We had a '70 GMC camper special my parents bought new. It was the same gold/white with the faux wood trim, etc. The only difference was the bed was 8 1/2 foot long. I loved that truck.
Beautiful wood. I hate when I get my mill stuck on wide cuts, time consuming and frustrating. You handled it well. I have difficulty backing up, even with wedging the cut. Have damaged some blades before.Working on some huge red oak logs now. Some day I'll get up the nerve to post a video, yours are great. I think you are hooked on this sawing!
Ray Zickrick I had a 72 blazer that color too, here in Alaska. I almost had the DMV lady convinced to list the color as baby poop yellow when her supervisor walked up. She shut that idea down.
Looked like very nice slabs. You made, if I counted correctly, 16 cuts. what would you chard for that work. It obviouly took more time than the video time.?
I charge $85 an hour for hardwood milling. 2 hour minimum if I mill on-site. Since they brought the logs to me there was no minimum. It only took less than an hour. They gave me $100 if I remember correctly.
Oh wow! At 6:00 - the extremely seldom seen, but much sought after, reverse thrust sawdust. I never believed folk when they told me about it, but there it is. And at 11:00 too!
It depends on your local codes. Where I live, the lumber has to be inspected and stamped be a certified lumber grader which you can have done with your own lumber.
I WAS SAWING UP SOME SPALTED MAPLE TODAY NOT AS BIG AS YOURS THOUGH. MINE WERE 4-5' LONG AND 34" WIDE. MAN THAT STUFF IS HARD. WHAT BLADE WERE YOU USING?
There’s a guy who cut the center portion out of top and welded in a filler section and made it at least a foot wider. He’s in Canada and gets some really wide logs
Northwest Sawyer That’s a good thing. I have been looking at Norwood and cooks but everybody raves about the Wood Mizer customer service. Since they all cut wood that seems to be the big advantage to me so far.
I have. I did a demonstration for an actual lumber mill near by about a year or so ago. They just called me again a couple days ago wanting me to come back. They’re looking at an LT 70.
Right, I remember watching this, in your safety vests & the over kill loader? 🌲👷♂️👷♂️👍, I just received my hat, coffee cup & paper work, looking forward to doing one myself. I had just over 40hrs on my lt35 manual, and I am at almost 50 hrs on my newer lt40 wide! I feel like I can work my way threw most logs as of yet! Knock on wood!🌲💪👷♂️👍
The possibilities are only limited by their imagination. You can make live-edge shelves or tables. You can cut the edges off and make straight lumber to build anything you’d want to out of wood. Search “epoxy river table”. Those are a very popular use for slabs right now.
I’m just not that talented, no imagination, but I still love watch the pros work. Very impressive. My dream would be to build my retirement home/cabin. Getting some great ideas watching your channel and some others. Thumbs up as always.
They’re making a table out of some of it for a beach house. I’m still in contact with them. They’re going to send me some video when it’s done so I can post an update.
That table will probably be awesome. I saw some really beautiful grain in a couple of the planks. I don't think I'd want to be the one to move it. It's going to be heavy.
Nothing confirmed. I had a guy contact my a few months ago about a really big job in SW Portland somewhere but I haven't heard anything since. If I get a job that I'm dropping off a sample for tomorrow, I'll be doing some beam sawing in Wilsonville soon.
Northwest Sawyer im in the hillsboro area. Im playing around on 50 acers of mature everything. Mostly blow down. Got 2 massive cedars laying beside eachother i maybe interested in sharing if thats your type of thing.
36" is the biggest diameter my mill can handle but I'd be happy to talk about possibly working a trade. Shoot me an email to 5tonfabrication@gmail.com and we can go from there.
Northwest Sawyer I'll try to make it happen in the next few weeks. I have 4 videos still waiting to be exited and posted and this tropical depression has had it monsoon like here.
