absolutely! You’ll just want to contact Disney after you have your reservation and request it. The person you’re renting from can also set it up for you if you ask them ahead of time that you need it 👍🏻
