We are a special needs family and we face a lot of challenges that other families don't face but we love, laugh, and most importantly we never give up when times are tough. Our family survived a house fire and instead of letting it tear us apart, tragedy has brought us all together and made us stronger. My name is Vanessa I’m an adult with cerebral palsy and autism I’m a part time aac user myself the best way to get her to understand it is to use it EVERYWHERE and put her most desired buttons up front it should go everywhere with her it’s her voice

@@RaisingAutumn the best thing to do is rearrange her home page to be her favorite items and reward her whenever she uses it basically when she says it she gets it

I sometimes watch Autistic Interpretations, about a young lady named Jess who is blind, autistic and has mild CP. She’s 36 and lives with her parents and younger sister. She’s learning so many life skills at home. I also watch Fathering Autism, about an 18 year old girl named Abbie who has severe, nonverbal autism. She’s in a vocational program to learn life skills and she’s becoming more helpful at home.

@@RaisingAutumn you can also see with the school district if maybe you can trial another software I use to snap on an iPad mini and it’s a much smaller simpler layout and very user friendly

Autumn it's getting so smart I can't believe she's 17 now I remember when I first started watching her when she was younger I love seeing her in the pool and I also love seeing you Aubrey you're a great mom and Autumn is so lucky to have you. I feel like when it comes to the AAC device the more you practice the easier will get for her but it also took me like a week or two to consistently remember to use that instead of other means of community but then again I need less support than Autumn does so it might vary

It’s difficult for her to navigate without full support but she has figured out how to navigate her iPad so I think it’s only a matter of time until she can use it independently. I want her to tell us what she wants but I have a feeling when she does tell us we will be in trouble 😅😂

Yes it is hard to say goodbye. I went to a physio place for years and years and I am friends with my therapist on FB (who is retired) which is why we stopped seeing her.
