SAVE the TREES from the FREEZE - Palm Tree protection 

I wouldnt cut any fronds off. Especially if there are any green ones. They supply nutrients to the tree. And the cutting hasnt had time to heal before the freeze making them even more susceptible. Even if they’re dead.. leave them on.. they help protect it. Best to only prune palms in spring and early summer. You look pretty far north. Good luck! I LOVE my palms. Lost a lot of nice palms last year in Houston freeze - this year I'm gonna try wrapping 'em up in Christmas lights (btw the xmas lights of past he's referring to are called C7's) and then doing this burlap technique to help hold heat in. We'll see

also, cedar is toxic to most plants, a cedar mulch is not a good option, go for bark mulch from fir or hemlock or just use leaves

Looks like that should give your pindo some protection from the wind an decent insulation while allow some fresh air exchange. Seems like space between the boots will allow a buffer to the core of the trunk to provide further protection. Best of luck & happy 2023!

The layer of burlap covered with 5 mil black poly will keep the heat in. A roll of poly will cover 6-8 trees for less than another roll of burlap.

Man that thing needs anything you can give it. Sure lookin' rough.

If you are going to wrap in burlap should you not first wrap lights around the trunk then the burlap ? Would this cause a fire risk ?

Hello, I have eight newly planted queen palms planted maybe one month ago, they anywhere from 6ft to 15ft..its supposed to get down to 30 degrees tonight just like for 4 hours should I do anything cover wise with the palms or they should be ok? Thanks

I think I'd only did one later of burlap over the tape. Don't want it to get too hot.

I've just gone with the bubble wrap and leaf method as insulation. It's Nov 9 2019 and it's been freezing in NJ. Will keep u posted. Thanks for the information 👍

Hmm, i guess heat tape should work. Maybe i need to try that instead of incandescent lights. Seems like a firerisk though lol

I have no Palms but I have a butt. Last night it was 17F -8C. I am boarding a Feral Cat in the Kitchen. He's well mannered an well behaved. Sleeps all the time.

I've never had palm trees but I think wrapping them with plastic would be a good idea.

I have to say I feel sorry for palms that have to be wrapped up like this every winter. Obviously they’re in climates that are too cold for them. I live in the tropics so palms here never undergo this stress.
