Saved From the Crusher: 1950 Dodge Special Deluxe!

Hi! Another junkyard gem for us; this time it's a 1950 Dodge Special Deluxe 4 door sedan. Cold War Motors likes this kind of thing, I guess. I bought this car in November, and during a break in the weather last week, we went outside and had another look at it and threw on a few hubcaps while we were at it.
It's a pretty decent and complete car; most of the missing pieces were inside and it looks to be all there under the hood. It's not too rusty, but would need some welding before it would go on the road. What it does have is a terrific dashboard with all of the original woodgraining intact. If I decide to put the 50 Plymouth fastback on the road, this sedan would be a great source of interior and drivetrain parts because it's a Canadian Dodge, which is mostly a Plymouth with a Dodge front clip and trim. Or, it might stay all together and wait for someone to come along and pile money and time into it. Unfortunately, these cars aren't worth much, even in roadworthy condition, so buying a nice one is a way better idea than trying to put a rough one together. Nevertheless, I thought it would look nice in the lineup, and it does! With any luck, I'll have some time to get it running this upcoming summer. I will do another video of the matching sister car to this one as soon as it's home here. It's the same year and model, and is probably the one to part out to save this one.
The other vehicles at the beginning of the video all found homes, too, so that's really good to know. I'd have liked that Chevy panel, but it was a big project and I'm already full, haha. I'd really like to thank my neighbour Ken who sold me this car and helped load it too!
Thanks to everyone who subscribed, and thanks also for all your comments and "likes" and kind words for my best girl Stella.
Cheers from all of us here at CWMC,
s&s

More than one way to load a Dodge it looks like...ha ha, Looks like a great car and very complete. Just one little whiskey dent on the right rear. Enjoyed the lighting round of "name that tire" too on this car. OE caps in the trunk a real treasure. Nice work!

Dad had Plymouths, first a used '50 and then a new '53 (which I was brought home from the hospital in) that he kept until 1960. He was very frugal and only wanted a radio and of course a heater. He never had a problem with either car. Would love to have a '54 Plaza wagon like one they used in the Highway Patrol tv show.

This look a lot like our next-door neighbor's 1950 Dodge, except it was green and with different taillights (this was in New Jersey). In 1964 she traded it in for a Valiant, with pushbutton transmission, etc. She was this little old lady, she must have had a time driving an old boat with manual transmission, no power steering, etc.

Scott, believe it or not, this is the video that hooked me onto your show. As I've said before, I have a '50 Plymouth which is basically the same car as the one you hauled home on this episode. It's a 4 door Special Deluxe. I just got through putting a T-5 transmission in it to make it a better runner. Still has the original flat 6. After a few more clutch adjustments i should be ok. But that episode started it all for me. I'm still catching up on all the episodes that you have posted but will get them all watched eventually. You have a great show on here and it really makes me smile watching you guys making those cars run! Anxiously waiting for that Cold War Motors decal to place on my Plymouth and my 47 Dodge! Glad you're back on the air. And thanks for the show and keep them coming.

Wow!! What a great find!! That's a diamond in the rough -- a little "tidying up", as was said in the video, and I'd bet that thing would make a great driver! You *have* to get that running! And those hubcaps -- is it weird that I got so excited when I saw those hubcaps in the trunk?! LOL. Those need to go on the car, definitely!

Hello again. What did you do with this car, are there vids on getting it going? So you are two hours from Vegreville? I was in Alberta in 1988, flew into Edmonton and stayed with friends in Hinton and Jasper, are you anywhere near these places? A friend gave me a baseball cap from Weldwood, the local papermill in Hinton. We then flew back to Brantford, Ontario and then drove out to Quebec and onto P.E.I. I like your vids, you have a real love of these old cars, why arn`t more of them saved? My name is Paul by the way.

Hey CWM, are you ever going to acquire an old VW and do a "Will It Run" on that? Specifically, what I had in mind is a 1958-1963 ("Herbie Generation") VW ragtop sunroof bug, that can be made into a "Herbie" love bug. Though pre-62's would require the bigger "high heels" taillights in order to be a righteous Herbie, in lieu of the smaller oval "snowflake" taillights. If you want to put stripes and "53"'s on it to make a "Herbie", I understand that you can order "Herbie Kits" over the internet.

Thanks for your videos. Brings back some fond memories. The day I turned 17, I bought a one owner, garage kept for 11 years, a 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe. Last year for the 'stop light' in the middle of the truck lid on Chrysler cars. One of the best damn cars I've ever owned. Wish I still had it. BTW, I'm an OLD, 75 yr. old 'gearhead' from the fitys/sixtys. Thank you again for these great videos.

Prior to watching your program, would not have even considered a big 50's more door. Matter of fact, there's also a '56 Olds "98" sitting in a carport, in Orlando. Should buy them both. Hi guys! Just a short non car question. I happen to own four old rotary dial phones. Two are black wall models like the one you guys found. One has a short cord and the other has a long cord. (Local and long distance calls I guess!). But I also own an orange wall model and an orange desk model. So I’m wondering if orange phones are rare and if they may be worth something. Great channel by the way. I throughly enjoy watching the “show”!

Miss Emma Harris, local North Georgia itinerate, was rumored to own such, and would reminisce of bygone days of care free times of windblown excursions in her 1950 Dodge (maybe it was a Plymouth) while drying her drawers in your oven. Personally, I was dubious, but enjoyed the stories, nonetheless.

Thank you for saving these cars!! Cool collection you have!! Wish I had some land to save some myself!! Sacramento had an old Buick junkyard "The Buick Bonery" which the County forced the owner Mike to crush out in recent years. :( Now they have there eyes on an outdoor collection of many solid Sacramento EDSELS they would like to see gone. The owner of the Edsels is getting up there in age and I think is beginning to consider selling some of them, rather than see the county mash em. Search "EDSEL GRAVEYARD" on youtube.

correction on the chevy ..it is a sedan delivery. The panel delivery were based on truck bodies and chassis, the sedan was based on a car chassis.Quite rare they were a bastard, not a station wagon, not 4 door.i had a '49 ,the doors are the length of a 4 door door but have the rounded corner of a 2 door door.Just thought you might be interested.

That's nice, lovely shade of blue too. If the values of those Dodges isn't high then it might make a nice, fairly simple refreshment project and then run it as it is with the patina left intact and preserved to stop it deteriorating, then maybe in the future if the prices climb it might make sense to do the cosmetics too...
