The urban setting of Predator 2 works so well for me. I love the near-future as envisioned by the 90s. It’s bleak, dystopian, has a heat wave you can almost feel through the screen

Just my gut feeling, but it seems that Predator 2 has become much more appreciated in recent years. Perhaps it is nostalgia, or recent films not being very good, but there is some fondness for the film.
Yeah, I really feel like AvP 2004 is a lot better than people give it credit for, but Requiem is a contender for one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
I'd watch AvP Requim over AvP 2004 any day of the week. As bad as Requim is at least Wolf is phenomenal throughout. If it wasn't for the lighting or lack of it'd be at least a mediocre film. AvP was a PG-13 mess that ignored basically every established fact about both creatures written by a man who seems to go out of his way to spit on canon in everything he is involved in.

A lot can be argued, but ill just point out the scenes where he let the girl live and then arnie stops her from picking up a weapon so she isnt seen as a "threat" (Him not attacking her can be seen as a "code"). Were talking about a monster who hunts for trophy's, no shit he's not the good guy, but this particular monster does have "A" code sir.
It's not really a 'code of honor' but a 'fun factor'. To understand a Predator, you only need to understand human hunters. There is a reason hunters like to hunt big game instead of crushing cockroaches. For them, it's a game, and a game should be fun. They like the thrill of a hunt, and love collecting trophies (and probably tell stories of their explots when returning home: 'see that huge hooman cranium in the wall? It was the largest and ugliest hooman i ever saw, it was this big (gestures with the paws). I didn't know hoomans could grow that big. And, you know what? I killed it by with my bare claws') At least that was the case in the first movies.

I'm with you Josh, I watched Predator 2 for the first time last year and I absolutely loved it. Something about that Robocop vibe combined with Predator antics just worked for me. I'm glad I'm not alone in liking it!
I literally apologized for convincing my family to go see AVP Requiem with me on Christmas. I still apologize to this day for it. And, yes. That movie was released on Christmas day. So weird.
Really like the "one nice thing" series of videos. Bad movies can have excellent moments and good movies can have bad moments. The hospital scene in Alien V Predator Requiem is the closest any of the films came to replicating the horror of Alien. I think that is why it upsets a lot of people.
P2 over P1 is bold. P1 is the crown of the franchise for me and I disagree with you, Predator is one of the few Arnold movies that doesn't feel like an Arnold movie, the Predator is clearly the star.
One nice thing I'd say about every film: Alien: Almost the entire film is eligible, but I gotta give it to the xenomorph design. The best alien design in film and inspired so many sci-fi franchises Aliens: Again, this is a near-perfect film IMO, but I'm gonna give it to Ripley and her character growth. This film basically cemented her as one of the greatest female action stars Predator: Like with aliens, the predator design is so iconic. Though watching it now, I realized how the film takes the 80s action movie tropes and flips those rules on their heads. Can just full auto machine guns from the hip and just hit the predator. Predator 2 Is definitely a guilty pleasure film of mine. The best moment had to be the alien skull in the trophy room that basically canonized these two aliens being in the same universe and opening a floodgate of content. Alien 3: This is definitely the most mixed film in the series. Definitely some weird blue screen and story decisions. But It also had some great shots including this xenomorph's birth and the iconic shot of it in Ripley's face. Alien Resurrection: Arguably my least favorite in the Alien franchise, but two scenes I genuinely loved were the xenomorphs killing one of their own so they can use the acid to escape and the underwater scene. Alien vs Predator: Honestly just the first onscreen face-off of these two iconic aliens is cool on its own. The final battle between the lead, the predator, and the queen was a fun finale. AVP 2: I liked this movie as a kid when I was obsessed with these creatures, but this film is awful on rewatch. As for my one nice thing, I actually really like the darker mood lighting since it added more sense of dread and tension... nuh I'm just kidding. I do though really like the predator in this one basically being a clean-up man cleaning up the xenomorph infestation (fun fact: this predator, nicknamed Wolf, got that name because of it having a similar clean-up job to Mr.Wolf from Pulp Fiction) Predators: As a fan of the comics, I love that they introduced the bad blood predators (basically rogue predator criminals that either broke the rules of their hunt or hunted their own kind). And their designs are some of the best predator designs in the franchise IMO. Prometheus: Michael Fassbender was a show stealer, but I might have to give it to the visual effects themselves (especially that incredible shot of the Prometheus first landing) Even if I'm more mixed on this film, it was worth seeing in theaters just for the music and visuals Alien Covenant: This one was frustrating because you can tell it struggled to balance appealing to Prometheus fans, but also retconned a bunch of stuff set up in that movie so we can fast forward and appeal to the Alien fans. I will say I do like the end fakeout with Michael Fassbender. That was a "oh shit" twist. The Predator: Out of all these films, this one makes me the angriest because it feels like nothing more than one big troll to Predator fans and either makes fun of every aspect of the Predator or changes it to something more generic or lame. One nice thing I'll throw it is some of the kills were kinda funny in an over-the-top way. But ya, fuck this movie for almost killing the franchise. Prey: If The Predator almost killed the franchise, this one reinvigorated it with some fresh new ideas and was really fun. A lot of things could be praised, but I absolutely love the concept of the predator first arriving on Earth and basically working its way up the food chain from little snakes and wolves to bears and humans (and of course collecting trophies along the way). Alien Romulus: Figured I'd throw this one in even if it wasn't covered in the video, but just like Prey for Predator, I feel this film reignited a lot of people's interest in Aliens. While not perfect, it was definitely a fun watch and for me personally, I love how it went back to basics on what makes Alien great from the practical effects, the sets, the sound design, and the tone. While the xenomorphs will always be cool no matter how good or bad the films are, this was the first time in a while they actually made me feel tense (especially the face-hugger scenes). I was so pumped for Alien vs Predator. Went into the theater knowing I was a little late, I was surprised the trailers had finished. Turns out I walked into the wrong theater, saw the last 10 minutes and then watched the rest in the theater I was supposed to go to.
With how successful Godzilla vs Kong is I think they should take another stab at Alien vs Predator. Reboot the first film, that had a great premise. But make it rated R and actually make human characters that are memorable.
I'd love to see it done like the games where it's a complete free for all and everyone is out for themselves. I do like the original AvP, just it felt more like Aliens vs Predators teaming up with humans, since the movie very clearly made the Preds the good guys.
Great vid. Love the channel. I legit had no idea until a year or two ago, that people think of Pred2 as a lesser movie. I've always loved it. I still think it does the best job of fleshing out the Pred culture/lore. That includes the comics.
What you said about the different directors is what I’ve always felt and loved about the original 4 alien movies. It seems like no-one ever talks about it! I would like to see each new title bring a different very unique director to put their own lens on it. I feel like that was something that really separates the alien movies from other franchises. Each film feels wildly different, and I love that. Or maybe I’m just lucky in the fact that I’m a fan of each of the directors that did the original 4…?
I may be in the minority, but in Prometheus, Ridley Scott should have kept the more xenomorph-like Fifield from the deleted scene rather than the zombie-like one. That was much more disturbing and creepier design than the one in the final movie.

I've heard people refer to it as big chap thousands of times.... dozens of Facebook fan groups & many 45+yr old fans especially... I just refer to it as a drone..
If I remember correctly "Big Chap" was a nickname used by the cast and crew of the original Alien movie for the Xenomorph itself, which the fans ended up adopting.
I have a weird nostalgia for alien because the first time I saw it was the scene in alien resurrection where Call hooks up to the computer. Then years later I saw AVP and it was the first alien movie I saw in theaters. But it wouldn’t be till I went on the great movie ride like a year later that I would see what the original movie was like. And i basically rented them and watched them back to back.
Super gassed at the Predator 2 love. Absolutely up there for me, too. Its so hard to list these for me. Once you get past the real chaff, its banger after banger. Like the olympic 100m, there's only decimal points between top contenders!
I am so so happy to come across someone else who rates Predator 2 so highly. I am absolutely in love with it. It works on so many levels. The horror of it hits more than say Predator, what with it being set in a city over say a jungle because I am more likely to be in a city than a jungle 😂. The subway scene is just an absolute classic 🎉

The unrated version of AVP makes the kills and chest burster scene a little bloodier and helps put the edge lost to the pg13 rating back in just a bit.
While I have a lot of problems with The Predator (I’m autistic), I legitimately love Thomas Jane & Keegan Michael Key in their respective roles, and how nuisanced they were. Plus the movie has a twisted sense of humor I kinda dig.
I get the feeling that the one from Prey is a different variation than the more regular ones. Also, that it was more of a little kid on a field trip than the teenagers from AvP. Didn't seem to fully understand his own gear. As for something positive about Requiem: Wolf. I'd love to see some movies dealing with his past. According to the lore, his face is scarred and his left eye blinded from the time he took down a Queen.

AVP 2004 is severely underrated and i always loved the movie. The Predators were Badass like always and the Aliens were very cool. It was actually my first introduction to both franchises because it was the only one i could watch as a kid as it's rated PG-13. Predator 2 was always appreciated in the real world. First time i heard predator 2 was "bad" was from the internet which was primarily made up of spoiled gen x white males for most of the 90s early 2000s until high speed became accessible to the everyday person.

When I was a kid, I gravitated towards Predator 2 and Aliens more. As an adult, I am more fond of Predator and Alien. I really loved all the gadgets the Predator was able to play with in Predator 2. I don't really have an affinity for either AvP movies. I remember all the games, collecting all of the comics, and the action figures, and they all took place around the time of the 2nd film. So naturally, when the first AvP movie came out I was pretty bummed that it took place in 2004 Earth. Also, I absolutely hated the designs of the Predator costumes. They looked like football (US) players all geared up or something. Something was really off about their faces too. Anyway, that was a fun little video, thanks!
I was given predator 2 on vhs before I think I had heard of predator and I watched it well over a dozen times before I ever saw the Arnold original, so it will always have a soft spot for me over it’s predecessor. I kind of think of prey as the inverse of predators. The first half is dull as it’s so completely tropey of “girl wants to do thing, her peers laugh and say girl never do thing” and I’m just waiting for them to get on with it as it’s very very obvious by the end “girl will do thing to astonishment of peers” but once they add the trappers and she has more to react to than her peers it’s so much better.
The gore in The Predator is actually really solid and some of the best in the series in my opinion. You could have had that as your positive point for it.
I guess I'm the only one who thinks The Attack of the Clones, was the best of the prequel movies. There are so many positives. I thought Ewan McGregor did really well with Obi, again. I thought older Anakin was........ less annoying than young Anakin. And he even had some strong parts like when his mom died and the emotions he showed. And again when he killed the sand people as revenge for his moms death. Natalie Portman was hot AF. You got to see Yoda's light sabre skills. And I thought the special effects, especially during the big battle was a feast for the eyes. I thought it was visually stunning. Yes, the "sand gets everywhere" speech was cheesy as hell, but TBH, I hardly noticed because I was to busy drooling over Portman the whole time in that scene. Oh.....and most importantly......VERY LITTLE JAR JAR BINKS!! What's not to like?
It's easy to say one nice thing about all of the movies, creature design is always on point. Doesn't matter how bad the story or acting is, the alien and the predator themselves will never not be cool.
I very much enjoy Alien 3, always have… I don’t mind controversial story changes in bleak worlds like main characters being killed off. Didn’t mind Joel being offed in The Last of Us 2 either. Alien Resurrection is also just fun, and I feel like if they had done something else with the third act it could have been a lot better. For some reason, every time it comes on I thoroughly enjoy watching it.
Alien: it is one of the most atmospheric horror films ever made Aliens: James Cameron is a master of making action Predator: a great balance of horror of action Predator 2: Danny Glover is good in it Alien 3-I find the ending incredibly moving, and the movie itself underrated. Resurrection-Ron Perlman is fun. AVP-it is competently done from a production standpoint. Requiem-The Predator is cool in it(this was a hard one to look for good stuff) Predators-one of the most underrated sci-fi movies I can recall seeing. Prometheus-one of the best looking films I have ever seen Covenant-David is fascinating The Predator-Jacob Tremblay is a very talented young actor Prey-Naru is the best protagonist of any Predator film. Romulus-Andy has quickly become one my favorite characters in the Alien franchise. Oh, and the movie is great too.
Predator: The best thing about this movie is that you have a monster so cool that it overshadows Arnold Fuckin Schwarzenegger. This is really the only Arnold movie where it isn't labeled as an "Arnold Schwarzenegger" movie.

Alien. One of the most influental scifi horror movies out there. Aliens. One of the best action movies ever made. My personal favourite in Alien saga. Alien 3. Dissapointment but the jail planet idea was great, I cannot deny it. Alien Resurrection. Blegh. It is just bad. But what stood out to me even after seeing it just once was the scene with all those failed Alien + Ripley hybrids. That was genuinely shrilling and I still remember it. Predator. Classic, it just works. Predator 2. My personal favourite. I loved the idea of the Predator in an "asphalt jungle" and it has the best dying screams ever recorded in a movie. The one where Predator finally bites the dust I mean. Predators. It starts out fine but as said in the video it runs out of steam towards the end. AvsP. I loved the PC games but I HATE THIS MOVIE. I hated this as a teen and I hate it now. They took everything that made both Alien and Predator special and turned it into a generic PG13 action film that runs with "cool bro factor" rather than substance. Que in cringe slowmo action scenes and so on. I literally cannot think of anything good to say about this. AvsP 2. Well, at least it is R rated again and Predalien itself is badass. Prometheus - The first movie that made me genuinely angry in the movie theater. But visually the movie is pleasing to look at. The rest I haven't seen. *edit* I forgot about Prey. I wouldn't say it good, probably on par with Predators but unlike that movie Prey doesn't run out of steam and stays enjoyable to the end.
This is nice. One nice thing about each Alien movie and predator movie. I know what you mean about Alien 1979. We need more than one word. I am obsessed from a young age. With the alien franchise. Very productive. Like a mother is over her child. As for predator! I love it too. Another exciting franchise. Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Is like Alien franchise with sigourney Weaver. Just perfect. Please Hollywood have respect for these two franchise.
I mostly disagree with your top list. I love Predator (1987), Predators and Prey, but don't like Predator 2. I love Aliens (1986) more than Alien (1979) and I prefer Alien Resurrection over Alien 3 (which is a bad movie IMHO). AvP is an interesting movie. The rest is completely forgettable for me.

You failed to mention Paul W.S Anderson's Event Horizon, the best movie of his career in my opinion. It's the closest he ever get to matching the direction and atmosphere of the first two Alien movies and the reason he got the job. Sadly he didn't capture the same mood and atmosphere in AVP.

The ranking list at the end reminded me of how much the naming convention for these movie bothers me lol. I understand that few companies number things anymore, because it drives audiences away making them think they have to be in the know about the franchise, but I do miss it when we could simply call it Predator 3, Predator 4, Alien 4, so on. Alien vs Predator: Requeim is a shit movie, the only good thing I can say about it, is that I watched it with my friends in high school at the theater, and we made fun of it between ourselves the whole way, memeing about very dated things, like how the hybrid was the "Alienator" and the Predator was the "Norrisator" (as in "Chuck Norris"... yes...), it is a fun memory, regardless of the bad movie. Great stuff! I need to watch Prey sometime.
Prey is probably my favorite Predator movie. Relying mostly on character development, story, and brilliant fight choreography, it's a perfect example of "Less is More".
6:07 - Hell even the military fetishism carries a bit more nuance than one would expect since the movie goes out of its way to build these guys up as the most badass well prepared well trained well equipped squadron of soldiers this side of the universe only to have them get absolutely hoed in the streets by a bunch of "feral animals". There is just a whole book of possible social commentary you can pull from that aspect. 6:29 - Oh yeah speaking of military fetishism badasses getting hoed in the streets by a literal beast XDXDXDXDXDXDXD 6:43 - Yeah seriously can we just take a minute to appreciate that this movie is pretty much a complete dismantling deconstruction of the stereotypical "Arnold Schwarzenegger Film" formula whilst also starring the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger himself? 19:18 - Oh fuck do I even wanna know?
I will never, ever forget being sat in the cinema with my friends to watch Alien vs Predator: Requiem... The scene early on where some kid drops his keys down a grate, so his brother decides the best idea is to fucking climb down into the actual sewer like it's... well, the best idea. And then every scene after I managed to sit through being nothing but people making decisions no actual human would ever make. AvP: Requiem is the only cinema screening that I'd paid for that I've walked out on. And seeing it again years later... yeah, it's a fucking awful movie.
'Predator' is a masterpiece of action cinema; there's not a frame of film in the finished edit of that thing that shouldn't be there. Considering they had to re-shoot so much and then ended up creating one of the greatest sci-fi characters of all time... 'Aliens' is an example of how to make a fucking sequel; it pays absolute respect to the original and does nothing that could lessen it's predecessor's ability to be considered and enjoyed as one of the greatest and most game-changing pieces of sci-fi cinema ever made. And the fact that James Cameron managed to craft such a masterclass of technical movie making techniques as well as a superbly written and paced story where every single character was so iconic they instantly became a staple of the genre... yeah, I'll always show my love for 'Aliens'. That movie is full of so, so many masterful moments - pieces of dialogue/character archetypes/in-camera special effects/storytelling beats/expertly crafted action set-pieces/iconic imagery- it's crazy knowing that James Cameron managed to pull it off with the amount of bullshit he had to contend with when making that thing. Anyway, I'll finish my rant of with this; 'Prometheus' and 'Alien: Covenant' are simply beyond my comprehension; Ridley Scott directing them doesn't make them as less fucking stupid as the two AvP movies.
My ranking would be a little different from yours as I'm in the group that prefers Aliens to Alien, but I think it's because I saw Aliens first. It's also nice to hear someone say good things about Predator 2. I like the first one more, but the second one is an underrated banger.
💪 damn good video brother! Just a heads up, there is a comic for the after events of 2010 predators. Now I'm not suggesting you make a video out of it but if you're interested in the Predator alien series it's definitely a decent story and worth a read.
