Tobin Bell was in his 60s when he first played John Kramer. He's 81 now, and Jigsaw's practically a horror icon alongside the likes of Freddy, Jason, Ash, and Pinhead. Dude's a living example of how it's never too late to make it big.
He's got a youtube channel where he does sometimes post. Right now he's reading William Shakespeare or some such. It's pretty calming considering the man has a honey voice.
Seeing Hoffman and Amanda back is like a weird security blanket in these movies since we know both their fates. It's like seeing an old friend from high school 😂
We don’t know Hoffmans fate. Saw x showed us mark in the bathroom multiple times as cannon, meaning he easily could have hidden something. Saw sequels will very likely have Hoffman.
@@christianauldridge1264Hoffman’s fate was confirmed by writers. It’s still likely they might bring him back bc of fans but his fate was def sealed after Saw 3D so it’ll likely all be flash back/prequel films
@@SinSinny Why won't they make a sequel showing his dead body? The writers claim he's dead but their unwillingness to make a proper sequel showing hos rotting corpse is hard to ignore. It's easier to believe it that way.
That makes perfect sense. Cecilia was the one person Amanda felt didn't deserve to survive. It's possible Jigsaw letting Cecilia live left a sour feeling in Amanda.
I do believe Amanda was clearly conflicted in what she believed in and like John says, her emotions are her weakness. But... I don't believe Amanda was rigging traps. I think when they made Saw III, that was the intention. But since Hoffman's been introduced in Saw IV and his whole plan was to be the last one standing and tie up loose ends like Kerry, and since we know he blackmailed Amanda, AND the fact that Hoffman likes killing and gets off on it, I believe that Hoffman was the one rigging traps and framed Amanda for it. Even in Saw VI, when Amanda and John see Hoffman setting up The Rack, Amanda says "Told you he'd fuck with it" And again in Saw III, when Amanda is telling John "He made it through the freezer room, he tried to save her" and she begins crying, it seems to me like she wants Jeff to save these people. Does that seem like someone who was rigging traps? Lol. That's just my take on it. It makes more sense for Hoffman to be the one making unwinnable traps.
My favorite little detail is that Cecelia purposely gave the others bad advice so that they would die from their traps. Starting from the bottom of the leg instead of the top, going for the leg first instead of the arm, etc. she’s a true psychopath lol
1. Starting from the bottom of the leg is actually smarter to do because you would have more momentum and leverage to do this. Starting from the top, considering how close the wire was to her neck, you would have to lean a bit forward to cut all the way through. 2. It may seem smart to do the arm first, but you never know how the mechanism will respond once it detects detachment. Just like how the radiation fan sensed that Gabriella was not in front, it moved to her location. If she broke her hand first, you never know what happens after since John always thinks ahead. Maybe the chain gets pulled towards the wall and the radiation fan makes its way to her there.
Its not true. I think she wanted them to win bc then they could go and ask for help. Thats why everybody was rooting for each other, if one of them won all of them would've been saved. Thats what they thought lol.
I don't think so, She WAS the only reason that Valentina and Mateo knows how to do their traps, i think she was trying to help them at the beginning , but when Gabriella's Trap came, she realized that if she dies she'll have less money to split with so she sabotaged her.
Eh for Maria maybe because yeah going for the seems to make more sense but for the first trap nah starting down the bottom allows you to lean back away from the wire and use your own weight to help cut as the leg falls down on the wire keeping tension. Starting from the top would be awful, you’d have to lean forwards risking hitting your face or neck on the wire in front of you and continually press forwards hard because any release of tension would be unnecessary agony as you have to guide the wire back down or risk cutting through more layers of muscle and flesh to get back where you where leaving a more jagged cut. It was really only in her interest to kill them once she was free because at that point they had no use for her.
amanda is such a devastating character, like truly. imagine growing up neglected & abused, then later getting framed for a crime you didnt commit and get sent to jail, get addicted to drugs, get released from jail and get KIDNAPPEDDDD, get traumatized, find a father figure in the man that traumatized you (who highkey manipulates you) and now youre helping him kidnap other people and you truly believe in his ideology and the things he stands for. like, he's taken you under his wing and taught you philosophy and engineering. and then you realize. "holy shit. i didn't get better. i stopped doing drugs but the addiction manifested into something else (cutting, etc)". realizing that people don't change after their traps (eric matthews). and then ultimately getting mistreated by the man you believed was somebody who'd keep you safe only to realize he was putting you through a third test that you were forced to fail because of blackmail. likeeee amanda young is literally my roman empire. even while she was dying, she STILL reaches out to john, even after doing basically nothing but manipulate and hurt her (whether he meant to or not), because it's all she's ever known. like, their father-daughter relationship isnt healthy but its the only stability she's ever had. she needed therapy and real help but he was the only one who ever seemed to care. idk shes so tragic her life is so upsetting. dedicated herself to him just to get put down like a dog with a bite history
this movie does a really good job of setting up her character development in saw 2 and 3. like, everybody who technically deserved to live ended up dying, meanwhile the bitch who deserved absolutely nothing ended up living. amanda starts to question john's method. and then saw 2's events happen. amanda recognizes that despite being put through a test, Eric Matthews was the same man he was when he arrested her. people didn't change after the test -- not even she was "fixed." the scene at the end of saw 3 where she's begging john to fix her and help her is sooooo. idk. its so tragic she deserved so much better. everybody in her life failed her
@@piper5939fun fact: original saw III script had Amanda kill Eric in the bathroom, then go into the van John wss in outside and tell him that Eric was alive in a trap. Then later in III, Amanda would tell John how Eric was still the same p.o.s that arrested her and that he never changed even when he died.
i love this comment so much. shes such a complex character which is ironic considering most ppl think this franchise is just t0rture p0rn with no layers. i keep seeing so many ppl calling her character bad when shes by far the best written chatacter of this franchise, she deserved so much better but i love how tragic her story is cause its truly something no other movies would give you. i could talk about her for so long, and this movie did her justice so well without making it look like fan service. even the kidnapping scenes were so sick and well executed (i love how u can hear her giggling before kidnapping gabriela ahah)
What I loved about this movie is the scene where he throws away his plans for the Rack after the “surgery”. It tells us that with this new lease of life he wants to just live it. Had they actually done what they promised and cured him, they would have stopped any further Jigsaw killings.
The part of the movie where John says people have had half of their brain removed and survived, that happened to me. When I was about 6, I slipped in the bathroom and hit my head on the tiles, causing a brain hemorrhage (brain bleeding). From what I’ve heard, they had to remove half of my brain and freeze it or something. Thankfully I recovered more than most kids would’ve, the only issues I have is minor body twitching and 3 steel plates in the left side of a head followed by obviously a scar.
This was a good addition to the collection! Side Note: Tobin Bell carried the Saw franchise! Even when his character was “killed off”! His presence was established! Shoutouts to Shawnee Smith and Costas Mandylor respectfully 😊
My only complaint is that they cut some scenes because they didn’t want the movie to be too long and drawn out but give me a 3 hour saw movie! I’m here for it! I watched in theaters and I loved it!!
I'd think the worry of pulling a bit that woukd disable your speech, or movement of a limb would be a reason to hesitate too, rather than just the pain element
True but I think the brain can trick itself into thinking there’s pain. I can imagine it as I type this, that cutting into my brain or touching it would hurt.
Okay but genuinely, this movie made me so SAD for Jigsaw and I don't know how they did that. You forget how terrible of a person he is, and you just want this lovely elderly man to be okay. That's movie magic. It's the only movie in the whole series where, when the traps start, everyone who watches this film is going "Hell yeah! Mess them up!"
I think that is what makes Saw such a great franchise. Even when some of the movies struggled, you always felt a connection to John himself. There is something so captivating about his presence on the screen that you long to see more, even though you know others will suffer for it.
The plot twist was slickly executed. It's similar to the way the recent Orphan movie was handled. Because you are familiar with the plot, you may wonder what fresh information may be added to present a different perspective on the characters. John's 'protagonist' status and the dramatic tension of a child being lured into danger make for a really epic story. Because in the previous movies, even if John was on the brink of death, he, as a Jigsaw entity, felt invincible. So, seeing John so vulnerable as to beg was like a breath of fresh air. Who would have thought we'd see the day John Kramer, the jigsaw killer, begging at his own game?
Absolutely not. That shit was a fucking horrible dumpster fire, poorly made, and poorly written and whose only redeemable factor is the mediocre effort they took into making a 20 something year old look small. That shit was not “slickly“ done in the orphan. Here, it was layered just fine and dare I say perfectly. Orphan was in no way comparable to anything that had sufficient or solid structure because it was on the back burner for years and looks like it had a script That went through 12 million revisions and versions by other people before they decided to scrap it and throw something together last minute to make a quick buck.
30:15 there was a woman who was a violin player and had brain surgery to remove a tumor and periodically they would have her test out playing throughout the surgery to make sure it wasn't messing with her ability, her name is Dagmar Turner.
Hey Friends! Just a heads up and reminder that our Saw 7 reaction is coming out next weekend but is currently on our Patreon as a watch along (sync up format) We filmed Saw 7 before watching this one! Saw X takes please between Saw 1 and 2. Jigsaw and Spiral will wait a little longer since they aren’t part of the core ones that came out. Hope to see yall there for those reactions and as always thanks so much watching!!💜
Good luck with Jigsaw and Spiral those two are ok films, but not my personal favorites… weaker entries in the Saw Franchise, for sure. But Samuel L Jackson’s always fun, and the bad guy from Jigsaw’s not that bad, sooo 🤷🏻♀️
You guys have to do it follows! I frickin love your reactions and how shocked you guys are when scary stuff happens I love reactions there awesome specific ones actually lol
I love how, when he isn’t putting people in death traps, John comes across as a very sweet old man who you wouldn’t mind sharing coffee with. It just shows what an amazing actor Tobin Bell is
I love that this film delved more into the dynamic between John and Amanda. And that we got a little sprinkle of Hoffman at the end. We didn't get much of the John-Amanda apprentice vibes because the plot twist happened at the end of 2 and Amanda dies at the end of 3. So it was definitely nice to see their relationship blossom into what we see when 3 rolls around. I have a feeling that the events of this movie probably solidified Amanda's idea that people can't be rehabilitated and put the idea of unwinnable traps in her head. Especially when Cecilia had that little boy dragged into this. She was absolutely vile. Scamming dying people out of their money and giving them false hope to cling to and then LYING about it is so wild. Glad she got played in the end
Someone posted a tiktok w an explanation of why Cecelia lives. Bc I was also pissed lol but it makes more sense she lives bc it helps explain why Amanda is the way she is. She made unbeatable traps bc of how this evil woman got to survive and killed Gabriella and she felt so bad for her bc she was also an addict and she saw herself in her. So it sucks she lived but it helps explain a lot why Amanda is the way she is
I like the notion that “the rack” is his favorite cause he says it, and he was drawing the design during another vulnerable period in his life when he got scammed and was given Hope where he had none. Basically reminding him WHY jigsaw needs to exist in his eyes.
I feel so much for this old man. He needs and deserves all the hugs. Great film, great actor, and just the right dose of nostalgia and "fanservice". I will watch it until it seeps in my blood
I watched it in the cinema with a friend, I sent him all the clips and trailer but went into it without knowing anything, I might do the same next time.
I didn't watch any trailers because I didn't know the movie was a thing until recently. My local cinema did a special one-off screening on Halloween, a month ahead of the official localized release.
These traps felt INTENSE compared to the others like i felt nauseous and sweaty in the cinema and u could feel everyone else was too. Easily in my top 3 favourites, we finally got a gorgeous ass saw film finally.
I like to think seeing Gabriella die and Carlos getting roped into this situation were the reasons why Amanda protected Daniel in SawII. After seeing one life no different than her own being snuffed out by Cecilia, and Carlos obviously having done nothing wrong, Amanda might’ve been trying to make right for being unable to save Gabriella…that being why she left Daniel somewhere “safe”, and aided him during 2’s game. And also why she gave a warning to Jeff’s kid to “don’t trust the one who saves you,” that being her warning about Hoffman staging her rescue at the beginning of SawV. Now granted, it’s not like the events of SawII were written to be congruent with X’s; rather the other way around. But they wrote Amanda pretty well to where her previous actions still work, and now have a motivation, chronologically speaking. Gabriella’s death could be considered the catalyst for why she protected Daniel. She knew, because of Hoffman blackmailing her with an ultimatum that, she might not make it out alive of 3, so she left a warning for Jeff & Lyn’s daughter. In spite of how disturbed Amanda was to go through assisting Kramer with this stuff, there was that shed of humanity still in her to protect the kids who got involved. My heart breaks for her.
The eye trap, the bone marrow trap , and the brain surgery trap were pretty good traps. Loved seeing Amanda’s humanity that wasn’t present at all in saw 3 and how she was pretty hesitant on becoming an apprentice instead of immediately joining with no hesitancy. I loved that finally John is the focus of the movie with having awful ppl being in traps. Cecilia was a great villain for jigsaw (hopefully she shows up again and has a brutal death). Winnable traps bug ppl losing it just by a smidge with 3 ppl actually winning their games even if one of them was a disgusting human being. Loved that it was in Mexico too. Seeing a kid take part in a jigsaw trap was pretty hard to watch. It really was the best saw movie to come out since saw 2. 9/10
I'm sooo glad to know I'm not the only one who cried during this !!! I bawled!!! This is an amazing movie!! I actually really loved the eye vacuum trap because of how it gave us a look into john's mind and how quickly he can come up with these ideas and traps. They did a great job at making you feel for John in this. I have to say this ties with 6 as my faves!! I wish Cecilia would have died, too. She was the true villain in this. And I feel like she shouldn't have survived a trap.
To answer Sergio’s question: I believe the original creators of Saw only had planned for Saw to be a trilogy at most (well first just a standalone film but it was a hit at the box office lol)
The original creators never intended for their to be sequels, but I believe after positive reviews at film festivals and then the box office, lionsgate we’re pushing for a sequel. You can really tell after Saw 2, Leigh and James initial concept and vision for Saw wasn’t there anymore. I believe they officially left after Saw 3, and only came back to do Saw 3 in memory of Gregg Hoffman who died. I think after Saw 3 James and Leigh were happy to let the franchise go and allow for the crew to take it in their own direction. I believe they still get paid for every movie anyway.
I am 100% certain Doctor Gordon was the one who surgically implanted the bombs into the taxi driver & helped set up the traps in Mexico. This is after the first saw & before Saw II, so Gordon is already recovered & Jigsaw's secret apprentice, unseen by Amanda. Although, given how awful all the Saw movies are after the second one, I prefer to pretend this is an alternate continuity, a la Halloween H20, ignoring Saw III-7 & the awful Spiral & Jigsaw spin-offs.
honestly John and the kid immediately hits me in the feels...if for no reason other than it further giving the example of john having actual hope for once, even to the point of crumpling away a trap (one which we know happens to be his favourite, just for a moment he was done)
I love this movie so much also your thirsting for John ... totally understandable ❤ and yes give Tobin Bell all the awards. The man deserves it. Also they literally almost drowned Tobin Bell , I've seen the behind the scenes. He was actually water boarded. Sad fact : the little boy's name is Carlos and John called him a warrior ( Gideon, John's unborn son, means great warrior)
I loved this entry in the franchise and I had so much fun with it. I love your reactions to this series and I just wanna say you're killing it!!! Your commitment and consistency to uploading reactions for us to enjoy is incredible❤❤❤Love you guys!!
The two of you have quickly become one of my favorite reaction channels! The bond between you just really shows, and your videos make me smile a whole helluva lot🥰
i literally said the same thing after i saw this in the movies “i never expected to cry during a saw movie” i also agree with Cecilia not having a good death . i wanted her to have a brutal death with everything she’s done . but otherwise this movie is number 2 on my list of saw movies .
Cecilia not having a good death is likely a major part of the reason Amanda starts making unbeatable traps, it actually makes a lot of sense that Cecilia lives here.
I feel you, I cried during Saw III once. Hahaha (I really did). There was just something about Jeff's suffering in that first room with the lady who froze to death, the way he screamed at her in pain about his son dying in his arms. Great reaction!
I love the fact that you both went into this movie seemingly not knowing anything about the plot. I was just watching like, “ooohhh you just wait…” lol.
The second the Saw theme came on at the end when Cecilia grabbed the cash bag, I JUMPED out of my theater seat, clapping my hands and screamed “LET’S GOOOO!!!!!!” Because I was just waiting for the plot twist lol 40:12
I watched the movie right before watching this. I was blown away by it, especially by Tobin Bell's performance. Man I've missed John Kramer in these movies! I did not expect to feel so many emotions! Who thinks they're going to cry during a freaking Saw movie? Silly me didn't even bother to check for a credits scene so when it started on your review I had to pause and go watch it for myself first. So happy to see Hoffman again, he was my second favorite character in the series behind Kramer. I only found you guys recently and I think you're great, keep doing what you're doing!
I loved this even more than the movie itself! This was my favorite Saw reaction of yours! Being Team Kramer’s baking show and getting emotional during a Saw movie never felt so good.
It is so good to see Tobin Bell as John Kramer again, he was made for this role. Saw 1 was my first ever horror movie when I was 13 years old and oh boy did it scar me…but it also started my love of horror movies so I’m happy I was to stubborn and watched it anyway back then lol.
Even though Saw 1 will always hold a special place in my heart, I absolutely love this movie. I think this was exactly what this franchise needed and I can't wait to see what they do next. I hope you continue to review them.
Some of these movies have that open ended... ending Saw 1 ended with Adam trapped in the bathroom Saw 2 ended with Detective Matthews trapped in that bathroom Saw 3 ended with Jeff and his daughters trapped Saw 4 still wondering the fate of the daughter. Saw 7 ended with Hoffman trapped in the bathroom Lets you wonder about future films. Saw X ended with Cecilia trapped in the room. And Henry's trap being activated. I think it's a good thing to keep us waiting for the next one. Or at least give us the illusion that there will be more lol
watching this in cinema on release day was so much fun, every time an iconic character arrived/was mentioned we were all reacting exactly like you are :')
Seeing the eye get sucked out... actually gave me a reaction, because all I've experienced about it was audio. Also, after rewatching the clip, I had the same reaction but I layed down for a second and rethought my life choices.
I watched this on a Friday afternoon after classes and the theater was completely empty. One of the most awesome theater experiences I’ve ever had. I ADORED this movie as someone who has been a saw fan since I was 14 (probably shouldn’t have started that young but whatever lol). Might actually be my favorite in the entire franchise
I was so happy with this movie. I did not expect to come out of this movie feeling like I did. Believe it or not this one goes down as my favorite - almost easily. That’s not something I thought I would ever say after how much I liked the first three!
I hope when the RU-vid channel Dead Meat has their award show next year, that Tobin Bell is both nominated and wins because damn, does he deserve it for this movie!
Saw X may have not been everyone's favorite but I honestly LOVED it.... It took a risk with the slow opening differing from the last saw movies but THAT'S is where it was best- At the core the franchises antagonistic who at this point is now this malevolent force haunting from beyond the grave with his work continuing from his predecessors was once this vulnerable and hopeful poor man who was dying cancer and while his methods may lead a fanbase divided, this movie really did a phenomenal job in humanizing him and making characters like him and Amanda vulnerable. This was that ONE saw movie that did make me cry because we all know how it's gonna end for these characters and it sucks so bad because WHAT IF these guys were true and they REALLY DID work miracles. John was turning over that leave when he discarded that sketch of the rack, and it wasn't soo late into his killings either before he was identified.... He could have ended it right there but because of another evil he was roped back into it and killed whatever hope he had left.
I CAN NOT GET OVER CECELIA NOT DYING! She was the main antagonist technically how does she not get a gruesome death like the chick with the head cut off?!? I don’t care if she won her test she didn’t deserve it after putting John & an innocent boy into the trap.
I enjoyed the movie but one thing that I wish they did is when once John figures out that the whole thing was a scam, and smashes the bottle the title of SAW X comes up. Because that’s when the game begins
This is the first time I get to see Saw X as well and it was great! 🙌 I'll probably will see the full movie too when that's possible, but I couldn't wait until that! Also the *_villain_* in this movie, Cecilia, is Norwegian too 🙌🇧🇻 First time I see her in a international movie 👏
The thing about Saw movies is I just can’t dislike John Kramer. I can’t. I know he’s a maniac. But I LOVE Tobin Bell so much, he just seems like such a sweet guy. And I can’t separate John and Tobin, not because he’s a bad actor, he’s incredible. I just love Mr. Bell that much lol. Team Jigsaw.
This movie was basically battle of the brains... Cecilia against John, who can outsmart the other and its so fun to see. Also, fuck Cecilia, because if Gabriela broke her hand first she would have survived even more. This movie rocks, the best since the OG trilogy.
They better bring Cecilia back if they make a sequel to this one and give her a gruesome death or I'll be mad. I have not hated a villain this much since Ms. Carmody in The Mist!
After 3 I became disillusioned with this franchise (still like 6 tho), but this movie was great at adding more layers and humanity to the characters we already knew that I was happy to see the torture gang back together.
This reaction got me crying all over again. I never ever thought I would cry watching a saw movie... the first 20 minutes had me bawling cuz I just lost my mom to cancer and I know the feeling of hoping theres a miracle cure. Then the ending with the kid and how shitty all those people were and how that bitch got her trap and when the music hit i was clapping and crying and hollering!
michael beachs my boy i recognize him from chicago pd Good eye 11:07 she does give off that vibe that she wants to tell john kramer, but she's afraid to. poor gabriella she didnt deserve any of that that poor kid, i wouldn't be surprised if he came back and carried on johns legacy, but then again the kid deserves to live a long happy life
That's why I'm torn! On one hand, the kid (Carlos) carrying on John's legacy would be a cool idea better than bringing in or bringing back another apprentice from a previous movie but on the other hand, I just want him to live a happy normal life after what he went through here. That's always my dilemma when thinking of horror sequels bringing back characters.
@@marymartin2154i totally get you, someone mentioned how they'd like to see Carlos live a long and happy life and use that money to become a doctor and find a cure for brain cancer,This would honor Tobin Bell without having Carlos become an apprentice. HOWEVER if i am correct Carlos is 9-10 in SAW X maybe older maybe younger so by the time of SAW 7 The final chapter he'd be 18-19, perfect age to be an apprentice
