It should fit inside or under the lid just fine. I usually carry water inside pack and then a canteen on my hip for easy access. Lot of guys strap a water bottle on outside or even use the D ring on shoulder strap to clip one on the front.
↟↟Awesome backpack Jess💪🏻😎👍🏻 Good choice🔥 This is the stuff l gonna have one day for my Bushcraft adventures & Survival😏 Thanks for the video Bro and stay safe✊🏻🐺🐾
Thanks! I think it should fit fine. I am 190cm and it is not maxed out on me. There is good adjustment on the pack. I would send SAVOTTA an email and ask what they think just to be sure. It is really great pack. It takes a little time getting to know it and breaking it in, but it is one of the best I have ever used. The carrying system is exceptional.
I have a bit of food on the belt for use on trail or as bait for traps. The main pack has food storer in a yellow dry bag. I carry a kettle or larger pot, and fill that with food and spices to take advantage of the space. Clothing, I have socks, puffy jacket, hat and gloves in belt rig. In the main pack, I have a dry bag with pants, jacket, underwear, socks and thermals. Extra socks can be stored in ziplock bags at top of bag or in an outside pocket for more efficient access.
It's just incredible what beauty, what atmosphere you were able to create. This is truly a meditative experience watching you. I myself started making videos about my adventures in bushcraft, so I'm interested in everything. Grretings from Belarus tourist. ✌️
Hey Jess, great video. I just got myself that same backpack, but in green. I was wondering what kind of buttpack you are using. I couldnt find it in the description. It looks really sturdy. Thanks and cheers from Germany, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Hey Martin! Thanks my friend. Congratulations on the backpack. It is one of my favorites. The buttpack is Russian. I think it is a bit older generation than what they are currently using on the SMERSH LBE. I got it from www.russiancoldcamo.com Cheers 🤝
@@EnduranceRoom Thanks, Mate! Just had a look at them and they seem really large. I will try to find one here where I live. Cheers my friend and all the best, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
I just ordered the m version 30L. I was unsure on what to buy as Im new to it all and there's so many to choose from. This video helped big time. Thanks for making the vid👍
@@EnduranceRoom I squeezed in all my gear , worked out great , but I need more testing I think. I do like my comfort when I'm out, and I couldn't fit my pillow, no video up yet but it's coming soon
Hope you and the family are well mate. I have a the Savotta Torrakko 2.5, and the LJK 202 daypack which I use on a daily basis going to and back from work, along with 2 large sustainment pouches which I purchased at the back end of last year (I use them on my alice pack). The bags are a few years old now and still look new. A testament of the quality that you hear from everyone that owns any savotta products. I have always wanted a Jääkäri L, but I still love alice ❤️
Thanks Will! We are doing good. Appreciate it. Hope you and yours are doing well also. The quality of the Savotta gear really is a step above and beyond. Reminds me of the quality you see in things from 100 years ago, with modern touches. ALICE is amazing.
Great review, i got the L in green couple weeks ago, love it. Will get sidepouches from savotta so i can get quick access to stuff that i use much, because it is little annoying that u have to open the rolltop. But i knew this from the begining, sidepouches will solve this problem. Cheers from sweden
Thanks! There is a surprising amount of room in the the lid pocket. I added my canteen onto the hip belt, with everything else inside the bag. The lid has my saw, hat, gloves, socks, & first aid.
Great to see you brother! That's an amazing backpack .. you were able to fit major essentials and then some into it and I really like the hydration bladder setup. The utility harness was great too and by looking at how you were walking through the woods, it all looked comfortable and allowed you good mobility. A backpack like that is a one time investment! 🤙🤝🤙
Hey brother! Thank you. It really is quality made gear. The guys at Savotta packed a smaller pack with bricks and sent sailing off a trebuchet a couple hundred yards. The pack was barely scuffed up. Its refreshing to see things crafted with skill, that has longevity in mind, rather than the planned obsolescence we so often see today. Have a good one! 🤝
I'm your size ... around 192cm. How the heck do you fit on that tiny sleeping pad??? I mean I understand it's use case but for our hight it seems way to short and not wide enough. Please explain yourself, young man ;-)
Cheers mate I've had the same pack for a year now and love it. You have good gear taste and your videos are a good watch. If you see this then I wonder if you still use this pack with a belt rig? I am tempted to start tinkering in the same way
@@joshhoppring5051 Hey! Absolutely awesome pack. I have an ASKARE hip pack that I favor now over the LBE style belt setup. It can be worn underneath a small or medium size pack. On a larger pack like the L, it can be attached to the back of the pack or stashed inside. It’s a great option as both extra storage and as a lightweight EDC bag after you establish camp and remove the larger ruck. Cheers
I use this backpack and one in olive mainly in the summer. The Savotta mat is of course a thousand times better than that of the German Army in terms of comfort. 😅 Happy Easter
Nice video. I own jääkäri m. I been able to pack my carinthia observer plus bivy, same sleeping pad that you have, carinthia tropen, hellsport fjellduken and bundeswehr groundsheet + food and clothes etc for about two days. I only use savotta 2 liter vertical pouches on both sides. Its somewhat comfortable when i have all of these packed in it, its full but still not too full. Could i fit like 4 days worth of gear on this bag since its twice the size of M?
Thank you. 4 or more days shouldn’t be a problem in the L, especially in warmer weather. It can be overpacked expanding vertically, allowing for pretty significant loads. The carrying system is excellent. Cheers
Great review man, got one recently. I can't figure out which way the metal frame is meant to be back in though. I have the two small divets / up against my lower back currently and it feels ok, what's your preference?
Thanks! They are slick packs. I haven’t removed the frame from mine and just been running it as it came, as it fit my back well without any real adjustments needed. Whatever works for you is the answer though. Cheers
I would have to agree with GoingVagrent he couldn't have pit it better I would like to ask you a question I have seen many military jackets being worn by Russian Troops in the 2018 Victory Day Parade and one Battalion had on Short Jackets with hoods attached but they were in the same camo as the NEW TARP YOU SHOWED and how you can join two together any idea what these jackets are called or where I could buy one they look cool
Great video Jess nice gear set up I never go camping without my 240 best all around tool I think nice to see a new video keep well and happy camping outdoor life is brilliant 💪🏴👍🔥🥩
Nice lowdown, I wonder if you have encountered the Viking 60ltr Patrol pack? Testing it myself presently to carry 3 days summer kit at 12kg including water. Thanks for sharing, awesome. Harry.
This is a great video. lots of information delivered well. I am also interested in your belt pouches set up, can you give me the name of it please, the brand. Thank you
Thank you! The belt is a collection of a bunch of different things. Belt is an old ALICE belt with H suspenders, MOLLE padded belt overtop of that to attach all the pouches.
Thanks brother. Will do a video. I have used a little Lansky sharpener for years that has two slots for coarse and fine. Those work really good on a lot of blades. A strop, little block of wood with leather, and some rubbing compound will take the edge to hair shaving sharp.
Thank you! I am not sure, as it was a gift. It is padded with 3 rows of webbing and has D rings for harness. It’s probably Rothco or something similar. I have been looking at the US Air Force vest. Search ABU-H vest on ebay. Those look solid and priced well
It will hold it. Depends on the rest of the load and how it all packed as well. It is a great pack. Nearly waterproof and slim design makes a huge difference in heavy timber.
I’ve had my eye on that mat for a couple of years now, going to have to splash out on it, also have the Strama whats’it knife, brilliant piece of kit. At the moment, I’ve been using the German army “elephant hide” tarp thing that’s about the same surface area as your mat, underneath whatever sleeping mat I’m using. They used to be really cheap, about a fiver, but now seem to be £12 or more now.☹️. Luckily I stocked up on them and have about 5 or 6, same with the Plasch Palatka.😁
Nice review, all those Finnish rucksacks are solid. I've been eyeing that sleeping mat up for a while now. That looks like a real nice piece of gear. Happy Easter, take care, hope the family is doing well.
Thanks Nate! I wasn’t sure if it was going to work with the belt rig, but it sits perfect. i have really been enjoying the belt kit/backpack combo. Everything is there within reach that I may need on the go.
Thanks, thats a great look at that pack . Recently got the jaakari M . Itsa cracking pack . Half wished I went for the L but already have a decent pack in that sort of size ( karrimor sf sabre 45) . Anyway take care . Enjoy your channel 👍
Thats a TON of GEAR, if you had weighed yourself with clothing and boots i wonder what the gross weight would be ? I find myself circumnavigating a site looking for misplaced tools, dropped pieces, or lost items prior to departure. Had to double-back more than once. Lumping it in as a base camp, then trimming the load for lighter day trip exploring, is sweet as well. Impressive carry, if i require a Sherpa, i will call you.....Cheers! 👍
Lol It was bit excessive... I wanted to demo the capacity and more importantly, what a more long term load would look like. I used to play music. One of the bands I was in, the band leader would make us do “idiot checks” to insure no gear was left behind. It was a subtle term of expression that has stayed with me for 20 years. 😂 As for carrying the gear, I do some basic lifting with kettlebells a couple times a week. Helps tremendously. Cheers 🤝
Always Great to hear from you Jess Happy Easter to you and your team. That pack is not cheap but it's the best quality and most versatile pack I've ever seen.
Thank you Manfred! We are all doing well. I hope you and yours are doing great. The Savotta gear never fails to impress. Reminds me of old world craftsmanship, combined with modern materials. Have a good one my friend.
The jacket is a German flecktarn parka. The belt rig is something I put together on an ALICE belt with a British yoke. I went over it in the video at the end.
The only thing that i don't like about the L is the damned rolltop. I seldom need that much volume that i use it, even in winter, and it makes packing and unpacking a pain in the ass. Not to mention that you need a headlamp if you want any chance of finding anything at the bottom of it. Oh, and lack of side pockets for long items strapped to the side/bottles. When ever i can i throw the 6L pockets on my M and use that instead. 🤔 Infact, the larger size Jääkäri M with carry system of L would be the perfect backpack
How well does using the hip pack as a load transfer from the backpack work? Do you feel like the hip pack pushes up too much on the bottom of the backpack, hunching you forward?
It works really really well. The way I have mine loaded, survival essentials, tools, water are on the belt, which supports the pack. The pack ends up being lighter, as the other gear is already on the waist. I recommend giving it a try.
@@EnduranceRoom I've been eyeing that Helikon Tex Foxtrot harness pack, it might do well for this. Thanks for the reply, really enjoy the channel, you talk about gear I'm interested in. Keep it up bro, doing good.
Did you get that from varusteleka. And if so how long did it take to get. Should have gotten one from Corporals Corner when he was pushing it. Didn't have the money at the time. Thanks
No problem. There is molle webbing underneath the pad that it is attached to. You just lay the pack flat with the straps facing up and you should be able to get to it no problem.
How do you think- would 30l one with side pouches do just as well? i mean to put them on your belt pouches for hip support... hot a good pack for winter, and for summer need something like 40-45l total, instead of hauling half empty 60liter one.. :D and one crazy idea that seems almost impossible- to use it with a battle belt...
I have the 30L Jääkäri M. It’s great for warmer weather overnights and day hikes. Between the L and the M, I prefer the L, as the carrying system is better. It works just fine with a belt rig underneath (or inside). As for side pouches, it depends on your environment, as they add width to the pack. In a dense forest, they are not ideal.

Happy Easter Jess . Nice pack . The other bearded guy used to run the medium version , but I think he swapped to something else lately. Thanks for the heads up on the grey guys page . Very informative on what going on . Notifications have been messed up on YT lately. Have a great day
Thanks brother. Glad to hear you checked him out. Checkout Chad Karr. He sums up a lot of data on how the party may be. My notifications have been all out of whack for weeks. I usually go to the subscription tab and just manually check. Have a good one!
Thank you. I am 6’2 and it fits me quite well. The shoulder straps are fixed, the hip belt has two rows of webbing, so it could be adjusted there if necessary. The load lifters give it a bit of flexibility as well. Great packs.
@@EnduranceRoom thanks for responding. I saw on a Reddit someone 6 foot 3 liked it so I figured might as well pull the trigger and order before they sell out again. I was a bit nervous though because it's a lot to send it back to Finland but Lamnia gave me free shipping on the way here to Michigan. I'm excited to try her out. it should be here within the week.
@@MrMcGillicuddy Nice! I think it will be a good fit. It does take a bit of time to get used to the straps and break it in. They soften up a bit over time. I really like mine. Hope it works out for you too! Are you in the UP?
I don’t know about everyone else, but to me, the quality is exceptional. The packs are designed for mountains and thick timber, carrying close to the body like a modern hiking/mountaineering pack, but with heavyweight, durable materials.
Happy Easter Jess, Nice pack. Thanks for showing what you carry on your harness rig also. I've been meaning to set one up, I have the harness and all pouches I need. I was wondering if it is still comfortable wearing a harness with a backpack on top of it? Never tried using both. 👍👌
Thanks Jeff! I really enjoy running my belt rig with the pack. As long as the pack isn’t too long/sets too low, it should ride on top the belt, giving support while still offering freedom of movement. The shoulder straps of the harness seem to offer additional padding as well. Definitely worth checking out 👍🤝
I'm a bit curious as to how you manage insects around this time in the bush. The tick season has begun and those damn critters are what keeps many people away from doing frequent forest overnighters. What's your strategy on tackling those? Do you take any steps to prevent them, or do you just keep a watchful eye out?
It helps to recognize their habitats, usually higher grass and shrubs. Vicks Vapo Rub works good as a deterrent. I put it on my ankles, waist, wrists and neck sometimes, if I am in an area when they are really bad.Typically, I just go do what I am going to do, and then do a check before and after sleeping, and again when I come home.
@@EnduranceRoom Pulling ticks with a knife? Sounds like that requires some fine motor skills and practice, but makes sense if you don't have anything else to use. I've seen people make improvised tick removers using expired credit cards by cutting a small "V" into the edge. Those seem rather effective and most people have an expendable credit card with them at all times, so it's a very accessible tool. Anyhow just thought I would share a useful tip if your swiss knife ever fails you. Keep the awesome videos coming, I'm learning a lot and I really like the atmosphere in them. Take care!
