Lol why do the dunes they show have like up and downs I've been to almost all the dunes in Oregon and none of them looked like the one they showed first
Yes most of vid is true- When you find out EVERY tree between 101 and ocean in Oregon is not natural was planted or offspring of a planted tree your mind is blown. I was a camp host at S Jetty for a short while- I asked my FS boss, how could we mitigate the loss of dunes, she looked at me with disbelief when I suggested we cut down all trees! Grass Trees all removed- not gonna happen- Thanks for a feel good, but full of false hope video- All grass and trees planted from 1905 (their offspring also) until Today 100 yards east of 101 all the way to high tide mark 😳 should be removed to save dunes - I support this 100% bring it back natural 👏
This group of people has been restoring the dunes and HAS been making it happen. It's not false hope when people are already doing it. Making it all 100% natural is very hard to imagine, but they are helping prevent more loss from happening. That's why they have the 3 pronged approach at 5:03
If they were smart they would have done it earlier. Dunes will function as wetlands and wildlife habitats if we keep them vegetated, nothing but desert without vegetation.
@@danieledrich6602 The Oregon Dunes area is a wildlife habitat for some very special and specifically adapted plants and animals living on the sand. Just because we as humans don't value sand or desert as "valuable" for our "use" doesn't mean that it's not important to exist. This dune ecosystem is one of a kind and hopefully won't be lost because of human ignorance.
What malarkey! Our experience with removing beach grass has been a nightmare, wildlife disappeared, wetlands no longer functioned, stability was destroyed along with the habitat. Dunes when vegetated will function as wetlands and a Carbon sink, otherwise they are just deserts.
Removing invasive species is a nightmare and a good lesson on why not to introduce them to start with. While sand dunes don't act as a carbon sink, they do provide many more benefits. This dunes ecosystem is one of a kind providing a home to plants and animals that can't exist anywhere else. The "Dune" books and movies were inspired by the Oregon Dunes also which should be reason enough to say they provide value!
