That’s a shame, Lyn. Hopefully the pups will root up nicely. I’ve found the Eriosyce/Neoporteria/Copiapoa are the more challenging ones to keep happy in our climate. Keep us updated on how the offsets do. Thank you for sharing with us as always. Have a wonderful afternoon and evening from Edith & myself to you and Hans ❤️🌵☀️🌼🌸🌺🏜
Thanks so much Daz :-D I was so gutted to see this Eriosyce had rotten to the core, but so relieved to save the pups, I had been so careful with the watering but I am thinking that the very high temps in the polytunnel may have caused it to go dormant, I notice that mid Winter and Mid Summer seem to be when I notice rot the most, our climate is definitely challenging haha, thanks so much Daz for your wonderful Friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you and beautiful Edith lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to England and Singapore for a sunny weekend XXXX
What a pity, such a beautiful cactus ended up rotted! And how far up the rot got!!! At least you have 2 pups from it! Hope they will do fine! Thanks for sharing Lyn! Enjoy your evening my friends Lyn and Hans! Lots of love and happiness!

Oh, Lyn, I've lost SO many cacti the last month. I hit a bit of a rough patch, feeling homesick and whatnot, and completely neglected most of them. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to save any of them, but I didn't catch it fast enough. The happy part of this is, I now get to shop for some new cacti, and I'm out of my funk. These videos are always super useful. Sending you love and plant power from AZ!

That's a terrible loss💢💔It's great though that you have 2 pups. Here in Japan I have a lot of my cacti up on the wall of my balcony. They always do better there because the air moves and humidity clears away, and the plants skin looks healthier and stronger👌💖I enjoyed watching🤲🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟And good luck with growing the pups
Thats so wonderful you have your cacti up on the wall of your balcony, I bet they look amazing, I was so sad to lose the Mother plant but so happy I was able to save two of the pups, thanks so much Newman for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Japan for a wonderful weekend XXXX
One of the things I love about your videos is you're so good about showing the " disasters" as well as the successes. I just had to unpot and cut one of my star aloes. In a clay pot, chunky mix and I use a moisture meter so it doesn't get watered until it hits 0. But it's like you said, Lyn, who knows why? Glad you had 2 nice healthy pups. I cut mine, let it callous and it's in dry soil now. Fingers crossed it will develop a good root system and I cut far enough up the stem!
Thats fantastic you caught your Star Aloe in time and I bet it will recover and grow a new root system really well, its always a mystery when we know we are doing everything right with our plants but they still get rot, but thank goodness you was able to save your Aloe and I was able to save two of the pups from this plant, thanks so much Molly for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a sunny Sunday today XXXX
@@desertplantsofavalon Happy Days! Watering day here and I had a peep in the very dry cactus soil of the repotted Star Aloe. It's grown a lovely root system so it had a water and is back under the grow lights. Found a new chunkier cactus mix I'm loving and hope it will grow and prosper just like your two salvaged pups!
So sorry for the loss of your little green guy Lyn but happily we have babies. Hopefully they will flower soon. We'll all be waiting for the updates on them.
Thanks so much, I was so sad to lose the Mother plant but I was so relieved to be able to save the two little pups, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX
Oh no, but at least you have those 2 baby cactus, I hope they set roots and grow so well for you, the mother plant was stunning, and you could also see how vastly different the spines appear on the very young cactus pups compared to the mother plant, which always fascinates me! Always a pain when this rot takes hold especially when we don't see it happening until it reaches the edges and shows itself 👍🏻🌵😊🤞🏻
Awwwww thanks so much Claire :-D I was so gutted when I seen the rot and it must of spread so fast and I was mad that I didn't spot it sooner, but so relieved that I could save the two pups, they are callusing over nicely thank goodness, thanks so much Claire for your wonderful friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Sea for a fantastic Friday and weekend XXXX
Such a shame but at least you have 2 pups. I use horticultural charcoal in all my soil mixes now. It helps with any bacteria that maybe in the soil. It doesn’t take much for rot to set in does it. Sorry you lost your cactus 🌵 thank goodness the cactus had pups xxxx
Thanks so much Laura :-D I was so gutted to lose the Mother plant but so relieved to have saved the two pups, the rot had spread so fast and it really doesn't take much for the dreaded rot to set in lol! thanks so much Laura for your wonderful friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you and Faryl lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the sea for a wonderful weekend XXXX
Well, what a dramatic vid,but hopefully a successful result with the pups! It's crazy how quick success can turn to an near total disaster in a blink of A eye. As a total newbie, is it a viral, bacteria, or fungal problem? I understand that it may not be a weakness in the plants, but the strength Of infection that is attacking them in the first place. Well good luck to you both with the pups and I hope that this is not a Problem that can freely spread to your other plants. First class information, and thanks to you both, Bill.
Thank you so very much Bill :-D I was so gutted to lose the Mother plant but so happy to have been able to save the two pups, I think what may have happened is although I always wait until the soil has totally dried out before watering again, because the temperature has been so hot in the polytunnel above 100F it may have caused the cactus to go into a bit of a mid Summer dormancy, and the watering may have caused the rot, but I am not sure 100% what has caused it, it was growing so well but sometimes insect pests may pierce the skin by sucking the cactus and this can cause an open wound the size of a pin head, and infection can set in and cause rot this way, but I think because the rot was from the base up its more likely caused from me watering it at a tie it was having a bit of a mid Summer rest, thanks so much Bill for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX
Cool video Lynn, thank you! And as always long live king Hass!!! Oh hey Lynn...I was watching your video and halfway through remembered that I left my cactus seedlings outside and it's raining hard here!! I started them in a milk jug that I cleaned and cut halfway through...of course with drainage holes.... anyways they got really soaked....is there anything I could do to maybe speed up the drying process ?? Thought about using a hair dryer but I'm not sure if that would make it worse....what should I do??? Please help!
Hi David :-D so sorry for only just seeing your comment, I hope your seedlings are ok, what I do if I want to dry out soil in pots faster is I use a few sheets of kitchen roll and put it under the pots, the absorbent kitchen roll helps to soak up the moisture in the soil, I wouldn't use a hair dryer but if you have a cool fan you can put this near the seedlings as the circulating air will also help to speed up the drying, I hope this helps, thanks so much David for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday XXXX
Wow, lucky! I can imagine Ireland can be a challenge. I live in the southern most part of the Australian mainland so it can get quite damp and cold here in winter.
Thanks so much Brendan :-D it can definitely be challenging growing cacti in our climates haha, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Australia for a wonderful weekend XXXX

Hi Suzanne :-D I plan on being in some of my vids very soon haha, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic weekend XXXX
I am so relieved to have saved the pups, I am not sure why this poor cactus rotted but it may be caused from being too hot in the polytunnel as the temps had been above 100F in there and this sometimes causes cacti to go dormant during the high summer heat, its possible the high heat and watering may have caused its rot, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX
@@desertplantsofavalon I've never heard of too high heat and the water. I'm learning 😊 In the future I will like more cactus plants. I'll know what to look out for and how to care for them better.🌵
haha Mick :-D yes Dr Hansie to the rescue haha, I am so relieved to have saved two of the pups, the rot had spread so fast and I am so glad I caught the two pups in time to save them both, thanks so much Mick for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX
