I also have the Savotta FDF mat and when I purchased it I never intended to use it alone. I use mine as a deluxe ground sheet to protect my air mattress, add insulation from the ground, protect from moisture when tarp camping and when using a tent, protect my tent floor. 👍🏼

That’s exactly what my intentions for it were. I wanted to extend the use of my air mat at the time (from 3 seasons to 4) and to protect it from any sharp items. For that it’s perfect. All the best 😊🏕️👍🏼

The savotta mat is my favorite, I slept on this mat for 26 nights and still testing it out. I am extremely happy with it. 😎

Oh wow you have given it a good test. I’ve only had 5 nights on it, but I’m very happy with it. The quality is fantastic. I hope your future testing goes well 😊👍🏼 All the best 😊🏕️

@@GreeklishOutdoors Yes I'm going to try it this winter without any pine or hemlock under it. Just want to see if it can be used around negative 10 just by itself.😎

@CraigVanDusenOutdoorAdventures I have similar plans. I’m just waiting for the insects to die off for the winter. I’m sure it will be ok. If it’s good enough for the Finnish military 🇫🇮 on the snow ❄️ I’m sure it will be fine. Have a great evening 😊👍🏼

If I didnt have the NATO mat and a ul80, I'd invest in this. $AU120 is a bit steep but it looks quality. I hope its still available if the other two fail. Good review. 👍🇦🇺

It is a great mat, but I understand it is a bit pricey. I use mine in combination with an air mattress for extra comfort (similar to your setup). I hope yours works well for you. Thanks very much. Have a great day 😊👍🏼✊🏼

Looks like a nice piece and you made a good video about it. However the weight is killing it for me. To be fair my comfort requirements are quite low and the robens zigzag is great for me. When travelling without a tent, I use it in combination with the moisture protection pad of the german military and a HelikonTex Tarp. I usually just put the tarp over my bike and then anchor it to the ground.

Thanks very much 😊👍🏼 Yep I can understand about the weight, especially if you are camping light with minimal gear. The Robens zig-zig is a good mat too. I just wanted something with the moisture protection built in. All the best 👍🏼😊

03:43 if you go to the Page of this Mat on the Savotta Store, they have a Video there on how to "use the mat properly" where they state that while the FDF's tells you to use it as you say, Savotta prefers it the other Way around, and the "official" Stance of them is that it doesnt matter which Side you go with. Kinda funny, because its their usual manner of not taking themselves too serious.

Thanks very much Trev. Yeah it is a bit bulky. Not sure I’d want to carry it on a long trip by foot. Have a great weekend! All the best Jono 😊👍🏼

I wish I had one of those available to me back in the 80s and 90s when I would spend 2 3 Or 4 weeks traveling around the United States on my motorcycle and camping at various places I think I still have a few rocks or sticks someplace on my body ( i’m not saying I have a stick up my butt )
@GreeklishOutdoors
@GreeklishOutdoors 9 месяцев назад
Yes it would have been perfect for travelling around. No rocks and sticks poking you with one of these 😂👍🏼

I'm pretty sure that FDF comes from the words Finnish Defense Forces. I could be wrong too, but I don't think I am.

@@GreeklishOutdoors When I myself served there in 80's, we had folding sleeping pads, but they also had such widening parts.
@GreeklishOutdoors
@GreeklishOutdoors 9 месяцев назад
@YTmfos Ah ok cool. Were the ones you had similar to the German military’s folding mat? I got one of those recently, but it’s pretty thin.

Looked alright but air mats take less space.
@GreeklishOutdoors
@GreeklishOutdoors 9 месяцев назад
Yep very true, especially these days. I’ll take this places that would destroy an air mat. 😊👍🏼

Air mats suck balls.
@GreeklishOutdoors

If you’re on spikey ground they can let you down. But they are so much more comfortable than a piece of foam 😬
@nickthenoodle9206
@nickthenoodle9206 9 месяцев назад
True. I had foam when I was in the army. Not the best, but better than nothing. When I go camping, it's more about the bulk than the weight imho.@@GreeklishOutdoors
@GreeklishOutdoors
@GreeklishOutdoors 9 месяцев назад
Yep I can understand that. It definitely won’t go in my rucksack. I have a hybrid mat by Robens, which has foam but also inflates. It’s very comfortable and warm in winter, but again quite bulky.
