I work in a shoe shop and I would recommend you buy the shoes as soon as you can. The later into august it gets, the styles start to sell out and then there’s not as many left. I would suggest buying half a size bigger in their shoes now to get the styles you want. You should have 14mm of room at the toe for room to grown which is roughly about a thump with. Hope that helps 😊 x

We used to go to an independent shoe shop and reserve the shoes I wanted at the start of the summer, and then check that they were still okay the last week of August, on the rare occasion my feet had grown they had an exchange scheme so I could get another pair easily, even if the 'replacement' pair were more expensive. That shoe shop still has this system 15 years later.

My son is starting reception in September, and his school is all brand uniform from the school shop. With £9.50 for 1 shirt, wish they would make it more affordable as I can’t afford 5 sets of school uniform.

You can do it cheaper buying from supermarkets
@MummyofFourUK
@MummyofFourUK 2 года назад
You could always get some cheaper non branded ones to sue in the winter when they don't take their jumpers off? Or speak to the school about buying plain from the supermarkets, they may be ok with it x
@kirstiev1072
@kirstiev1072 2 года назад
At some schools you can buy just the iron/sew on school badges, mine used to do this so you could buy supermarket non-branded items and attach the labels, at a fraction of the price.
@luckylucyrigione
@luckylucyrigione 2 года назад
@@georgiakatedurkin the school states you have to buy them from the school shop, as they are in different houses/ groups and their uniform match that house/group. As far as I’m aware there isn’t a way around not buying their brand uniform. But they are only little why are some schools soo strict about uniform, I can understand older child/ teenagers
@luckylucyrigione
@luckylucyrigione 2 года назад
@@MummyofFourUK the school states only their brand uniform, but like you said we maybe able to get away with it in the weather as he probably won’t take his jumper off. They also only do short selves in the school shop, which is silly as he would wanted long selves. His shirts are like a royal blue, and I’ve not seen any in the supermarkets.

My little one just finished nursery, his 2-3 trousers were round his ankles 😅 his white polo tops didn't survive the paint, mud and sun cream 😳 and his jumpers were a bit short 😂 so whole new set for him in 3-4 ready for reception (he's 5 in September) still have to do the school shoes 🙈 and school haven't announced if he needs P.E kit, I tend to buy 2 logo jumpers and the rest Asda branded, and do the cubby like you showed with a uniform set out a day, my daughter starts rising 3s in January so I'll then have another uniform to buy so I'm sure I'll see the cost next year, where I am in Wales (I was messaging you Instagram recently) they go part time the term after 3 then full time nursery from age 3 x

Would you not just let the kids get the wear out of the shoes during the summer then get new ones for school.

I started last weekend after watching one of your old back to school stock take episodes. So far your process is a great help to me, someone who lacks attention control. My kids don't wear uniforms so that makes things a bit easier, but my youngest two are two-years and one-year old so they are not yet as helpful as your crew which makes things a bit harder. I'm loving the tips I've gathered from your videos and am trying desperately to get our family organized over the next month.

Are there specific places in Wales where you take old clothes to resell them or is everything just taken to the nearest charity shop if you don't/can't give them to a friend? I'm glad your kids live in an age where they don't have to carry around massive textbooks. I think the UK and other places have always been better about that than the US anyway, though. Backpacks and book bags in the US are now so heavy for students who don't go to "rich" schools that can use technology instead of paper books that kids are getting back injuries from lugging them around every day.

I don't live in Wales but I've found that if schools don't have a second hand uniform scheme many churches take donations of uniforms (especially school branded or secondary ones, including shoes, sports kit, stationary, school bags and sports equipment such as hockey sticks, shin guards 'gum shields' etc) of the local school's colours (a church up the road from me asks for 'bottle' green tights, jumpers, skirts etc as the local primary school's colours are 'bottle' green for example) and will host 'uniform banks' so that parents who are struggling to afford uniforms can obtain good quality items at either a heavily reduced price or for free. I understand that nearly all parts of the UK tend to have some variation of this. I remember the load I had to carry around when I was in secondary school here in the UK as my school didn't have lockers and since they banned I Pads and laptops and such. Neither of my parents could LIFT my bag, even on a 'light' day. Might depend on the school's level of funding, strictness or whether the student body could afford to buy I pads or laptops from the school. A previous principal of my old school put forward the idea but it was turned down as it was realised most of the parents couldn't afford to buy them, even on 'hire purchase' from the school.

My daughter will be starting 7th grade on August 17th so really soon! She goes to public school so no school uniform except for her PE uniform but she has health 1st Semester so won’t need them until 2nd Semester and will have to try them on over winter break! The school provides a school supplies list. Lots of things she can reuse from last year but needed new notebooks and folders and of course pens and pencils. I also like to shop for school supplies when they go on clearance and put them away for next year or when she runs out of things! It’s still warm in the Chicagoland area so don’t have to worry about pants yet but should have her try them on before it gets cold in the next month or 2.

Wish we'd had leavers hoodies in primary school. They weren't a thing in the early tens. We had them leaving sixth form but I didn't want one as I have sensory issues with non 'zip up' hoodies, but I'd have loved the option at least. Does Will need a 'scientific' calculator yet? Kids seem to be introduced to more advanced maths operations earlier and earlier now so it wouldn't surprise me. If so I'd 100% recommend getting the 'solar powered' ones since they won't require any battery changes if it lasts the whole time he's in school. A friend of mine had the issue of her's running out of battery in the middle of a Maths GCSE exam so it seems more sensible to get a solar powered one. Does your kid's school have the option of shirts and ties, or is it just polo shirts? Same with whatever secondary they'll eventually go to? I remember Dylan wearing polo shirts in older videos but since you've since moved I'm not presuming your 'local' secondary would be Dylan's old Alma Mater if you get what I mean. My primary school only allowed polos in the summer term and mandated shirts and ties the rest of the time (I used to hate the feel of polo shirts so once I grew out of summer dresses my mum bought me 'summer blouses' instead as they were of the same material as the other shirts, except every new teacher assumed I wasn't wearing a tie and kept sending me to the principal- resulting in my mum having to tear strips off each one. The first year we did it my teacher was also VP and she said it didn't break school rules but clearly none of my teachers for the remaining 4 years got that memo) the reason I'm asking is because my primary school may have mandated ties, but since it demanded 4yr olds wear ties, they provided the option of elasticated ties, which most of us wore, and since pretty much no secondary school in my area has a polo shirt uniform (doesn't seem to be a thing in Northern Ireland, and interestingly enough most sixth forms that are attached to a school demand students wear uniforms too; there will often be some indication of maturity such as a different blazer, tie etc but over here you'll only see students wearing their own clothes to do A Levels if they go to a technical college), when my peers and I hit secondary we all really struggled with the fine motor skill of tying a tie properly after PE lessons as we weren't used to them. Since autistic people like myself and the little ones can struggle with fine motor skills like tying ties its occurred to me it might be useful for William to practice tying one next year to avoid any issues in the eventuality he is forced to wear one, I had numerous meltdowns in my first year due to not being able to tie my tie after PE quickly enough or after being 'tielanded' (someone pulling the end of your tie so that the knot goes absolutely tiny and is really hard to get out of), and the school pitched one hell of a fit over a friend who has Cerebral Palsy having his tie made into a clip on as he literally couldn't tie a tie due to how his hand muscles work, so good luck getting that listed as a disability accommodation if the school's anything like my old one was. It might be beneficial in the long run if that's going to be a thing in the future (may also be handy for any sixth forms that have 'professional' dress codes to know anyways if he goes to one in future years, for job interviews or for jobs that have a tie as part of the uniform) as he has time to perfect the skill instead of a sudden 'how do I do this' come July 2023. A family friend who has a child a year older than William is now having that problem as their old primary school didn't require a tie and its not going very well...

Vests under shirts are good to wear in winter. They normally sell multi packs of them near the underwear and socks. If you look on the school’s website they tend to say what they will need to bring. Probably just a pencil case with pens, pencils etc as schools give out books for students to work in. They can then use their bags to take home any books for homework. Hope this helps.

It really depends on the school...The only things my youngest has in his bag on the first day back is a water bottle, and gym shoes/plimsols (at his school they wear them as indoor shoes so the kids aren't dragging mud and water into the class room, their old school didn't do this)

Here in east Devon they just wore the leavers hoodies for their PE day (as they wear it in) in all the local schools. Our ‘different’ for year six is all kids must wear proper shirts (not polos) and they get given a tie to wear in prep for secondary school. It is adorable 🥰
