Very good I’m impressed! He sounds like a native speaker for sure! Soninke,🇲🇷 Bambara 🇲🇱 🇸🇳,Malinke🇬🇳 and Dioula🇨🇮 🇧🇫 are very beautiful languages and I’m glad as an Ivorian we have such wonderful people on our land. I think the reason they have different names is because if there accents with Soninke being a different language there pretty much the same.I am Akan my people and the madinka have a very good relationship and we are very similar in a lot of ways.Many other people groups like the Wolof,the mooré and my people the akans have mastered there tonge too due to the importance in the region so it’s a language that’s unifies us kinda like Swahili I’m east Africa even though the majority of us know French .
@Ankataa
@Ankataa 5 лет назад
Thanks for this insightful comment, Fae! Glad that you pointed out that Soninke is a distinct language -- many people (and sources) on the internet frequently include it incorrectly in Manding -- which is made up of Bambara, Malinké, Dioula and Mandinka as you said :-)

@@Ankataa May I ask, how was it as a foreigner to learn their language? I am quite curious i myself know a lot about languages, but I had no heard anything about Bambara.
@Ankataa
@Ankataa 5 лет назад
@@vio3366 Of course you can ask :-) It was a joy and a wild ride -- I was serving in the Peace Corps when I started learning it so I was fortunate enough to have a strong teacher before being immersed in the language every day. That said, I could have opted to just use French, but I knew that it would shut me off from most of the people that I was meeting and interested in learning from and working with. It certainly wasn't easy; I often sounded like a fool and didn't know what was going on around me, but I was learning so much about different histories and ways of living in this world that it was an obsession and a passion for me through out the two years. It also helped that I was lucky enough to find friends that were willing share their language and lives with me.

That used to be that case here in Costa Rica too about 50 years ago; everyone would greet each other on the street as they passed by, but it has been lost to the point it only remains in very small towns and especially among older people. It's a shame, but at the same time I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it. I guess it's the way I was brought up.

It's amazing how in The United States if you are from the South,you are taught to say Good morning to people as you go on your way. It is one of the many African retentions in our culture. My wife smiles when, I speak to her in Bambara. I picked up some in The Gambia, and my family is in Cote D'ivoire. I had to pickup French,but it is important that my daughter retains her Bambara,so I am intentional about learning it as well. Salaams wa nur pour tous le monde

That is actually very interesting. I am from western europe, and, I remember people greeting eachother much more about 20 years ago. Maybe that's because I was a kid then and the world was more shiny. Or perhaps because individualism and ego have grown thanks to the internet. But either way - people tend not to greet eachother where I live. However, I do enjoy it, and so, I do greet people - not everyone, but people who look open to it and friendly. It's nice to get insights into the culture of those in this video as I actually immediately relate to basically everything they are saying :D and that's kind of the first time properly relating to other humans on this. I think everywhere, strangers should greet - for even just one of the numerous solid reasons given in this video.
