This video was just something I had to do to have some closure on the vehicle that brought me so much joy and so, so much grief. Goodbye Taco. Now starts a new chapter with Cocoa. And yes, I've already wrenched on her, replacing the factory shocks with Bilstein 5100s. Ah, it begins...
I found your channel pulling the head off my taco. I too have chased every inch of my wire harness and found the one rubbed spot causing grief. Sad day you let her go. Fix a few of those minor repairs and get the dash not lit up and pass inspection that rig would sell for 8,9 grand! As long as the frame is good. I will never let mine go. Thanks for the vids!
Wiring problems are fun huh!? :) I'm still amazed at the resale value of these. I know I left a lot on the table by trading it in to a dealership, but it would have been a lot more work to fix it up and sell it on my own, and I needed the new truck ASAP (family trip the next week!). And of course there was a risk that the catalytic converters wasn't all it needed to pass emissions, and I didn't want to chase problems. For me the time was right to let go. Some day when I have the extra time and cash I will definitely like to fix up another tacoma....as long as I don't have to rely on it for transportation! :) Good luck with yours, hope it runs forever.
I just never trade in. I am giving them a free title as they wholesale your rig to another lot for a messaley few hundred dollars and they get the as is, where is truck that might get a complete body cleaning and tidy. They rarely fix anything as its a running rig so don't fix it and their customer will spot something that if fixed will buy and they have a way of getting that cost back as well. If you had sold it for two thousand on the street corner as a as is/where is, it would be gone in short time, and if you wanted it all, sell on market place for another seven fifty on top and it would go in say one weeks time. In the meantime, you look at a few rigs an find what fits your needs and get a commitment to sell and drive it for a week.. on the dealers dime. I think your allowed two hundred miles on those types of deals and if you go over then you do pay a difference of. Now if you take the rig, they wave the penalty and all is well. Bottom line your able to haggle the price down a few thousand on a two year old truck, which is the year of and this year be it a week or eleven months, twenty nine days. They can really move prices and your not buying your trade in back through interest n other things they can legally do to you. In this case it pays to go to the dealer and get your new truck warranties an all the fluid changes. That right there makes for a huge savings that they do all the oil and filters for its life. Its also a deal where they point out necessary repairs. Its cheaper for them to repair if its hundreds than if you do it like replace a transmission. At least take to a couple of shops and get bids to repair. At one time I owned the largest second hand repair shop for subaru's only. I made too much money doing that and it was a real eye opener. I had about thirty men I kept on my staff. I learned more at what I was doing than the money and when sold, made a ton of money off the business licence. So unless its a every year trade in, never trade in to the dealer that you are going to buy from. Since your toyota was nice looking, you could of put it up to the local dealers and let them bid to you a final sale and sold it in two days total. Those deals will offer you up to eighty percent of offer in sold today and you have money in hand and they do the work. The biggest business in america is the detail shops. My son owned his own and made himself six large in three years and then sold it for a six figure which made him in pocket seven figures... he used that to do a similar deal and has grown quite wealthy. hes forty seven now as of last month. He has traveled around the world an never had to join the service to do that. .... I did.
Some people I tell it's because I used to be an EMT (that's true) but really it's the Red Hot Chili Peppers logo. It marks a significant point in my life.
A lot of memories tied up in a vehicle you've had for 16 years. For sure you're gonna miss her....but $4,000 is a marvellous deal. And the new truck is a beauty. Enjoy!!
