I'm so glad you said something about keeping the meal small. A lot of the time people want to stuff the starving animal full of food, but that's so dangerous. All animals, even humans, can't just eat a lot of food at once when they've reached an emaciated state. That's too much on the body. You have to take it small and slow, building up to a "normal" sized meal. You have to let the body fully digest the small amount of food before you can give another small amount of food.

Taking it to a dark place but when the Nazi concentration camps were liberated the victims were kept in the camps for something like three months slowly being given increasing amounts of food before they could be let out. Initially the plan was to release the camp prisoners immediately however so many were getting refeeding syndrome and becoming seriously ill or even dying that the allies had to put extremely strict rules about not feeding them from soldier's rations.

There’s a couple comments asking if Orbeez are non toxic, and the answer is yes! They have nothing in them that can bleed off onto the snake, the only way they can be toxic is if they are left to break down for 2-5 years, in which the polymers used will release a harsh chemical, but only when they’ve been placed in the ground or used for a hot minute. Kevin comes up with the most interesting ways to help reptiles. I’m always astonished at his unique ideas. Who would have thought to use a “kids toy” to help snakes with stuck shed? No one but Kevin. My kids have some of these so I’m going to put some inactivated orbeez up in my emergency critter helping kit just in case I ever have a need for them. Everybody should have an emergency kit for their animals filled with essential tools for problems you can attempt to fix at home or things to help them make it through until a vet appointment can be obtained. That last snake (super dwarf baby?) seemed to take that pinky without a lot of fuss, which makes me question why it’s so skinny… Of course a lot of reptiles seem to know that Kevin won’t hurt them so maybe he’s the reason it took it so well. Thank you for sharing this tip guys! It’s now in my brain if I ever need it. 🤘🏻☺️💕 Btw, Kevin should be called The Reptile Whisperer in my opinion. 🤘🏻

Captive snakes do have the rough large expensive rugged environment littered with rocks, tree bark, sand, etc. so when they move and slither, the shed that’s ready to fall off will slowly come off. Snakes shed is constantly being assisted by. It doesn’t hurt the snake to help assist captive snake shedding as letting the snake die from severe stuck shed is actual torture life mummification. Reptile owners should just be taught when to properly remove shed, and let the reptile do it on it’s own when it starts off. Good info. I noted an improvement in hydration by switching to bottled spring water. Tap water quality varies depending on where you live, and routine treatments can make it less palatable.

I recently gave back a snake I was fostering for a friend over the last 2 years. I unexpectedly came to love and had a few scares and now want one if my own. I gladly returned Cloud to my friend, it meant his life improved so he could care for him properly. It was an honor. My only wish would be to have found your channel so I could have learned few things I needed back then. You can bet, though, that I'll be watching and learning from your channel as I await my next friend. 🙂

That poor baby at the end. 😥 I've never seen a snake that thin that wasn't deceased already. Hope it makes a full recovery! Also, why was it in such bad shape?? Was the owner neglecting it or was it just not taking food and they didn't know how to assist feed? I'm glad they brought it to you and didn't just let it pass away...

Id suggest maybe for more comfort and security for the snake to use a dark colored Orbeez. They come in all shades and I'd think the snake would feel more secure if submerged in a dark colored surrounding then the bright clear color. Or just leave them in a dark place lol
@SohiHien
@SohiHien 2 года назад
The colored ones likely are dyed with synthetic dyes which would make them not safe to use.

My python is in shed. I had ONE bad shed with him when I got him and it's bc there wasn't enough humidity. He does not like the feeling of being sprayed. Others told me to soak him but when I had him soaking, he was upset. I sat with him and held him for a while, most of his body still in the water (he could hold his head up and wouldn't drown if he got tired) but then he slithered towards me, faced me, and rested his head in my palm and just stared up at me. OMG THE GUILT!!!!!! I felt like absolute s--t. He really doesn't like water like that. By the next shed, I amped up the humidity to max and every shed after that was clean and perfect. I can't imagine what this baby in he video was going through

Vet tech here. This could be used in so many different ways! Now, how do the beads hold heat? 🤔 Can they be microwaved? Heating pad or lamp? Got my brain working today!
@TheChildofKarma
@TheChildofKarma 2 года назад
Heat lamp or heating pad might work but I'd be careful about a microwave. I have a friend who makes car air fresheners out of similar type beads that melt and stick together if they get hot enough.
@SohiHien
@SohiHien 2 года назад
No heating required. You don't keep them in a soak or the beads long enough to cause any issues. An hour or less being a little cold is fine.

Fun fact: Orbez expand a lot more with distilled water. Has to do with osmosis, the fewer the dissolved solids, the more the orbez attract water. Tap water has a little bit of dissolved solids, distilled has *_almost_* none. Don't bother giving your reptiles distilled water to drink, there is little or advantage to doing so. If anything, human safe tap water is *probably* better for reptiles. If you are concerned about chlorine, use water conditioner (like you would use for fish or amphibians) or get bottled water, which has some dissolved minerals which are better for health and taste.

This is a very good idea ! I had a snake that I got from someone who lost a tiny piece off its tail due to stuck shed .. the snake was fine & healthy but the skin was dead & I didn’t want to try and remove the stuck shed because it couldn’t be saved .. so the snakes won’t die from that but it definitely could cause issues .. I hope that little snake will start to eat and gain some weight .. it’s the most stressful thing owning reptiles when they don’t eat , especially if they’re young .

So satisfying when you got the old skin off!! My ball python currently has one singular stuck shed scale on his head. Like just one dot. I've had him since December and he's never had stuck shed.
