Hi... In my collection I have over 500 vintage saxophones and is therefore very difficult to play them every day but the passion for this pipe is great and mysterious so let's say I play them very often. Many of them are quite difficult to play and require a lot of practice. Thank you for your comment... :-)

Maestro, I have a question about the Rothophone. it is of course very similar to the Sarrusophone developed originally by Gautrot in France. I have read that the problem with the Sarrusophone was that its high range was weak compare to the bass and midrange. In your experience, does the Rothophone have a similar problem? I have wondered if the Rothophone was really meant to be an improvement of the Sarrusophone that corrected this problem. Grazi!

...and what would be the oddity? maybe you're renting a common Conn Chu Berry baritone... certainly it is not the model iI use in my show. My baritone is a Chu Berry "Artist Virtuoso Deluxe" model, fully gold plated and engraved on the whole body, from the bell to the neck, it has also the mother of pearl keys on all sides. I think it is really very difficult for a saxophone so rare to be leased, i would never do that ...

Hi, my collection is currently made up of about 600 saxophones, 300 vintage toys and thousands of photos, accessories, mouthpieces, documents etc ... I have been a collector for over 30 years and in my life I have bought over 12000 musical instruments from every part of the world, mainly from the United States of America.
@airhythming
@airhythming 9 лет назад
What do you mean by "Tarogato" in English?? Could it be "Clarinet"?
@AttilioBerni
@AttilioBerni 9 лет назад
Hello, no the tarogato is a different instrument: it's an hungarian instrument. The mouthpiece is enough similar to clarinet mouthpiece. The fingering is very similar to saxophone fingering but the tarogato is a conical woodwind as the saxophone while the clarinet has a cilindric tube.

Attilio Berni Thank you for your kindness!! I am Japanese and could not find any information on the internet.
@AttilioBerni
@AttilioBerni 11 лет назад
Hello, sincerely in my experience the Rothophone has a very similar timbre, beatiful and very focus, to the Sarrusophone but only if you play them using a double reed. Using a single reed mouthpiece the timbre is a bit more rude and also the tune isn't perfect. Thanks and ciao!
@AttilioBerni
@AttilioBerni 12 лет назад
If you like I realized a professional double DVD (it include a booklet with the history of all the saxophones) with a live recording of more than two hours of my concert. The sale price is 30 euros plus shipping cost (payment by credit card or Paypal). Thanks again for your appreciations and Regards. Attilio Berni
@AttilioBerni
@AttilioBerni 12 лет назад
Hello! Thanks for your opinion. In my Saxophobia performance for each saxophone I use a particular and specific mouthpiece that enhances the timbre of the instrument and is particularly suitable for the pitch. Infact many of these instruments haven't a pitch with the 440Hz (the bass and soprano tarogatos, the Adolphe Sax Father tenor and others ...). For the tenor sax Conn Chu Berry Artist I utilize a Selmer Soloist short shank hard rubber mouthpiece modified by the great Ralph Morgan.

Interessantissimo video.

The mouthpiece is much more practical and easy but the sound is a bit awkward and rude, with the double-reed a little more complicated but the timbre is beautiful. Both have some problems with intonation on the low notes and with mechanism on high notes. The volume is fairly uniform and homogeneous in all registers. Bye!
@AttilioBerni
@AttilioBerni 11 лет назад
The Rothophone is in effect a sarrusophone with the shape of the saxophone. In my collection I own a quartet of them (alto, tenor, baritone and soprano), usually I play the baritone and the alto, both have a very distinctive sound. I play them with a saxophone mouthpiece and with a double-reed.
