Saying Goodbye

I am so sorry for your loss dear. I lost my dog 4 months ago and it is still devastating for me when I remember her... I hope you will feel better soon!

Oh Darlin! I'm soo sorry! I know exactly what that's like. I'm so sorry. When my dog, Cooler, had to be put down I was a wreck. I got him for my 9th bday and we had to put him down on my 16th bday...how weird... Granted, not 17 years, but he was our life. He went everywhere with us and sat in either mine or my Mom's lap. We had to put him down because of his bad back. He was a weenie dog and had started having secures and we couldn't help him and didn't have the money for back surgery that was basically just been done one time at that point. I grieved and was a mess for months. Later another weenie, Lucky, Mom got him for my 18th bday and we had him 16 years. I got married 7 years ago and he stayed with my Mom afterward, A couple of years after I married, Mom became disabled and had to quit her job and move in with me and my hubby. She of course brought Lucky. The apartment complex threw a fit, but he was basically blind from cataracts, and was just old. There was no way I was gonna give him up or take him to the pound. I had a neighbor who was a vet at the time and she watched him close with us. Eventually it became apparent that he was going and she asked if we wanted to put him down to ease his old age type suffering and I'll never forget what my Mom said. "Will you put me down when I get his age or will you just let me die naturally and in peace?" It was a very big deal with the family and of course we had the apartment complex breathing down our necks to do something. What's more humane? Let them die naturally or keep them from more pain and discomfort by putting them down? It's so hard when it's a family pet and everyone has an opinion. Ultimately we let him go in his time, but that was a hard decision. And when it's not their pet, they really don't have an opinion. You are reacting normally and as anyone would who just lost a dear friend. Don't worry about your subscribers. Those who have hearts will understand. Those that don't, well you want them to go elsewhere anyway..... As I am typing, my dog who you see in my profile pic is kicking my laptop in his sleep. Lol! His name is Dean and he is a very rotten weenie. I have had a lot of doxies in my life. Not to replace Cooler, because none can replace him, but to enjoy them for the short time their little bodies are here. Your family was lucky to have 17 years with her and I know the pain and the hole left behind is a great chasm, but try to remember all the good they brought to your lives. It doesn't fill the hole left behind, but it does make it easier. I'm sure you will return to your beautiful self after some grieving. Don't begrudge yourself that. You need it for the healing process. I am sending LOTS of love and prayers for you and your family. Don't worry about us. We didn't lose a dear friend. Keep your head up and take it one day or second at a time.
