The other system you were talking about is onTrak by agricision and it’s a lot cheaper to buy new than a Trimble. We love ours and you don’t need a screen as it just runs in your phone or iPad which is part of the reason it’s so cheap. Having used both the agricision is easier to use as it’s out on the bonnet where you’re already looking however the Trimble will be more accurate and do more things as the onTrak only does straight A/B lines but that’s just what you pay for also no installation with the agricision system so can be moved to literally any tractor or even a quad

Ok I have this system with a few years. A few points 1. I use it mainly for fertilizer and spraying (90% and 10% respectively) 2. Mixed emotions on it tbh. She will take a few minutes to connect every time you turn off the ignition or power it down(even after updates). I just plan around that so that when I leave the yard I am switched on and then I’m not really waiting long after I’m through the gap. 3.The biggest issue by far I have with it is that in a few “special” paddocks for whatever reason it will go mad. By that I mean it just seems unable to get a good signal no matter the weather or conditions. What’s odd about is that many of our fields are surrounded by ditches but some of the open ones are the worst culprits. Spreading fertilizer at 19k revs(D2 in NH TM120)it is often just at the limit of its capability to keep a decent connection. That will mean 2 things….number 1: it will occasionally line up that though on screen you are driving along the correct guidance if you look at your previous track you will notice you are nearer that you should be just using eyeball and experience. This mostly happens after spreading the headland and just starting the up and downs, number 2 and by far the biggest pain of the entire system….if you turn at the headlands or just make a slightly sharp turn it will sometimes grow haywire for a few seconds and put completed tracks all around the on screen field at all sorts of odd angles. No way around that and I have no advice just to use experience and gut to carry on with the rest of that field as you can’t really go by the screen until you finish the field and reset it. 4. Someone else commented about screen placement more in front of you. Agree totally, there is enough going on spreading fertilizer that you should not be really looking to the side. Just my opinion on that.

Hi Adrian. Great video. I have the trimble 500 with a long long time. They're basically the same. See how you get on with the patch antenna first. To be honest the right antenna is an ag15. I have one on two different tractors. More accurate and reliable. If its going amber alot it will put you off and drive you crackers. However it will go amber under trees, on the road and inside farm buildings. They are a brilliant job though and you'll eventually totally rely on it. One tip. If spraying, enter the width of the sprayer correct, e.g 40ft, but then enter an overlap of say 12 or 20 inches. This way if you wobble a bit the yellow will show you that you still have it sprayed. No need to do that with the fertiser spreader. Also, headland on the menu will measure the field for you after you've completed the first round of the field. If you use A B it's perfect for guidance but just won't measure the field.. Message me on anything else but John at vantage is a good guy at all of the tips too I'm sure. Well wear and happy motoring with it. Ps it was cheap at that kind of money. A tonne of fertiser would be nearer the mark 😜. Regards Dave Flynn, Cork

Yes we did a video on our soil sampling last year, it’s something we do every other year and definitely very important. Our PH had dropped a little which we have hopeful rectified with the lime we spread last year, about 2 Tonne per acre over around 70% of the farm. Definitely could see the benefits this year from that. I don’t tend to use much if any urea but if i did it would definitely be a protected application with the weather patterns we now get.

GPS units need regular updates to refresh their Almanac which gives the unit a starting point to lock on to the GPS constellation and to discard "improbable" readings. Generic GPS patch antenna's should be fine to fit to other tractors.
@jix177
@jix177 2 года назад
Also just to keep in mind that a pinch or sharp bend in a coaxial cable can impair the signal strength, so you need to be careful how you route them. Though the software update was more likely the cause of your woes - in fact in April 2019 there was a GPS clock rollover which ended my 10 year old satnav at the time, so I'd imagine that the software version from 2009 would be impacted in some way too.

Trimbles are nice to follow compared to some other makes. Not inclined to be jumping all over the place. Don't get to hung up on trying to have the 3 green lights on the hole time. Once you have one or two you are very good. Also on ground thats uneven if the angle of the cab moves you will loose a light so just keep in the same line and she will come back again. On your headlands turn in when she's about 2.5m away from the next line you will be pretty much bang on, if you leave it to the last minute you will over shoot the line. Try pick your straightest headland to set up from. Even if there is a slight curve just mark up the a,b points from either end and you will be straight on the next run. The curved a,b line is a balls to drive to so wouldn't bother with it.

God Adrian I had a great laugh when I saw this video , we bought a 6715 last year and we got a Trimble system for it last week , I was thinking about installing it this afternoon , basically we got it because we bought a new fert spreader because our old one was as they say goosed and with the cost etc. It made sense to have some bit of gps but like you we didn't need the auto steer and all the bells and whistles so we just got a big basic gps system off a newholland dealer locally ( probably the exact same as yours as case IH and newholland almost interchangeable ) , hope it will be a help for fert spraying and mowing , time will tell , cost about the price of a ton of can so you got it cheaper than us we were nervous about buying it on the net just because we would rather have a bit of backup if we had problems , felt like shouting snap when I saw the box! We have been doing a lot of reseeding over the last few years and if you don't mind me saying I wonder if that first silage field you showed wouldn't pay for a bit of a freshen up , the modern grasses are so far ahead of what you could get even 10 or 15 years ago you could increase productivity by 25 to 30 percent by just reseeding.
@IFarmWeFarm
@IFarmWeFarm 2 года назад
So that big hill used to be in two separate plots, the top part you would of seen in the background when I was talking about the lime needs to be reseeded as it’s got patchy for sure. I had planned to get it done last fall but it just got put on the back foot. Unfortunate this year with these new derogation rules we can only plough between the 1st of March and the 31th of May which made it very difficult to get silage ground reseeded this year. ( late cut ) Next year it will be done straight after the first cut is lifted for sure. Thanks mate

We mentioned back on other videos the reasoning we picked that site when we were building it. Never a drop of rain gets near the feeding barrier. The wind that’s affecting the calves was coming from the north so that’s why they have great shelter in that corner. It’s unusual weather for July. Well spotted though John, my editing fingers missed that one 🤣. Cheers 👍

Hello Adrian, love watching your vlog’s. Have you tried Kurust? It’s made by the same people who make Hammerite. We have had good results on our forage harvest.

Badland antenna (or similar) might be able to help. I don't see why any gos system manufacturer would use an antenna that's unique to them. It'd probably be a matter of matching specifications. I've no idea about cost though, but I'm guessing GPS system manufacturers will charge more, possibly like buying car parts from a main dealer....

There’s an upgrade for this antenna which would be a lot more accurate, but last time I checked it was around €500. So hopefully this will work out ok 🤞🤞

the 5460's fuel gauge was dancing a fair jig, is that being caused by the fuel sloshing around in tank or is it something to do with the electrical side ?

Yip it loves to dance about, the 6470 we had done the same. It’s just the way they are with the movement in the tank. As long as it’s moving upwards the odd time i’m happy 🤣

A bag to the acre is 50kg to the acre. I think it was straight nitrogen no p or k.
