I did a book unhaul of 20+ books just before Christmas and it was like a weight off me. I have a lot more space on my shelves now and I just want to buy more books lol.
I too just unhauled a ton of books- like 15-20. I took them to a used bookstore and got store credit then turned around and bought 12 more books. I'm looking forward to my 12 new adventures!
I try to unhaul regularly so I can make room for better books AND so I can take the old books and get credit at my local used bookstore, I wish they were more normalized in the bookish community
ME TOO!!!!! I *_always_*_ adore_ Jesse's editing; it's literally what I subscribed for, along with his humor and good vibes! ^-^ 💜 I always finish watching a jessethereader video smiling & feeling refreshed, somehow, in the best ways possible🤭 It's always a super fun & creative time!!!!
everything you said about bridge of clay was my exact thoughts about the starless sea tbh! i *adored* the night circus and was ready to devour the next thing erin morgenstern released, but i felt like it was trying too hard to be... pretty? and nothing really happened? it was boring??? but the disappointment taught me that not everything an author touches turns to gold, and that's okay~
You should make a bookshelf organizing vlog. It would be very interesting to see how someone else organizes their shelves. I always spend forever on my shelves and then end up tweeking them a little more every day until I think they’re good enough.
Thank you for sharing your code! Just got my first two books off Pango & I'm excited to get them. (For those that care I got LOTR: Two Towers and Return of the King)
I feel like I'm the only person who loved Bridge of Clay haha, but then I also adored his book I Am the Messenger which people who loved The Book Thief also didn't like. Zusak's writing is just everything to me.
Oh my, not the unhauling of we are okay. That's def one of my favs, one that really expounded upon what it means to be lonely and in search of fulfillment, taught me again that self love and acceptance is the only path there. *Insert 80 paged essay on why you should retry this book and not unhaul* I mean, you do you, but Jesse, might you reconsider?
For me getting rid of books it's always 'Ok did I like this book? Did I like it enough that I will reread it? Am I still interested in wanting to read these unread books? Does this unread book description still hold my interest? How long has this unread book been on my shelf?' I get a lot of my books from goodwill and ill find books I'm interested in but never read them.
I just wanna say, it makes me really happy that you're posting so many videos in the last few days. And your editing style never ceases to make me laugh. Thank you
If I read it and didn't really like it or if I haven't read it in years and have to talk myself into wanting to read it then its got to go. I love your videos they always make me laugh.
You know, simultaneously both loving and hating a book in different ways for different reasons or whatever IS _totally_ OKAY! And so is unhauling a book because it just didn't work for you. 😊 I've literally never unhauled a book in my life though..but I don't actually own that many😅😅 (only a couple hundred) 😅 *Thank You* for another GREAT video, as always! ^-^
You make me wanna look at my bookshelf and u haul again. How I choose? If I didn't like it, if it was a meh/just okay book that if I got rid of I won't feel bad it's missing (this one is tricky and need to be a pile on the ground for a week for it to be believable), and or maybe books I will never ever reread again.
Always love unhaul videos! I have gotten rid of a lot of books last year. All the books I hadn't read yet and a lot of others. I now only keep books I have given 5 stars and want to reread often. So I only own like 50 books now haha, I actually love it
we are okay was one of my top books in 2020 and i tried rereading it in 2021 and i couldn’t even make it half way😭 i think i enjoyed it because i got through it in one night and it made me feel successful 😂
Jesse, I’m reading Kingdom Of The Wicked and so far I’m enjoying it, very excited to see where it goes . I’m also reading So This Christmas and I’m not enjoying it but if it’s not impressive by chapter 5 then I’m going to read The Lucky List or The Sky Blues .
I never used to get rid of books. Partly because I only bought books I really loved already or new I would love. Then I got rid of a couple dozen. Now I still limit what I buy, but am more open to the idea of “re-homing” books.
A book unhaul is always healthy in my opinion; it's a good way to get rid of books that you don't like or have no interest in, and to make room for books that you'll love. Also, amazing video as always, Jesse 👍 ❤; the editing is amazing!!! I have some books that I want to get rid of, but haven't gotten around to doing it yet (three of them are Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock; A Lite Too Bright; and Midnight Sun). I usually get rid of books if I didn't like them.
Loving seeing more unhauls! Also, I did not expect the twerking in this video lol. ... but I liked we are okay. ALTHOUGH I cannot argue with your points, it is quite the conversation starter :P
I haven’t gotten rid of anything recently but I did make a milk crate filled selection of books to read then donate/sell. I just don’t have the space for them and if I love any, I’ll keep them. But I’m planning to move out in the next year so gotta pack lighter
I have the ones we were meant to find and I feel the same way you do Jesse the only thing I really liked about it was the aesthetic like the island and then the super high-tech
🙈 I got rid of all of my books recently in favor of my e reader. I’ve tried all kinds of book lights but with my poor vision, I was finding it really difficult to read physical books. Also, I have pretty nasty carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome and found it difficult to hold them up. I enjoy the adjustable font type, size and light warmth and brightness on my kindle as well as the built in clock and dictionary. I definitely miss my wall of books but I didn’t plan on re reading the majority of them any way and I can always watch videos like this to look longingly at covers lol.
I did a lot of unhauling in 2021 and I have a list of books going to continue the unhaul the next time I’m at my mom’s place. Most of them were duplicate copies that I realized I really didn’t need but some of them are books I’ve read that I gave 1 or 2 stars to or that I realized I was never going to read. It’s very therapeutic to say ‘see ya’ to those books 😂
I used to just do an unhaul whenever I reorganise my books. But now, I just dump books on my unhaul pile whenever I see it. Most recently it was Vespertine which was a dnf. I also have a few rules, some of which I know you don't that keeps me unhauling. One of these is to have multiple editions of any book. Another is to only keep books that I will reread. And there are many more. I have also made a reread to see if I keep pile for books I am on the fence about, and it has been really working for me so far. Some books have returned to my shelves, and some have been unhauled.
If I rated a book under 3⭐, it is off my shelf. I ain't got space to keep ones I wasn't happy with. I just donated The Dressmaker, Mirage, An Affair of Poisons, and Mutiny on the Bounty.
2020 made it harder for me to get rid of books because my brain is like "WHAT?!? Are you crazy? Remember when the library was CLOSED?!? What if you run out of reading material?!" lol
My biggest problem right now is getting rid of books I haven't read. Does the synopsis still sound interesting? Does reading the first couple of pages hold my interest? Does a large block of text in the middle of the book hold my interest? Do I think I might actually attempt to read it in X timeframe (months, years, etc.)?
Even though my book collection is pretty small and I've a lot of space for books, I know I'll never get rid of any of my books even if I didn't like them.
I’m always in conflict to unhaul mangas. Books are rather easier-ish… But recently it’s hard too. Sooo… I’ll see what I will put away of my shelf and sell/donate (in case there is somewhere I can donate in my area)
I’m so bad at unhauling books, I don’t know if it’s an anxiety thing, but I just overthink the whole thing! 🙈 I’m even overthinking *you* unhauling books 😂
Lol. If I didn't like it, it goes. And if I'm not going to reread it, it goes. I try to be picky about what I buy though (I try to only buy books I've read and loved, try being the key word), so I don't unhaul often.
I usually get rid of books I just don't like and give them to an independent bookstore. It's nice getting credit so I can buy more books for stinking cheap!
I had the same feelings about Bridge of Clay, I loved the other two books I read by Markus Zusak but I did not like that book nearly as much as the others. I was thoroughly confused on the message and what the point of the story was.
My unhauling of books is basically just throwing them at my sister (not literally because they are books, and they are delicate unlike my sister's skull) though I've never officially unhauled any books even though I really should since some of them are from when I was like 8 or 9 and frankly lily the angel in training, despite her sparkly pink sprayed edges just doesn't do it for me anymore (for context I've been reading for fun since I was about 7 years old and I am currently only 15 which is why I still have a bunch of children's books lying around my bookshelf, some middle grades are awesome and I would love to reread them anytime others not so much) also throughout primary school half the books I read were classics from the school library so that's also an added factor
Tbh I wanna get rid of all of my books except a few that are really important to me. Like I can’t get rid of Hunger Games or Unfortunate Events. But everything else is just sitting on my bookshelf and I get the books I actually want from the library.
Automatic unhaul if it's less than 3 stars, unless it has some kind of special memory attached to it. I also may unhaul if it's a 3 and I don't want to look at it anymore. I want to look at my shelves and be happy, not reminded of books I didn't like.
If I don't like a book I try to get rid of me. I will get it more than one chance but if I feel like I am forcing myself to read it then I just stop and dnf it. I hate not liking a book but it does happen sometimes. I am slowly learning it is okay to dnf a book bc I have so many others I need to read.
Oooh..ive hit a major low in my life lately. All the books i pick up to read make me wanna Thanos snap every copy from existence. 😔 Making me jaded from wanting to read ever again lol. Like will i EVER learn to love again~ I just bought Dune after Christmas cause i thought the cover was just GORGEOUS. I hope this wont cause me more pain cause it was $40.🙃
I don't really have a space problem so far, but books i do unhaul go straight into the booklibary I have outside my house. Most of the time those are books I did not like or which I thought I will never read. So far I enjoy almost every book that I read but sometimes I do think if I need to unhaul would this be one I would unhaul??? I don't think I quickly would for books I read so far, but maybe in the future I will unhaul more as I will eventually get space problems 😂
