i love Sayaka, she doesn't add anything, she doesn't show off her technique, but she plays as if she paints a piece of art.

I always listen to the old version Sayaka's performance and when I jump into here, I found there are some small difference between. The young Sayaka's performance was full of energy and power , just like a blooming flower. Just like a shooting star in the sky . This version shows her matured skill and connotation.

It's totally different vibrato and bowing technique from when she gave recital series of Beethoven sonatas. How many violinist could do that sincere attitude to the composers? It's difficult thing to change your own playing style,especially left hand of violinist. She is a true artist and one of the finest interpreter out there.
@anonymousl5150
@anonymousl5150 2 года назад
I highly doubt it is matching a stylistic change. A simple observation shows back in 2005 Brahms violin concerto, her violin was raised very high in the typical manner. That also changed her finger position. Now she plays with the violin very low and slanted downward for the last couple of years.
@Chalarge4635
@Chalarge4635 2 года назад
@@anonymousl5150 The reason is her switching of Stradivarius. Now she is playing the second rate Strad. I don't like that instrument. And I am not so big fan of her recent performance, but I believe she will be back on track.
@anonymousl5150
@anonymousl5150 2 года назад
@@Chalarge4635 The instrument change alone won't completely change the posture. She's played on many different violins. I believe her technique suffered starting around 2010. Gradually her violin would be grabbed lower and lower, and her fingers would be more angled on the fingerboard.
@Chalarge4635
@Chalarge4635 2 года назад
@@anonymousl5150 Let me return my point of original comment above, and as a violin player/Teacher I don't think her all changes she made purely becaused of technical issue. It's almost disrespectful to her artistic achidvment. However It is normal the string player starting suffer after nearly twenty years of performing career, and I saw her new year appearance in Russia made me think she has gone through a bit difficult times as a violinist.
@anonymousl5150
@anonymousl5150 2 года назад
@@Chalarge4635 I never said it was due to a technical issue. It could be, who knows? Pretty much every professional violinist that has ever played has faced injuries, regardless of whether people perceive their technique to be perfect. It is not a natural activity playing the violin.

If you think Sayaka Shoji is the finest violinist of our day.you have not heard Akiko Suwanai, another Japanese violinist, but slightly older and taller. Both are outstanding, but Akiko reminds me of Heifitz. Both women have played beautiful Stadivarius violins and Akiko used to play the Strad Dolphin which was owned and played by Heifitz until he took to his Guaneri del Gesu. Akiko now plays a "Charles Reade" Guarneri del Gesù. So, she follows in Heiftz's footsteps. I prefer Akiko's tone to Sayaka's, It is probably due to her technique..

@altoclef6688
@altoclef6688 3 года назад
The first five-six minutes..she even started a three-note figure on the wrong note.. as if she didn't have her mind into the music. But then things got much better. And I love the flutist, the flute and solo violin has a little dialogue in the first movement - very nicely done. The Canzonetta - just wonderful, and the final movement .. ! There is a Russian recording with Henryk Szeryng which was my favourite for many years, when I heard Shoji for the first time I found a new equal favourite - they play very differently but both with care for each single note. This performance added a few interesting details in the orchestra, I am not familiar with Liss but I guess I should look out for more of his conducting. Shoji is still the violinist who best conveys emotions to me. I am very happy to have enjoyed her playing in a live concert a few years ago. I can't understand why she seems so underrated.

Just before this I watched/listened to the same peace by Sayaka & Temirkanov in Sanct Petersbourg, 2008. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y3-3qeJskJE.html What a big difference is here! Not only her dress, another violin too, and most strikingly different is her demeanor here. Almost all the way she looks down, sometimes eyes are closed. Her face, head, and torso almost immobile in contrast to other videos, no glance at the conductor, not a smile to him (while playing). The complete difference between two performances. Different mood? health condition? Only her playing is beautiful without much difference.
@jansnauwaert1785
@jansnauwaert1785 4 года назад
This has nothing to do with health. Her stamina is just as extraordinary as it ever was. She has become a little bit less "exteriorised", that's all. Her face is still very expressive though. And still has the nicest smile of all top violinists. For me still the best violinist, and God knows how many extremely violinists are out there.

@RO-zo8mp
@RO-zo8mp 4 года назад
