Very sad to hear this. I'm sure I'm joined by everyone else in wishing Carol's dad & mum the very best and hope they have a relaxing time with no hassles in the retirement home. It is tragic when you have to sell a home you love and my parents & I had to do that to our home in 2006 due to financial reasons.

My mom was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and I tried taking care of her myself but it’s a hard job, so I made the decision to put her in a memory care facility and she is thriving there💜💜

That’s great she’s doing well there. My dad has Alzheimer’s and my mom pretty bad dementia. I moved them out of their house to senior living community a few years ago but it’s not enough care. Just spent almost 3 weeks with them. It’s really hard. Best wishes to you and your mom. And to Ken and Carol and family. 💕

Very touching...sorry to hear about Carol's Mom and the difficult decision to sell and move into a retirement home. I don't normally comment but I just feel a connection to you and your family, not only are my own parents names Jim and Joan, and in their 80's but my Dad was also a plumber for 35 years and what you said about your Father in law returning to the cottage to assist the new owners with certain aspects of the house that he updated himself is exactly the type of thing my own Dad does and would do for someone. Also I have a nephew named Ben and we live not far from you about40 minutes west. My grandmother had early stages of Alzheimer's and I could tell it was a very difficult time for my Mom so my heart goes out to Carol. You go to many places that we do and it is interesting to see all the common towns and areas frequented the same as us. I first came across your videos after seeing you in one of Adam the Woo's videos and couldn't believe when I recognized some place in your video and new you were local. Sometimes we have just gone somewhere just before or just after you had been there so I'm sure my family and I will run into you one day. Enjoy your content and even got my family hooked on your videos . Also really enjoy when Carol makes appearances or even does her own videos, she is very nice and her voice and demeanor is very calming and pleasant. Also I have to mention that back when Ben worked at Walmart, I did see him once and asked him where to find something in the store but at the time I didn't know who he was but I remembered him when he was in one of your videos because of his puffy hair he had. :-)

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family Ken. My Dad had a beautiful cabin on Tims Ford Lake near Winchester, Tennessee. The sun set directly in front of the cabin. It looked like a bowl of diamonds. Those were the best times of my life, and, my 2 brothers. I will never forget that place. My Dad is now in an assisted living facility. Preserve your memories. Love and peace and prayers. 🙏😔🙏.

Moms and dads, grandparents are all viewed from our youth as protectors, larger than life, having all the answers, leaving us to our childhoods and having fun. We’re children wrapped in the security they provide. Then, as we age and become adults, we see these once strong adults go through the “seasons of life” and age. All of the sudden we’re taking care of them, making decisions for them, selling their homes and honestly it’s gut wrenching. As uncomfortable as this role reversal is it’s a part of life and now we are their protectors. I pray for you and the family as a new season approaches.

Aw Ken I'm sorry. Losing a home is like losing a part of a family. A place that you have created memories with family and friends is almost as hard as a member of your family. I miss my grandparent home were the whole family used to gather. After their passing the family fell apart. I can understand. Just think how the new family will have new memories to contribute to the legacy of this home.

Prayers to your family Ken. My grandmother just turned 92 with dementia & she is healthy but not doing well mentally, so it has been a long road. Very confusing for her because she actually used to run a retirement home for many years so she is constantly confused thinking she is in charge & gets in fights with the staff because she thinks she is their boss. Thank god her younger brother is very sharp still & can visit her everyday.

Such a beautiful cottage, unless you’ve been to that part of Ontario it’s hard to imagine the beauty. It’s tough to have to leave your home, especially after being there for so long. I live in KY and work in a nursing home with a dementia wing. Just make sure you visit often; they often forget names, but are triggered when loved ones appear. Take as many of her personally loved items that the home allows to be with her. It will help keep all of her loved ones, here and gone on, alive for her. God bless. And, one other thing: be kind to her caregivers. People have no idea what it takes to care for more than one dementia patient at one location at the same time. They are specialized at their job, but it is a job. Turnover from burnout happens frequently and it's difficult once a caregiver and patient bond to get them bonded with a new one. The best bonds are always between patient, caregiver, and family.

Hi Ken, my Grannie has had Alzheimers disease for 12 years and been in a care home for most of those years. It's been really hard + visiting her is even harder. The disease has progressed and she can no longer communicate or move without help, but she does stare at me in an odd way, which I like to think means she recognises me deep down. But it does get better. My grandad has had his life re invented, and he now serves as a Deacon in the church, has new friends + a new chapter of giving and service has opened in his life. I dont know why these things happen to good people but I trust that we all have our trials in life. God bless you and your family. Thanks for sharing - take care.

Ken, I'm very sorry to hear this news! Thoughts are with you and the family. My grandma and grandpa had an awesome piece of land. Alot of us grew up there and its also where my grandfather passed away. ( he had a massive heart attack and my grandma found him blue, half in half out of bed, emts tried there best in the house and on the way to the er in town but it just was his time. I miss him everyday) Earlier that day he organized an impromptu picnic that alot of the family got to go to...I chose not to as i had been spending alot of time there recently because I was going thru a fresh break up of 8yrs and I had just got a yellow lab who was like 9 weeks old...my depression got the best of me and i stayed home with my pup...then we got the call that night that he had a heart attack. I rushed there as quick as i could....and as I was pulling down the dead end i saw all the flashing lights and saw them tryimg to bring him back...and let me tell you, they were trying ! I watched him get loaded up and I followed the ambulance to the er....I could see them continuing to do anything they could to save him...but to no avail....i still regret not going to this day, it hurts me deep. I appreciate the memories now, but it's still very easy for me to get hung up on not spending that last day with him and the fam if I'm not careful. I actually developed PTSD from that night watching him try to be brought back, following the ambulance..the flashing lights, all of it. I got PTSD again from a bad car accident that I really shouldn't have walked away from only a couple years acter his death...so needless to say, its a tough road for me with a pretty complex case of PTSD. I go to therapy and use medical marijuana to help the PTSD and both have saved my life. Not long fter he passed my grandma really struggled with the big house /property....and even with company she was lonely living there...and she also developed cancer and c.o.p.d and the combo of that and my grandfather passing was too much for her and she had to sell and kind of start fresh if you will. She went into an apartment complex which is called a senior living complex. It was great for her ( she's no longer with us either and I miss her dearly as well) alot of her friends already lived there as well so, it needed to happen. The stress and sadness on her face living in the big house and then the happiness and stress free living she got to experience after moving out was all the justification we needed to see. It's natual to feel sad losing a house or property that was part of the family for so long....but like I had said...the happiness on her face getting away was enough for me. She needed it and it worked out for the best. I still live 5 minutes from the property which is at the end of a dead end road. I pass it every day on the way to and from work so I make a point to drive by atleast once a week just to keep the happy memories going. The point to all of that is memories are strong and never die and things do get easier in time and I hope, in time, it gets easier for Carrol....and I'm sure it will. Memories are all we have and she will be able to appreciate them in due time. My thoughts and prayers go out to Carrols mom and your entire family!! Stay well buddy and I look forward to future videos! Side note while I'm here...im loving the stealth camping videos too !!👍👍

Oh dear Ken I’m so sorry. It’s a beautiful place. Memories can never be sold.

It is good that Carol and her sister have been working together to help with the care of her mother. This is probably a great comfort and emotional support for her father. It is also good that you all have all stood in solidarity with Carol's father during this major transition. May angels surround Carol's parents and especially Carol. Dementia is tough. Almost no one fully understands or knows unless they've been through it. All best to you, Ken.
