Saving Neglected Sourdough Starter

Same here. We had a pretty violent storm on the really warm day and then its back to freezing cold and rain. We were able to do a little garden prep. To be honest, I am not much into sourdough these last few years. I am all about enriched doughs like cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, etc.

I can totally believe it, Karen! You always had it in you since you are such a fabulous baker already. 😊🤗🧑‍🍳 Been there with the starters. Poor Marvin was totally neglected and I put him back in the fridge after filming this promising to make bread again. Not yet happened. 🤦🏻‍♀️ The puppy is full of energy. I haven’t been able to bake much at all in months! She’s a full time plus overtime job. 🫠🐶😄 Thankfully, Maggie and her have hit it off from day one and Raymond pretty much ignores both of them in his senior days until they are ready for naps. 💤😴 Glad to hear you are making lots of loaves of bread! I want to make some more bread videos but it seems between health and puppy, they will be slow. Hope all is well with you!

@@Jacksonsjob We're doing pretty good for old guys. lol looking forward to warmer days when we can get out more. I completely understand about the time consuming aspect of pets. Our little man Winston is the highest maintence dog we've ever had. I spend more time on his needs than my own, but we love him. He's what is known as a "Velcro dog". haha

@@karenbearden6198 LOL. The older I get, the more I understand why cold weather is not a fan of age. I feel like the tin man in the beginning of the wizard of oz in the mornings. haha. Winston and Roxanne has the velcro in common. Her breed is known for the same thing. She can run around for hours and hours before getting tired.

I knew a woman that would say "when someone comes to mind, you must act. Visit. If you can visit, write. If you can't write, call. If you can't call, pray." She's been long gone, but I never forgot that mentality. And here you are, doing very similar! I hope you are well, Neil! The neurologist started me on a new medication, so I am hopeful for days to come. In the meantime, I am plugging along slowly.

@@Jacksonsjob Well here’s a twist on that one. It is said that when we face challenges of any type be small or big. The universe conspires with our angels to help us. So sometimes just a kind word to a bent ear can go a long way.

@@Jacksonsjob i’m trying to wrap my head around this law that are trying to pass or have passed in Alabama that the embryo is a life and you could be guilty of murder if the embryo does not successfully fertilize. And I also heard another one that an embryo can be complicit in the crime if you get aborted. I was cracking an egg open on the frying pan making my breakfast mid week last week and I looked at it and well that’s an embryo. I spoke to it I waited for a reply and then none came…

Neil, just coming up from a migraine and seeing this. As much as I would love to voice my opinion on the American political system, I have found it would only alienate some of my viewers. This is something I would be devastated doing. I very rarely talk of politics in real life, either. I have found that our state has a history of being constantly pillaged and spat on by career politicians and rich folk that make their money off the suffering of others. And both sides are guilty of it. When I was growing up, you were taught not to speak of politics as it would only make enemies from friends. I’ve seen it happen first hand time and time again since the tragedy in 2001 and the drastic changes of people being elected into one of our two main parties. I will say that I am very disappointed that we let politicians on either side divide us as a nation to the point I don’t recognize where we live anymore. It deeply saddens me to see families torn apart from powerful people that ultimately care more about wealth and power than their constituents. The majority of Americans I do hear speak of politics are all disappointed in the fact there are no moderate politicians that represents what most people want and instead they seek to cater to select niches in the population instead.

If you have access to a fridge, store it in there between longer feedings. That will afford you the ability to go months and neglect your starter. Out of the refrigerator, it tends to get taken over by bad bacteria rather quickly as they love warmth.
