I honestly feel like an asshole watching this. You betrayed Akechi for your own happiness. Maybe you were doing it thinking about him, but he didn’t want this, still, you did it. Now, everyone is just a puppet in this false reality where “pain” doesn’t exist, thus, “true happiness” will fade away in time.

23:09 oof it's like Joker and Akechi know they're stuck in this reality and are forced to be wearing smiles. this ending high-key creeps me out ngl, they have no free will. even in maruki's palace it's explained that they never get to really achieve their dreams and wants in life. if it's too risky, Maruki doesn't let them do it. in the true ending, they all follow their passions. this ending is just... not right

This ending may feel happy but we all know that isn't life. These characters fought hard for their freedom but choosing this ending strips that away from them. You cannot rely on false world to make you feel happy... you'll feel more full filled knowing you worked for your own happiness. Those characters didn't need anyone to save them... they were doing fine because they had each other. You can make the world a better place, but making it a fairytale where everyone is happy feels so... unsatisfying. We all know what these characters wanted... don't turn a blind eye to that. Even though in the true ending... one if our beloved characters is gone... he's happier dead then being used like in this ending.

I wanna share my opinion too, i just finished the game 10-20 minutes ago I think we're considering all this because we know and think how our reality it works. The idea to fight to gain what we wish, the bad stuff happening Etc. Etc. But, can we tell if what we are living is not actually under the control of someone? How can we really being sure we're fully in control of our actions? The reason why i think the Maruki's idea it works is because the people will never know about being controlled and will live always with the mind of realizing their life with their efforts. It looks all this bad cause we know what's happening, but if you get the chance to never know and the promise you have a full happy life in a new reality.. I would probably still choose the Maruki's reality than The only problem is.. Can't live forever so.. Once Maruki's die all the reality die too so.. Damn xD
@Pugkin5405
@Pugkin5405 2 года назад
@@ZackTheRiolu The problem with his world is that there's no suffering. That seems good at first, but think about how different you, everyone, and the world would be if nothing bad ever happened. Everything would be different, and not in a good way. There are lots of good things that come out of hardships, it's how life works. You can't have a "good" life if nobody has a "bad" life. His world takes away the meaning of what it means to live. Humans are humans because our lives are imperfect. When you take that away, we're just here

My main problem with the bad ending is that Kasumi remains Kasumi, when in reality she came to terms with being Sumire and became more happy because of it. Maruki doesn't consider what people actually want, he just does what he personally thinks people would want if he was in their situations (as shown throughout his palace). Besides, as Jose said, everyone who lives happily in the new reality will always doubt everything in life. And since the phantom thieves still exist, bad things still happen.

@@MaximilanRiver Yeah because death is inevitable. Working to make the world a better place is always worth something even if you can't fix everything, and Maruki didn't fix everything. One man cannot make everyone happy regardless of what godlike power he has. It's very clear that his world is a self-indulgent paradise. Yusuke and Haru gets to have their fathers back as the fake loving versions they believed, but Shido and Kamoshida just disappear. Apply that generally. Who is Maruki to twist the minds of abusers and abuse victims until they fit his version of happiness? What if someone else's happiness necessitates another's misery? Even if the PT only saved one person, Shiho, Joker's confidants, the world probably considering what Yaldy's plans were, that's worth it, that amounts to something. Akechi was sickly happy being under Shido until Joker came around, he was proud of what he was doing, who are you to tell that someone doesn't deserve to live? Sure, I feel the same way about Kamoshida, but think about it, him being defeated made Ann somewhat happy, maybe it was a somewhat "sick" happiness of being able to confront your abuser and show them that you're better than them, and maybe she's a different kind of happier in this reality, but is it true happiness?

Well not really, they pretty much denied all their past and the whole reason of their “rebellion” and getting their own persona. They made the phantom thieves to change bad people’s hearts. However Ren/Joker/player simply let Maruki basically change the hearts of the entire phantom theives but him and Akechi. Those two are the only one who knows they’re living in a fake world while everyone else seems to be ok with it not finding it weird. Plus Futaba’s mom is alive. She’s not supposed to be alive.

Here’s a question: if Maruki succeeds in rewriting reality, does his Palace still exist in some form in the new reality? And if so, could his power still be confronted? Perhaps even by individuals aside from the Phantom Thieves? Or, is it simply irreversible, the Metaverse erased, no more potential to change the world to a reality of true growth? And what of Maruki himself? Does he retain his powers? Does he lose them? Does he only gain the power to rewrite reality once, meaning that the world could still “return to its old course” after enough time passed, that the observations/effects of Maruki’s powers could no longer effect a new generation of people? There’s many, many potential interpretations. You could make spin-offs from this one choice alone.
@gonzalorosciolesi6502
@gonzalorosciolesi6502 2 года назад
I doubt the palace disappears, but we have to consider that 1) if Im not mistaken, someone mentions that Maruki can easily kick someone out of his palace, but he doesnt do it with the PT because Maruki actually wanted to confront them and 2) since everyone is happy and perfect, no one will ever be forced to be an outcast, thus nobody will ever need the metaverse
@Diamond_Aura
@Diamond_Aura 2 года назад
@@gonzalorosciolesi6502 that however, implies that Maruki will continually monitor the entire world acting as essentially a misguided but well meaning god for all time. His actualization *did* allow him to rewrite several deaths… could he live forever with his newfound power? Would he choose to continue directing the world for as long as he could? Or, is his power inherently limited? Would he die eventually? Would he choose to? What would become of Mementos at that point? Would his resolve ever falter and change before that could happen? Plus, I think part of the point of the other reality is to show that even when people *thought* they were happy, they still felt like something was a bit off compared to before. Even if they couldn’t fully remember the difference between the new and old realities, if people like the Phantom Thieves could remember their old lives, could anyone else? Could anyone else awaken to a Persona? What if someone’s wish before the new world arrived, was to be like a Phantom Thief, and so Maruki’s actualization allowed them to enter Mementos and awaken a Persona? Could that theoretical person become a new set of Phantom Thieves, separate from Joker and the gang? Would awakening to a Persona in the new world even be possible? And if so, would it let them remember the old world? As I said, so many ways you could take these ideas

It’s a game. Life is all a game. Players adhere to a strict set of rules and we try find wins for ourselves and the people around us. Our work creates an effect and we have agency. Maruki basically erased the game. Gave everybody a win. But a game where everyone wins is pointless. Why do anything. Why try anything new. Everything that makes us special as agents of our own reality. Totally erased. In exchange for happiness, Maruki stole our humanity. This is the worst ending of all.

(This is my opinion feel free to object and share your view) I kinda feel like selecting the true ending is the selfish one. You pick a reality where you and your friends over come and beat your hardships. Sounds great right? Well then you have to realize that fucks over everyone else in the world who isn't happy and surrounded by loved ones. In Maruki's world there wouldn't be depression, war, death, hunger, cancer, and pretty much everything that keeps someone not as fortunate as the phantom thieves from being happy. Notice how this argument doesn't really ever come up in the debate? Notice how its mostly "We pick the real realty because we are proud of overcoming what we went though"? That's because the second anyone brings up the massive suffering and loss their choice would bring would almost totally shatter any argument that could form. Got your loved one back? Nah back in the grave with em. Dog not dead? Back in the hole skipper. There were somethings wrong with Maruki's line of thinking sure but it would have just been a way smarter move to work with him and help him see a truly morally correct view point. In his palace he would change your desire from say, being an artist to being something else if you couldn't make it as an artist to save you from the pain. I think Maruki needed someone to guide him rather then be fully shut down. I mean choosing to undo his reality means everything his persona changed since the moment it awakened means Rumi goes back to being a veggi. The actions of the "good" ending leads to a woman becoming brain dead again but hey...you choose the right answerer I guess...

See I love this ending, I really do but I have to ask myself, if you are always happy then what is true happiness ever going to be defined as? It might sound a little confusing but life can't only exist with just happiness cause their would be no opposite. In the beginning of this reality that the player chose sure it will be great at the start but as time progresses what will they work for will their be blood, sweat and tears? From Marukis POV there will be no need for that. So what is happiness if their is only happiness
@ButterflyScarlet
@ButterflyScarlet 2 года назад
Okay but like, Maruki's world is only a paradise on the surface. Sure there's no disease or tragedy, but it's not a perfect world. Death and pain are inevitable parts of life, and while I'm not advocating the whole "hur suffering builds character!" nonsense, working to make the world a better place is always worth something even if you can't fix everything, and Maruki didn't fix everything. Does he just tweak them until they start playing nice? Then you might as well be a doll. Even if the PT only saved one person, Shiho, Joker's confidants, the world probably considering what Yaldy's plans were, that's worth it, that amounts to something. They made the world better through their own hard work rather than roll over and let someone else solve everything for them. *TLDR:* Maruki was wrong and there's more to the argument than "uwu but his world has no suffering therefore it's better!" Even if you apply his logic to Akechi who was only brought back to life because Joker wanted it, what kind of existence is that worth when you're forced to dance on a string and only here because one boy couldn't let you go? Do you have a choice in the matter?
@Jax1147
@Jax1147 2 года назад
@@ButterflyScarlet Maruki had a system for happiness that everyone could partake in if they choose to. You didn't have to see Maruki himself you just had to go to his center and state your wishes and his shadows would do the work from there. If you didn't go to this center you would never get your cognition changed. Maruki wasn't omniscient after all. "Who is Maruki to twist the minds of abusers and abuse victims until they fit his version of happiness?" Ironically this is exactlly what the PT do. They twist the minds of abusers and force them to well...stop being abusers. If Maruki makes sociopaths and pysothpaths no longer any kind of "path" then ill chalk that up as a win for everyone. I mean if your idea of happiness is the suffering of others you very much dersever to have your mind changed. Why do you think we prescribe people with mental issue drugs that control such issues. Akechi wasn't on any strings and its very clear. He openly aposes Maruki and can freely tell Joker to go fuck himself if he wanted to. Hell Maruki doesn't even have a fail safe on Akechi. Akechi could have just left and that would have been the end of it. I mean if your gonna make a puppet a puppet. Rule 1 is you should make them fine with being a puppet. Kinda dumb to make a puppet that wants to slit the throat of the puppeteer if you ask me. Muraki choosing happiness for others is however true. Example being if you sucked at art and had no chance being an artist Maruki would just make it so you don't want to be one IE avoiding the pain of being a failure to your dream. This is where I feel it would have made sense for Joker and his friends to act as a moral guide for Maurki. Maurki didn't need to be full on shutdown but rather shown a better more morally correct way. Those who do want to strugle in life and have hardship should by all means be allowed that freedom. Those who want the happiness and bliss that Maruki offers should be allowed it as well. There shouldn't be a "oh this 1 part of your amazing deal sucks so we should just scrap the whole thing". I feel if Joker offered to work with Maruki he would 100% say yes as he considers Joker a true friend. Side note on somethings. Im pretty sure Shido and Kamoshida are in jail in this reailty. Not 100% sure on this though. Lastly Joker's confidants (not his party memebers) problems only go away because they had someone else solve everything for them. That being the Phantom Theives. No amount of hard work would have fixed Kawakami or Takemi's problems unless someone like Joker intervened to give 2 examples. TLDR: Maruki was wrong but not working with him for a better way is even worse.

@ButterflyScarlet
@ButterflyScarlet 2 года назад
@@Jax1147 the PT don't twist the minds of their victims. Their Change of Heart doesn't actually change people, it just makes them feel guilty. They're still fundamentally the same, they just feel bad about their crimes. Also the PT didn't enact their CoH on a large scale to every unconsenting person. Their targets ranged from sadistic abusers to full on evil politicians, and they only went after them because they had limited options and couldn't get help elsewhere. You cannot compare what Maruki did to the actions of desperate children dealing with a society where they have no real power. Maruki wasn't right. Let's take your example of wanting to be an artist but not having the talent/skill so he edits the person so they mo longer have that dream, or magically gifts them the skill with zero practice? So a world where either you stop having aspirations or you no longer have to work for anything ever at all. People cannot be happy all the time. This ending is honestly such a utopia, but people need to understand something. This methodology has been tested and tested and while there’s times I wish I didn’t have to suffer, you can’t live life without it. If anyone has read or watched the giver, it is a wonderful representation of the world Maruki wants. A utopia where nothing bad can happen, but note that emotions other than happiness were repressed. The giver harbors the memories and history of mankind that caused the utopia to take form, because society is cruel, but what’s more cruel is bending to a world that has designed you to feel nothing but happiness. If you feel nothing but happiness, then what is anything else? What have you learned? If every bad person became good, and made the world a better place then what is the defining values. Take into account politics and their heated debates. Things like pro-life Vs pro-choice. That would need a definitive answer or else we’d all be upset, and that distorts our individuality as people. I have my core beliefs, but I won’t deny the opposing side has contributed good things to the world. Good cannot exist without bad because then that good will be tainted regardless of what we do. The only difference is that we’re forced to repress the sense of wrongness. The face value things like world hunger is great. I’m sure if we worked together we could’ve done it, but in the end, it feels nothing less of a machine that’s supposed to optimize happiness. If you people wanna live in an escapism world, fine by me, but personally, after the amount of betrayals, belittling, self depreciation and internal comparison to my superiors, I wouldn’t be nearly as strong as I am now. To those who are struggling, feigned happiness isn’t happiness, it’s just a temporary fix. If everyone was happy and got what they wanted, nothing would matter anymore. YOU need to fix your own problems and be the person that fights to change the world. You can’t force happiness. If you really want this ending, you have to earn it by living in reality, because in the end, a fake will forever be a fake no matter how hard you try to pretend it isn’t.

this bad ending doesn't seem like a bad ending to me, this just seems like a good ending not the true ending. This ending isn't a bad ending because being stuck in a altered illusion with no pain, suffering, or pain just happiness sounds like a good ending. No more people would die because of starving and ect. This is a good ending to me.

Except no one does anything they just live their lifes as a mere puppet for someone

The phantom thieves still exist, so bad things are still happening. There will still be suffering since everyone will always doubt reality (as Jose mentioned) no matter how happy they are.

Persona 5's big mistake with the Royal month is that it uses all the usual hallmarks of "Illusion" stories, except that the characters are able to genuinely change reality. Nor do they address the overlapping realities as they could.

It still is an illusion though, like how the word cracks and Morgana returns to being a cat and the revived people return to being dead when they snap out of it

I rather choose this ending in all honesty. Since even if it's not true, its preferably better for everyone. The only way I could describe what's bad about this ending is that it represents the sin of Sloth
@tatsui8679

Better for everyone? No it's not, this is terrible. They are being forced to be happy, that's hell
@MettaKing
@MettaKing 3 года назад
@@tatsui8679 But they aren't forced to be happy, rather, they are given happiness by being given everything they wish for. Life may be dull if this is what the it becomes but I prefer it being dull than seeing other people suffer just for the sake of knowing the feeling of happiness through struggle
@tatsui8679
@tatsui8679 3 года назад
@@MettaKing no they are, look at Akechi for example, he is being forced to live in that reality against his will and to make things worse he rewrote everyone's cognition so they can be happy. They didn't choose to live in that reality, their cognition was being written.

Also by choosing this ending, you are basically condraticting all of what the gang did for most of the game

@@tatsui8679 Indeed, that is why I call it The Sloth ending. An ending in which happiness is given and sadness is taken

i know it’s a bad ending but…. god it hurts to know that they can’t be this happy in the true ending yknow? letting akechi stay alive, letting akira stay in the attic and having all of them end up in class together too? fuck it really does kill me.

shit this makes me feel bad of choosing true ending. im crying bc of goddamn akechi why cant he be just like shinjiro edit: i mean he kinda probably lives in true ending but like.. he's such a lonely character its awkwardly good to see him have a good time with a bunch of people

While this ending may seem "good", it's terrible because they lost their free will and are essentially puppets
