In this video, I replace the rear crossmember on my 2005 GMC/Chevy Sierra/Silverado 1500HD. Find out how crusty and rusty the northeast cars really are! I hope you are enjoying my project truck videos!
This was a helpful video , Thanks !.... I'll be doing the same two ,on my 2000 Silverado got the bed off , parts are ordered , just cleaning the rust off and painting around the work area . I got new leaf springs and shocks . Going to be like a new truck ! I'm going to do a axel dump on the exhaust , so i don't care that there is no hanger on the rear crossmember. I'll just cut off the fuel tank one .
On this one I just used a grinder and didn’t remove much extra material. On the second one I just cut a box around the tube, way faster since you have a plate to cover it up
@@KelseyandJesse pulled the bed and drove to my tech college and asked to borrow their wirefeed for 1.5 hours, came back with some giftcards and left riding on my new shocks, took another month but got the lift installed
Jesse, Thank you for posting your video! Hope you are doing well and truck is running good. I just found out I need a crossmember for my 32’ Bucket truck, it’s a 93 GMC 2 wheel drive 3500. Do you know if a truck like this can get its cross member replaced from underneath?
I don’t see why not. I only had the bed off since I didn’t have on at the time 🤣it wouldn’t surprised if you could just modify one of the kits for the newer trucks.
Awesome Job on your truck and great quality work. I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado with bad rust on my chases as well and I can’t even install my Rear shocks 😢 beautiful video you made.
on my 77 square frame my crossmember rotted, that lead to frame flexing and the spring mount cracking.. so keeping an eye on any rusty crossmember or adding extras will keep your truck on the road longer for sure...
Yeah, newer chevys are horrible for frame rot. I’ve been following this guy on Facebook he’s done a lot of gmt900 and a few newer ones like a 2018 Chevy. Crazy
Picked up a 2000 silverado for a grand. Have to do a few things to it but you made the cross members look pretty easy and straight forward. Appreciate the video.
Thanks for the video. The welds turned out well considering whet you were working with on the frame. How did the shock mount go? I wonder why it was off so much?
It’s definitely a lot easier with the bed already off. The one I replaced in the video was the easier of the two since you don’t have to drop the tank. I’d say I had about 10-12hrs into both and that’s doing it for my first time. If I had to guess somewhere 10-20hrs. There is a lot that can go wrong on a rusty truck :). Hope it works out well for you.
@@KelseyandJesse So was it just the way it looked when you had it sitting on top of the frame or did you just have the full crossmember sitting in the wrong postion?
Do have the link for this cross member ...I have a 1989 gmc sierra, k2500 . Mine is so rusted ...looks like a wish bone ....but can't seem to fine it . This tube seem to work for my truck ...with the square parts at the end ..thanks
This is basically what I bought. www.ebay.ca/itm/165355187695?hash=item267fefedef:g:mTUAAOSw0t5iGGx3&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8P0geu2AsO%2BZ6iy2ml2txbOB%2FuJtV%2F9Icx9w8RsvmOlVz7WzjCKa7cxYeUmQQPeLKOd8O4aTD4Uc%2BU%2FFyinF94rEez9M8tHnc6m9LUwIm40%2Ffp5ipEbAeq16ByMXRMtm%2BlUf5EeGcud3vKdBdeUOvtLfcWxvF2jbhUDXIayQ74%2FIdpVvZUdc2kW%2BgpU4GuIBNE%2Bf5BiQVIaM7I4QD2lJaaN2j6KV3uMJF%2BxER4%2BTO2rWAUFT%2BiwNSscwgxiCqIQDZA%2FlpQP%2F20mKDa7q5MDTslXamoL3RSXN%2BKngVVirsvQlAOmZuHuKSU4WftKuadMR%2FA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4Sundu-YQ I would love a like an subscribe! @@KelseyandJesse good morning, There actually 3 cross members. I'm working on the last one which holds the spare tire . Eventually I have to replace the two that support the fuel tank . But I'm gonna have to make tube support work , just so I have some support in the rear . It's a plow truck so I'm not going to crazy , but concern about being safe ..thanks for your help .
