Strawberry Square Mall in Harrisburg Pennsylvania is a small mixed-use mall opened in 1978. The mall is home to the Chockablock Clock, an audio-kinetic sculpture created by George Rhoads. This incredible gizmo features pool balls rolling along tracks while activating noisemakers and moving parts. In late 2022 the clock was removed from the mall to be relocated at Shippensburg university. Join me for a final look at the Chockablock Clock at Strawberry Square!

I remember this clock sculpture. The top section with the clock would activate when the clock struck the hour and the billiard balls would roll from the top down the screw shaped chutes and into the bottom area. Glad to see it is being moved and restored.

He had really cool one smack dab in the Port Authority on 42st in NYC. This was in the early 80s.. it stayed there quite a while. He called it "42 Street Ballroom" ✌️

@RayOutThere We used to run around them two buildings as kids playing manhunt and just being kids. But when I was bored I would just stand there for long periods of time just zoning out listening to sounds and watching the movements. Really cool stuff Thx for igniting them memories.. Merry Christmas ✌️

I think the closed restaurant at 1:30 was the local chain The Gingerbread Man. They used to be in Strawberry Square and their color scheme was green and red like that with some gold. They also have a location in nearby Carlisle, PA and they used to have a location in State College, PA.

It is sad to see a beautiful work of art to leave, but at least it has found a new home. 1:53

That mall is really nice for an older building. The narrow walkways, plants and high skylight roof makes it feel more intimate than a standard issue mall. I hope they replace the clock with some other sculptural element like perhaps a fountain or something that enhances the ambiance of the mall. The clock was cool but it makes alot of noise and due to the complexity of moving parts within it, I can see how it can be high maintenance and expensive to keep up. Glad it is being relocated and refurbished. It would be a cool piece in a noisy circulation space in a museum.
@RayOutThere

Its a really pretty and well maintained space. I can understand why they're moving the clock, it looks like its difficult to take care of

Hate to see it go, but I'm glad it's getting a home at all. It would be tragic if this sculpture were to be destroyed. Long live art

@@RayOutThere similar as in quirky. It's the victoria centre. My favourite mall as a kid was in the city I grew up, Sheffield. The mall was called, meadowhall. I'll send you a link for a video that's on RU-vid. It was an absolutely stunning mall when it first opened around 89/90 I think.🤔 At the time it was the biggest mall in Europe. It had giant arcades, food court, cinemas. Beautiful in all it's glory.

There is a whole generation of us Pennsylvanians that would likely revolt if they destroyed the Chockablock Clock! There used to be a small science center on the top floor that schools would take their students to for field trips, and we would sit and watch the balls in the clock when we ate our lunch or took a break. It was wonderful. Im so glad that Shippensburg Univ. took the clock! Oh, and the reason it looks like an alley between 2 buildings is because it IS an alleyway between buildings. It was just enclosed. Its part of the aesthetic of the mall which is pretty cool.
