Great video, thank you very much. I can't believe you did it, but appreciated you doing the hot dog test. I couldn't believe it because that cost you $100 for a new brake, right? Two questions. Do you know at what moisture content in the wood, would trigger the brake to engage? Also, and I bet I already know the answer to this, is that 10" blade toast now? Can you even extract it?

Just built my first shop 24x24 and want to get rid of my DWE7491RS, which is only a few months old to get a this or the cabinet don't know which yet. I was wondering about the noise levels of this saw compared to other contractor saws and the cabinet SS.

I've included these comments on other posts, but thought other Wood Worker would benefit from them. Here are my comments after 2 years of experience with the SS Contractor Model. 1. I was lucky enough to find a used SS saw at a bargain price! My old Craftsman Contractor TS, had a "Knock-off," Biesemeyers Fence that worked perfectly, for 15 years. My decision to buy SS was based on Safety alone, but after using it, I now would include quality as a reason to buy it! 2. I had to upgrade my Electrical Panel, in my 50 year old garage from 2 ,15 amp Fuses and only 110 volts, which would blow 80% of the time, to a new Panel that includes several 20 amp circuits on 110v as well a many 15 amp circuits. I also added 220 volt circuit so I can now run my Air Comp. 3. My SS saw came with the standard fence, which is in my opinion isn't accurate enough.I upgraded the fence to a 52 Professional Fence, also found used, which is fantastic. I wanted to build a TS Work Station utilizing the Top Surface of the saw, as well as the space underneath the TS, for storage etc. The Top Surface will accommodate two Router Tables one on either side, another TS, probably an older Craftsman TS, used only for Dado cuts. The 2 TS will share the same Fence! Underneath the TS there will be several cabinets for tool storage. This idea is particularly suited to small shops! 3. The WorkStation is mounted on a "Portamate Mobil Base" that is 5 feet long and solid as a rock! 4. I am currently in the process of improving the Dust Collection by enclosing and sealing off the bottom section of the saw. I used the SS Dust Collect Panel as a templet to cut the other 3 panels to form the sides and then installed a bottom panel. 5. I'll add an 18 Inch wide Extension Table off the back end of the saw for obvious reasons. I'll take this opportunity, to hang a Motor Cover Box, which will be vented, to fully enclose the entire TS to improve the Dust Collection properties of this saw. 6. Finally, I am in the process installing a BLADE GUARD with Dust Collection. My main reason for adding this, is to improve Safety first and Dust Collection secondly. 7. If I had to do it again, I would! I recommend the SS TS at every opportunity.

Beautiful bit of kit just a shame we can’t buy in the UK unless you want that overpriced festool Jobsites saw which I don’t want I want a cast-iron table with this safety system built into it but because of corporate enterprise it seems to be okay for us to have accidents over here with table source as long is the shareholders at festool get their dividends who gives a shit

hi there, I plan on upgrading my current table saw and I was interested in the saw stop pro cabinet table saw. can I ask_ will any dust extractor work with this saw or does saw stop supply one that will suit the saw? and is the saw available in Europe? Cheers Dan
@HighlandWoodworking
@HighlandWoodworking 7 лет назад
We do not ship SawStop saws outside the USA. Please contact Sawstop for the availability of their product in Europe. www.sawstop.com/ Standard woodworking dust collectors in North America, 1 horsepower or greater (and that normally use a 4" diameter hose) are the types of dust collection machines used with a tablesaw, including the SawStop. SawStop does not make any dust collector for their saws, but there are many to choose from in the open marketplace.
@whitevanman8703
@whitevanman8703 4 года назад
@@HighlandWoodworking To ship to Europe you need a a friendly address in the USA, someone who is putting pallets in containers, it's too expensive to ship by air. Lastly you need to think of the electricity supply, 110v is no problem to any builder but the Htzs is 60 not 50 and whilst brushed motors don't mind, induction motors do. And I have not found a cheap solution to that though many people don't care and plug it into a 110v transformer anyway.

I'm new to woodworking and am looking at getting a SawStop table saw, I going to be building furniture. Just wondering how much a difference is between the contractors saw and a cabinet saw - accuracy of the cuts etc?
@HighlandWoodworking
@HighlandWoodworking 8 лет назад
SawStop has a comparison guide on their website that you might find helpful: www.sawstop.com/support/product-comparison In general terms, an enclosed base cabinet saw gains you more mass and stability over a "contractor's" style table saw. A heavier saw (with more mass in the trunnion assembly - the unit that houses the arbor shaft the blade mounts onto) will typically provide greater accuracy and efficiency in your cutting endeavors. This doesn't mean you can't do quality work on a contractor's style tablesaw. Plenty of woodworkers are building beautiful work using a contractor's saw. Budget, portability & mobility needs, shop space constraints and shop electrical limitations are just some of the points to consider when determining the best saw for your needs. If you don't expect to take a table saw to someplace farther than within the walls of your shop, then consider the PSC model over the contractor's style, if your budget can stretch that much. In the long run, upgrading to the cabinet model at a later date after first buying a contractor's model is not as cost efficient as getting the cabinet model upfront, but you know best where to spend your overall tool budget dollars. Regardless of what model or where you buy, we would stress to be sure it's a SawStop brand of tablesaw that you get. All of the SawStop models have a high quality fit and finish, can do accurate work and will provide you with a safety mechanism that is unmatched in the market place of tablesaws.

Thank you so much for your response which was so helpful for making up my mind. I'll definitely go with a saw stop cabinet saw now, I'll just hold off and save a bit more, but it will be worth it in the long run. Thanks again for your advice. Regards Brandon

Great saw to have for job site. Way overpriced for the average company. Just because it stops the blade is not going to be enough to be competitive. And dado- capable isn't important on most job sites. You lost a big market, simply on the price of your saws. Love to own one, but never will. I guess the only fingers that matter are on the hands of the wealthier folks or big companies that can afford your saw.

I started to buy a saw stop 2 years ago but the local store had a deal on a Jet hybrid table saw. I bought it. Well as of 1-7-18 I wished I would have made the investment into me by buying the sawstop. I had finger surgery on 1-8-18, surgeon says I should make a full recovery, I'll just be missing part of my bird finger. The Jet is up for sale and I will be buying a saw stop. I just don't know if I'll get the contractor saw or the pro cabinet saw. I can tell you my fingers and hands are worth 100 x more than that saw. Money comes and goes but I really want to keep the rest of my digits and I know I'll find the money to buy the saw. I'm also a auto shop teacher so I teach safety to my high school students. I'll unfortunately be able to show them what 99% safety looks like. Everyone be safe out there

Have you priced insurance premium s lately, or a trip to the ER ? That saw is cheap compared to loosing a finger, I guess you bought a new car WITHOUT an airbag too?

I have had two coworkers who have taken ladder falls, one broke his back and never returned to work, the other broke his back and is paralyzed. Its truly heartbreaking. I am sure if they made a ladder you could not fall from I am sure they would have wanted it. I get the cost. Over two billion dollars was spent last year on medical care for table saw injury's. Just to you know I am not wealthy but have lived through enough injury's so I am willing to pay up. I heard they tried to sell their technology to others but no one wanted it. I am not sure if that is true. It would be nice if it cost say 200.00 more. In time the cost may come down if other companies make their own version. Take care
