If I were starting over and chasing a degree in, say, marketing, I'd try to figure out a way to study the effect RU-vidrs like Legend have on video games. How many people does he "hook again"? This guy is gold to the Total War franchise.

I'm not 100% but I think in his Blitz campaign he only hired mercs

In RTW2 with Carthage and the right tech upgrades it's quite cheap and awesome doing a merc only playthrough

I was always felt displeasure at the fact Total War hasn't gone fully into that era, but as best described by yourself, it would not be palatable for many. I've always needed to get my fix from ether prolonging a campaign into late game Medieval, or trying to savor what's left at the very beginning of Empire Total War.

there´s also a mod called 1648 Total War which covers the Thirty Years War. But it seems to be made by Germans and as such much of it is in German (things like Documentarys as Video messages) but if i recall it right you should be able to play it if you ignore most of the historical informations.

Even for experienced players thats a tough task at this stage of the game because there are stacks everywhere

Worst case he put time into making a disaster happen because he did play otherwise he never had armies with 9xp units and his rankings never really changed.

If you play on Very Hard and stay this small and weak this is what your campaign looks like after 20-40 turns, AI always dogpiles the weakest guy on the block. You may not have seen it happen before because it's a pretty easy game and you are ahead of all AI by 20 turns (I usually am myself).

Restart and rush explosive shells (the first naval tec iirc), one of the strongest techs in the game. With that you can win naval battles fairly easily in early-mid game.

The only game I can think of that rewards "turtling" in anyway is 7 Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries and turtling in that game in my opinion refers to relocating the villages you capture back to a central area so you can defend your villages and weapons factories a lot easier. It also means you don't need as many troops to defend your stuff as well since the computer tends to spread out so enemy attacks tend to only include forces from one area at a time or multiple forces from different areas that will arrive in waves. As a result a concentrated force will either have a numerical edge in a battle or have the ability to weaken one wave of troops heavily or even completely before the next part of the attack wave hits. In fact, the only time turtling in a more traditional sense works in that game is if your playing on a sea map and your the only kingdom on your island either via your starting position or because you relocated to an island not inhabited by a computer controlled kingdom. After all, the player can use their knowledge of the tech tree to quickly research cannon equipped ships and blow up enemy ports. After all, you don't have to worry about being able to effectively defeat your enemies if you can ensure they'll never be able to reach you in the first place.

I think if you attempted to verify this yourself you'll find it correct. 85% but go for 86% just to be safe because sometimes you've killed 84.9% but it rounds up. The individual unit doesn't matter. I've had whole units of cav run away without taking a single casualty but get wiped out because every infantryman in the army got captured and executed afterwards. The only exception is that if the army is commanded by a proper general, as in not a captain, you have to kill that general as well. If you don't kill him then even if you get 99% kills the army will still survive, unless retreat is impossible for them. This theory has worked time and time again for me without ever failing.

@@LegendofTotalWar It might just be for Empire/Napoleon then as I'm sure in both of those games I can recall a single unit getting away resulting in endless pillaging campaigns by said unit.

Not all total war games use the same annihilation conditions. Could have agreed with you right away if you mentioned Empire/Napoleon. 85% numbers is just for Rome 1 and Medieval 2.
