My son has been there, and I have an old photo of it being built, along with a couple of original photos of King Ludwig II.

I would love to visit it one day. I'd like to learn more about the foundation of the castle on that high cliff and how the restoration team repaired the underpinnings.

I love the commentators voice and use of the English language- not something you hear in todays hip hop rap world. The castle isn’t bad either unless you are the cleaning lady.

I feel obliged to commend the script writer of this channel for their exuberant use of this colorful language which garners several chuckles of delight from me in each episode. Keep it up - Jayson, Tulbagh, South Africa

I was at Neuschwanstein in 1977 - it was, and truly still to this day my idea of a dream fairy castle. My father was in the military and we were in German from late 1975 through 1978; it became a tradition that every weekend he wasn't working, that the family (Mom and Dad, my older brother and I) would visit every castle in Germany that we could. Back then, there used to be a book called "20,000 Castles in Germany" - it was our family wish to see every single one we could that was conceivably reached in a weekend and before we left. I remember when we got to the base of Neuschwanstein you had two ways to get there - either walk up to the Castle (long trip up the mountain) or they had carriages for a price. My father decided that we would walk - and we did... wow! I didn't think (at that age) I could get tired of walking! But my memories of the time centered on one thing - the walkway up to the castle was quite busy, and an old man was coming down opposite us. He heard us speaking English, came over to us, muttered in German and then spit on me. He made some derisive comment about Americans (remember, this was only 30 years after WWII) and then started back down. My father grabbed him, and well - needless to say, nobody got seriously hurt; however, it was something was indelibly imprinted on my mind. I am so glad to see the castle is going through restoration - even back then, there were many areas that were not available to view. For instance, Ludwig (with a nod toward his sexuality) incorporated a "Turkish Bath" in the castle; that had deteriorated so much visitors weren't allowed. Many of his innovations in the kitchens and dining rooms were off limits. I do remember though his bed chamber which was only fleetingly shown in this video - it took almost four years for Master Artisans to hand carve and craft what would have been his bed - a nod to his overindulgence. The only thing that wasn't completed for the Castle - Ludwig's throne. The Throne Room is magnificent and featured several times in this video (as well as the top floor ballroom) - but the only thing missing from the Throne Room was an actual throne. All in all, a very good video covering the castle - but I would have rather seen one that went into depth of the innovations of the castle, the tragedy of Ludwig II or even more on it's architecture; even more on the (barely mentioned) "Mary's Bridge" ("Marienbrücke") - that was a very scary and amazing innovation in itself rebuilt under Ludwig II! I look forward in my older years to going back and seeing the fairy-tale as an adult; will it match my memories? Probably not... but will more than likely exceed them! RBS

Neuschwanstein was the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland in California. All other castles were inspired by Disneyland’s castle as Walt Disney was no longer alive by the time his next park, Disney World, was developed. The only park he was interested in post Disneyland was Epcot, a non-castle park. And even then Walt Disney was envisioning a city and not a theme park.

I have been captivated by this beautiful and amazing castle since I first saw a photo of it many years ago. I have done a jigsaw puzzle with its image. I have read a book about Ludwig II of Bavaria to learn more about its origins. It is my dream to visit it someday.

Great photo's in this documentary, but the narration is really not up to the task with any comparison of this pinnacle of historic & legendary accomplishment of architecture and engineering to any " Imaginary fantasy by a " Walt Disney" / Fake castle, very poor taste & insulting.

It is awful how the Nazi’s stole a lot of expensive art pieces , jewelry and other priceless items from many during the war . They are still recovering much of these stolen pieces even today and returning to their rightful families where they had been pilfered. I’m glad these people who were so violated by Hitler’s army haven’t been forgotten. 😊❤
