I had a pet skunk, Jake, when it was still legal! Those kits are adorable! A couple kits look like “hooded” skunks, they have one wide white strip rather than 2. My Jake was a hooded skunk. They actually like us, why they make ‘homes’ under our porches etc. They’re very nearsighted, can’t see us well so they feel threatened if we move too fast and spray. They twist their body’s into a U shape when they spray and never miss! I had a Mom and her kits living under a house I rented for months. I didn’t bother her, she never sprayed! When her kits were old enough they all moved. She just wanted a place a bit isolated to have and raise her baby’s.

Cindy Witter but to have one as a pet dont you have to "fix" them and cut into them and remove their spray sac? seems like theres better pets out there that dont require unessecary mutilation to keep as pets right?

Sal it’s illegal now because they can be such high carriers of rabies. This was back in the 70’s you could still buy one for a pet. Their scent sacs were either removed or tied off. He was a cool little guy but today I’m a firm believer that wild should stay wild 😊

Skunks really are adorable. Thank you for letting us know what ended up being the result! Ive had a skunk come right up to me at the campground while we were at threw picnic table. Felt somthing on my leg but didn't pay any attention because i thought it was just my mom moving her feet, then out of the corner of my eye i see somthing moving and the same time my girl friend was like "umm..." lol so i looked an here's this skunk climbing into the bench part of the table next to me from underneath lol like hey what you got up here that smells good lol... it was eating potato chips right out of my hand like you'd hand them to a dog. It was amazing. I didn't touch it because i didn't want to push it, but i probably could have. We gave him a mix of different stuff on a plate over to the edge of our camp site and he came back a few other times to see us.

What a cool story. I think they realize and can tell when people have a good heart. My hubby was soaking in our spa late one night and heard a soft noise. He looked down and a skunk was casually walking by sniffing along the way. Hubby sat perfectly still and watched the skunk waddle off until he was far enough away. At that point, who even cares if they spray. It would be a hassle but worth it in a way. Luckily no spray was involved and our dog and cats were inside. He was a bold little night critter.

I agree, that's the 2nd time they've missed a baby or two. I think what happened is they figured mom was ok with her last check, but they were probably too close for her to feel comfortable enough to go and retrieve the others. But yeah, they should be 100 thorough when checking for more babies. Cause sometimes like in this case mom might be too scared to go get the rest.

People live in THE SKUNK'S territory. It's us who need to learn to live with wildlife. They'll still be around long after we're gone, so there's no need to harm them. No sense in killing them, plus they have some protection under Canadian laws and have an ecological role to play. I feel it would be helpful to include tips on coexisting. If possible, I'd wait a week or so before replacing the deck. As you said, when the babies are old enough to follow mom, she will lead them to alternate den sites, then hardware cloth wire mesh can be installed. Baby season is a bad time to do disruptive renovations.

Cat G: In England they are very popular domestic pets, and British law prevents de-scenting, but there is no problem. They cuddle with you at night, and play with you during the day. What more can one ask? They also love other pets to play with.

Lets remove your nails. Sand down your teeth. Pluck holes in your butt and cut in to your body so they can fix you so your pee doesnt smells bad to them. Then you will make a perfect pet for an alien! :D ....If an animal requires to be tortured so he can become your plaything then its probably not meant to be a pet. Its great its illegal to own them anymore at least in the US. Yet somehow other idiots are still allowed to own tigers and things...

@@hipocampelofantocame Dont they stink the house? o.o And/or spray when startled either by people or other pets?

@@benjamindeh873: I have dealt with skunks for years and never been sprayed. You're dealing with common misunderstandings. Many folks in Britain have skunks (not unscented by law) indoors and even have sunk social clubs. No problems; just don't attack one.

A baby skunk took up residence at my house when I was a kid. He ate with the cats outside. At one point when I let my cat in he/she tried to follow. Uhhh.NOPE

So stinking cute. What age do that start spraying? Love seeing moms love their babies!

Happy Survivor they can start spraying at 10 weeks old! Some have started spraying before their eyes open! They actually like us, why they’ll make a nest under our porches, etc. They’re extremely nearsighted which is why it doesn’t take much to make them spray. I had a Mom and her kits under my house for a few months. Mom knew when I was outside and we left each other alone! I’d see her now and then with her baby’s, so adorable! They moved on when the baby’s were old enough.

I just found your program I love it and how careful you are not to stress or hurt the animals, also the info you give the homeowners like don’t use cushions where animals have been due to diseases and bacteria.

I'm so addicted to watching these videos, lol. I've been watching the babies of various Animals being transported to new den sites all day. Never even been to Canada.

How am I supposed to get up and start my day when I have come across these videos?! All I want to do now is lie in bed and fall down the youtube rabbit hole! Remember the days when we had to get out of bed to “surf the net”? Not an issue anymore thanks to smart phones and tablets!

I want to just say that your camera person and you all do an incredible job of getting really great shots, so many of these programs you end up seeing more of the back sides , backs of heads , everything but what viewers want to see.
