Wow. These early battles are absolute textbook guerrilla tactics. Damn Legend, I've learned a shit ton watching your battle tactics, and I've been integrating quite a few (dodging rocks in particular, which work well enough in Rome/Attilla but is almost unfair in Warhammer with a lone hero on a mount, as well as some of those castle defense shenanigans in Shogun 2 where you lead half the army on a chase first) into my repertoire of tricks and tactics. So at this point I'll never be able to send you a disaster campaign! You're teaching me too well an killing your future episode possibilities! That said regarding your poll: while you obviously have campaign strats too, I find the most enjoyable and educational bits of your videos to be the battles, so I guess I would prefer you play disasters that have a high chance of battles occurring, rather than relying on auto-resolve spam with stacks of trash units so you can buy time sorting out a bad economic/diplomatic situation.

The pool has a bit of a worthless point - Cause a even greater challenge would make it enjoyable to watch hehe But i dont see problems on repeating factions, so the rest i think work together, enjoying a harder challenge :D

I know he doesn't give much for items and followers (although I think it's kinda weird when those things have about as much impact as skills and tech), but it's amusing when he says he NEEDS those horse archers and then doesn't equip something that buffs them :-)

You can shift your disaster series to other games, paradox games for instance.

The whole him being at war with everyone thing might not be his fault, I started a new Hun campaign not to long ago and by turn 15-20 everyone declared war on me , they go for peace after you kill a few factions

The reason you didn't have any movement on your first turn was that the agents movement got cancelled, and he was in the army. If you had disbanded the agent you would have been able to move. Apparently if one person can't move it stops the entier army. Edit: I see you figured that one out a bit down the road.

Legend your battle tactics in your first battle was very simillar to the tacticts that Huns used. I'm wondering if you're studying history or archeology or anything about the classical world, because your knowledge seems to be pretty good

I wish I could say a mix of 2 and three. I lean more heavily in three, but when it becomes crazy easy, maybe not only that; unless for some other reason it still becomes very very very interesting. I guess it is to say, easiness vs hardness is actually an interesting factor in it's own right. But we do prefer interesting ones I think here.

Hey Legend! I'm sure you are aware of this but in case you don't. For me the main reason I don't really watch a lot of your videos is because they are too long. Especially considering what's in them. Saving Your Disaster series was something new. And most of them have more action (manual resolve, more strategizing etc..) so the video length didn't matter. But just like you said, things gets old at some point. So my not helpful at all advice is to have shorter videos and more variety. For me personally, I would watch any game that has strategizing or problem solving. I think they would be enjoyable with your commentary. Another thing is to maybe do polls to more understand what your viewers want. Anyways, good luck!

You may want ask a couple people to review the campaigns. Having a couple people saying if its interesting or boring could save alot of time and allow you to enjoy them far more.

Do it if you think we'll enjoy them. Though you should probably cover the same faction if its a different or harder situation.

Honestly, the only thing making these campaigns boring, is there's too much auto resolve. Even the Medieval 2 saves, in my opinion, haven't been fun to watch, because they might as well be auto resolve when it's just "Take these 5 generals and kill their entire army with next to no losses." It's more fun to me, to see actual fighting. For example, in your 100k sub videos, you have fights you could win if you just fought them, decided to just auto resolve and lose a city. If I'm going to watch a total war video, I'd like to see actual fighting like in this video. Really don't care what game it is, what faction or if you've done it. I just want to be entertained and auto resolving EVERY fight is not worth watching.

my input is, a little bit of backstory at the beginning in some campaigns. But that is just me, It would be nice if the people in the e-mail would have told you what has happened.

to be honest i usually just watch med2 and rome 1 disasters. the autoresolve spam tactics required to do well in rome 2 aren’t very interesting.

TBH I enjoy your disaster campaign series regardless of the faction you play, i only dislike your vids when you autoresolve entirely thru the whole video, I watch for the battles. Watching your vids have helped me improve my style of play, you really are kind of a legend when it comes to these games, however if i wanted to see map games i would watch a ck2 or eu4 campaign. Please take that into consideration for future videos, and thank you for the hours of entertainment you have provided me!

I did vote but I'd say just trying to spread disaster videos out, a little more might be helpful? I mean too much of a good thing is going to make anything seem a bit dull right? Just a thought.

Maybe don't do same faction twice in a month, then it would be still interesting. Maybe just play only the ones you want to play the most, because if you enjoy making a video more, then I guarantee you that it would be much more fun to watch. Sometimes many people don't care as much about the games you play, but about your commentary, there ain't a lot of edgy military genius Australians out there on yt.

Just a cheese tip Legend, if you are able to you want to put your army into raiding stance BEFORE razing the settlement (it actually safekeeps the mouvement points which is beyond useful imho)

Are Medieval campaigns accepted or those are too old?:D To this day I recall that greatest mistake was turtling and building up and thus allowing AI to snowball and then it proceeded to doomstack you with 5-6 chips of full stacks. Endless reinforcement, inability to autoresolve and damn timer that was giving you limited time to beat them back if things were going bad. Though using organ guns through closed portcullis gates was great:D No rams, towers or ladders back then, either infantry takes down the gate or wooden wall or hope that your arty can crush stone in enough places.

I once played a medieval campaign as France and I really tried to play it well, but the AI was just throwing stacks at me. I was beating back the Spanish and English, made alliance with Germany and some Italians. Bam Germany betrays me and immediately starts conquering northern France while my armies are fighting in the south and in Bretagne. Shortly after that Portuguese and Italian factions also decided to join in on the fun and everyone converged on me. I got wrecked and had to quit because I couldn't win. I don't think I have the save anymore sadly but I think it could have been a challenge for you.

Its possible that you notice a decline in views dependent on which game is being played, some games being more popular than others?

I think the problem with the "Saving Your Disaster" campaigns is when does it end ? how fucked can we recover from ? I started watching a few weeks ago when you saved campaigns with one or two settlements. Now its like can we save this campaign with 1 man left in a unit of eastern spearmen against 3 full armies. Don't get me wrong i enjoy the series but you can only milk a cow so much before it dies.

Honestly, as long as you enjoy playing the game and making the video, I'm good with whatever. I just discovered this channel about a week or 2 ago from this series, and I think it's really great. With some of the comments you have about Rome 2 and stagnation and such (and I agree), I feel like it's best that you play what you enjoy. If that means less Attila and more Medieval, that's good with me.

Personally I find the hour plus episode format a bit daunting, 30ish mins at a time I can easily watch basically every time the notification comes up. Just my 2 cents, love the content 🤙🤙

I’m not so big on the Rome 1 episodes there are too few factions and it’s just not as Intresting to watch. Ur medieval ones are DAMN good

Maybe add stipulations for each disaster. Example one campaign you try to save using only diplomacy, another only naval battles/raids. Make it even harder for you. Maybe try not using cavalry or melee units and only artillery and missile units or the other way around.

I can only comment for my self but when it comes to Total War videos I watch them for the real time battles. I understand that people auto resolve out of not liking the battles or just saving time, but me personally would then rather watch/play something else.

Legend: So I have to save this campaign. First step, SACRIFICE.

You could just do Disaster battles, special scenarios and things like that. Someone simply has a specific situation that needs some of that "legend" input, a campaign that is going well but has a fucked situation. You could do a couple of battles from a wide range of games and post it as a total war cocktail.

While I love these disasters I think that momentum is gone. IMHO you should now focus more on let's play. Fots and dei are great and once VC is out, you should do one on it

I have been watching you on and off for years now but this disaster campaign series is what brought me back full time. I understand though that it might be getting bland for some people. Perhaps think of a new twist or condition to spice things up a bit.

I tend not to watch any videos that are about campaigns that are post Shogun 2, just personal taste, I don't like playing them and thus don't like videos about them either.

Rome 2 disaster campaigns are being the least fun so far because of constant auto-resolving. I'd murder for more rise of samurai / fall of samurai / warhammer disaster campaigns

The best part of any video are the battles. Auto resolving for 2 hours straight gets stale.

Creative Assembly needs to step up their next TW game just for the sole purpose of giving Legend a decent challenge.

do a series where you blitz through with a shit faction and with each video try to beat your previous time

tbh I dont think it has much to do with the faction, but rather the situation of the screw up. However, in each game there are only so many ways to screw up, and so many ways to unscrew it. I think the few that have been getting boring to me are the ones on the newer Total War engine. It is probably to due with the diplomacy tbh. Because you will fix the situation and turn it around but have to spend another 2 episodes to stabilize, and by that i mean get strong enough to convince people to sue for peace or take bribes.

Hmm, you getting demonetised temporarily, Legend? Last time I started seeing extra long unskippable ads on a channel I was told that was the case. Twice now you've had ads almost 11 mins long. OK, worst I've seen on other channels is 90 mins long but 5-40 min more common and seems to correspond with YT bots being YT bots. Needless to say, couple of mins about my limit to not refresh it away so saves time to whitelist channels I think deserve it.

You keep saying you don't particularly like fighting battles in Rome 2/Attila but as a viewer and fellow single player, it's fascinating to watch you take on those against-the odds manual battles. As a player, I have learned a lot from those.

imo, do the ones you'll enjoy, do the ones you think we'll enjoy. If you have a shit ton of the same faction/game then move those emails or save files you downloaded to a "rainy day" folder. Got another Byzantine med 2 disaster for the 100th time? put it aside and bust it out once you've put a few disasters from a different game or w/e in between. I know you want to get these files back to people in a timely manner but as you said, logistically its all pretty fubar at this point. Establish a committed plan where if you record saving a disaster but don't want to post it yet, you send the save back anyway. or make a list in notepad or w/e and keep track that way to send an email once the video has been posted. I know this can add more work but I think your content will be better as a result.

19:14 We have community conflicts like that in the Airships: Conquer the Skies community. "Why micro when you have a better, stronger force than your opponent?" And yeah, it really boils down to trying to preserve unit count for as long as possible (although instead of 300 or 3000 it might just be 3, since it's a vehicle-oriented game) and not tanking what you don't need to because you can't regain lost rooms without returning to a specific, pre-generated city type to repair. This issue isn't in most multiplayer matches since they're rarely campaigns, so all fights start with all units at perfect health and balanced around a preset currency value. Glad to know it's normal to have those sorts of "quality of control versus quality of preparation" disputes in communities.

Been really enjoying the series, but I've actually been skipping some of the Rome II ones. Might just be cos I played too much of that one. Really enjoyed the Rome 1 and BI games especially. Edit: using the multi retreat "bug" was absolutely inspired. Ai use it all the time too, so I say that's fair game

I read an argument about the Huns a while back that they are actually one of the best infantry civilization in Attila. Like, they have elite archers and heavy infantry pretty early on that barely another factions have. The Hunnic Spears are heavy spearman comparable to Roman mid tier spears but are availible from the get-go. I tried a campaign with them and it works just as well in campaign as it does online. Pretty sexy versatility that the Huns have got really. Personally, with mods, I like how it can be played anyway ya want.

legend, i can totally feel you with those comments on being arrogant...you're arrogant towards AI so it's not bad at all...but taking it out on real people is a different thing

I don't think this campaign series will get old and boring so soon, due to the concept of the idea itself - most of the campaigns are different, being played by different players. Most of them are very unique. As for the vote - Playing the same faction more than once should not be a criteria or a deciding factor - the particularities should be the ones that should decide it. Is it very similar to what I've already done with this faction? Is the faction in a similar position? Can I use a different strategy or do I have to use the same due to the difficulty (i.e - autoresolve)?. I don't mind watching another Getae disaster in general. Do I mind watching another Getae disaster save with an autoresolve strategy? Yes. If battles would have been played in the first one, would I mind to watch another one that also involves battles? Probably yes, but you could do them and upload later. Would I mind watching a Getae disaster very late in the game, with an uber faction leader lost somewhere in Baktria? Fuck no.

If you are still enjoying the campaigns then keep doing them. Each one is slightly different. I’ll keep watching as I love the concept and love your style of play. I get good tips too.
