This is JUST the video I needed! I'm constantly letting my dolls fall down outside while taking pictures, and also need to figure out a better way to display my dolls. Thanks for another great video Kristie! ❤
Let’s see, some French names from my list are (with some meanings cause I’m a name nerd 😅) Noëlle - day of birth Élodie - foreign wealth Désiré - desired, wished Cécile - blind Adeline - noble Avril - to open; April Emmeline - work Rosalie - rose Estelle - star Soleil - sun Lydie - of Lydia Béatrice - voyager, traveler Alienor - meaning unknown, form of Eleanor Arielle - French variation of Ariel; lion of God
I use the paper towel holders too. I will usually check them at the store to try and get the more stable ones. :). Sometimes not so easy! I have thought of doing the cardboard bottom and covering it with fabric to give it more weight on the bottom to help with the tipping issue and to make them look better. They also could be spray painted white or black for better appeal. I had not thought of the belt idea which is awesome and a great idea to hold 2 dolls on one stand! That is genius! Plus when you have a just display dolls section it’s all about how many you can fit and this is a perfect way to achieve this, nice job!
Thanks - I have a few outfits that will always require an AG/MLA/OG stand because of the "poofiness" (Glinda dress, Tiana costume, etc) but for most outfits, this just makes so much more sense for our collection. And yes - if someone doesn't like the look of them, there are plenty of options to change that a bit.
My mom had the same idea with using the paper towel holder! Your little tweaks are perfect. I still like the AG stands for the aesthetic, and the square bases fit my shelves best…but this is clever.
Oh, the AG stands are definitely prettier. But given the size of our collection and how high up the shelves are anyway, this swap was a no-brainer. It gave me more space and freed up most of the AG stands to take down and use in the basement (I kept some upstairs to display the girls wearing big dresses like Glinda's and Tiana's gowns)
Kristie! You could not have posted this wonderful tutorial at a better time! Thank you so much! I was literally just on the phone with my husband and he had stopped at Hobby Lobby to check out their doll stands. He said they have 4. I'm going to buy them for you. And then he said I've got a rain check for Monday. They are 3.99 which isn't bad. But forget that rain check. He will be pleased when I show this to him! I purchased an American Girl doll stand years ago and never cared for it because it was constantly needing adjustments. I'm sure there's a fix for that, but I gave it away. I have several Our Generation doll stands and love them, but they're no longer selling them at Target. But THIS I will do! Again, thank you❣️
I'm so glad! It's been several weeks and I'm absolutely loving this solution. Before you do it, make sure you read the video description as I added a tip I discovered post-editing :-)
Right?! I try not to turn their heads 90 degrees because when I see them that way it's creepy to me, but somewhere between 45 and 80 degrees allows me to see their faces clearly enough without imagining the head-spinning-vomiting scene from The Exorcist.
Great idea! You could cover the cardboard with the wood contact paper from Dollar Tree and it would look even nicer. If you covered up the bottom first, and then poured sand in the 'back' before also covering up the top, sealing it in there, that might provide adequate weight if you're just using it to hold one doll.
I was also thinking of ways to do add weight to make it less likely to topple for holding single dolls. Sand would work. And yeah, you could definitely make the cardboard look much better if your dolls were going to be on a lower shelf. Since ours are above eye level it doesn't matter to me, but contact paper is a great option!
LOL. I didn't suggest it before, but I definitely think it's a great option if space and/or money are limited. I love my AG stands but this is a fantastic additional option for me and I'm happy to share it with people who want another display option :-)
If your doll just wears dresses, I don't think you'd need the Velcro but just to be safe I'd recommend some weight on the "other side" if you're using it as a stand for just one doll (better safe than sorry).
@@agtakesover Thank you and thank you so much for sharing this! It’s really hard for me to spend $20 on an American Girl stand when I can use that money towards an outfit so I’m excited to try this!
Great idea! Probably wouldn't be needed for AG dolls but on the metal kieser(?) stands I cover the round bottom with cheap felt glued to help prevent the feet from slipping, works really well with high heeled shoes. You could do the same on the card board if needed.
Hi Kristie, I hadn't seen this video before making your ² AG doll stand.I saw another ¹ of ur video's inwhich @the end u showed the ² AG doll stand. That said it wasn't in depth like this ¹,I just needed to go by the look of stand .This is much better an even though the ¹st.stand I made I'm happy 🤗 w/ I will be making more stands this way❤.Thankyou Kristie ⁴ showing this idea,I love it plus waaaay less expensive.I sent u 2 pic's of the stand holding Corinne +Logan hope u like it an Thanx again.I live watching your video's I learn so much an thing's I never thought of😍. Lisa
You’re welcome 😊 If you decide to make these, make sure you read the video description because I discovered a tip after I edited the video and added it there.
I specifically went in search of this video! This is genius! My dolls will not stand on a shelf. They tip over quickly, so my only option is to use/buy doll stands. Crooked house. lol. And my space is very limited compared to the amount of dolls I have. I love this and saw in the comments about using elastic or ribbon. Thanks Kristie!
Yay - someone actually inspired me to redo this tutorial showing the elastic, so I've added it to my list. It'll probably be a few months, but in the meantime you can just make that adjustment yourself. I LOVE these :)
Fantastic! I've been using these paper towel holders too, but have been frustrated with them at times. Can't wait to try your velcro and cardboard fixes!!
Oh, I'm so glad the tips will come in handy! Just be sure to read the video description, since I realized something post-editing and added it in the description.
You are so welcome! I will say I'd skip the sticky-backed velcro. I ended up changing mine to use elastic with buckles on the ends of the elastic. You could use ribbon, too. Lots of options.
Wow, just love this! I was just looking for adjustable doll stands and some had bad reviews or were too expensive. I'm going to have a look next time I'm at the dollar store. Thank you!
I did end up changing these a bit later, but the concept is the same. I now use elastic with buckles instead of the velcro I showed here. I'm super happy with them.
I will say that since making this, I've modified it slightly. I use elastic and clasps instead of the velcro. Less messy, less risk of snags, and it wasn't any more costly. But other than that change...yeah - this is what I use and I LOVE them.
Thanks so much! - As an update, I ended up switching from the sticky back velcro to strips of elastic and I've liked that better. That's what I'd recommend (or the kind of velcro that has hooks on one side and loops on the other...but honestly, there's less potential of snagging with the elastic).
LOL I thought it was crazy when i saw this but I will be making these. I was wondering about how to better weight the back i if i only want one doll on it and make it more stable. Does the cardboard make the stand more stable?
The cardboard doesn't make it more stable - just protects their feet/shoes. You could use some sort of paperweight on the other side if you wanted (even a ziploc baggie filled with sand lol).
Thanks! IDK if you read the description, but I updated it to say I switched to using elastic instead of Velcro strips. I'm still using these all the time and loving them after that one change.
What a great idea! It's amazing how much less space that takes. And now you have all of those AG doll stands to use in the basement. Wonderful! And that was a great idea to add the cardboard. :)
