Just so we're all clear, Dr Seuss didn't necessarily deserve the credit for this. It came from a quote from 1946 by Bernard Baruch concerning sitting or something of that nature.
@@RunninUpThatHillh Every person is flawed, and corrupted in some way, I imagine you have done some horrible things in your life. Me, I used to steal things as a kid...and still do.
One of my very best friends told me (not that long ago) that "my personality" was so hard for her to get used to!!! 😂😂😂 So basically I'm an aquired taste!! Now that is a compliment. I'm like a fine wine or expensive bourbon ha!
You really cannot be understood if the the other person is not judging you. If they are not judging and evaluating you than they are only understanding the you that lives in their mind.
There is something about aging that make one less effected by what other people think. You finally take to heart the fact that you will not please everybody. Yourself is the one you have to live with.
Yup I spent most of my life pleasing and trying sooooo hard only to develop fibromyalgia, a disease where the body turns into a prezel of pain everywhere. Now at 71 I'm learning to be me for the first time and the pain recedes on it's own.
Stress elevates cortisol, excess cortisol messes with blood sugar and hormones and adrenals. Yes, as said already, the body heals itself when you remove the stressor.
@@davespencer1951 how would one go about introducing this information to a friend suffering from chronic pain? I want to help & not offend. please advise ♡
@@hayleyb467 i would find relatable people who talk about this, maybe a RU-vid video or a fb live. Someone like Dr Sten Eckberg is an amenable chap and quite knowledgeable too.
You know I'm not like everyone else and I don't value the things that everyone else values but like I don't really see anything all that weird about me I mean I'm just not into everything that is normal which doesn't necessarily mean you're weird right?
totally. and the foreshadowing of his work now. shows his integrity. i knew him back when , and just admire the guy so much. so much that, i have decided to just emulate him, copy him entirely, since he is well-liked now, and he is normal. weird comment, sorry ;)
I expect no other quote other than the most unique person I know! ...because the weirdest person is myself like no other self, the most unique person I know is the one above my toes, the one standing in my shadow, the one who knows everything I know, and continues to grow, and loves to be me,sees everything I see, the best person I know is the one standing in the mirror, has my name has the same picture frame, and is certainly Me. 🙂
I thought he got all of his points across clearly using the vehicle of comedy to keep them interested. "Hes not a comedian" why? Because hes not on TV telling jokes? This guy is low key hilarious
I always say "If you weren't a little weird, I'd think you were a little weird". JP does a great job using humor and the absurdity that follows from overthinking and taking ourselves too seriously to point out the obvious that we hide by doing these things.
someone once said to me "if you're not a little on the edge, you're probably taking up too much space.." loved that. he was responding (i think) to me commenting on how weird i was , or something i felt weird about saying
I think it makes us evaluate what he says so much more....like it sinks in deeper because we look over each sentence a couple of times to try to figure it out.
Yeah, we have to learn to be able to take some things that peeps say and love it and not "agree" with it all. AKA - be ourselves - AKA - be weird enough to hold our own opinions & maybe even speak them.
Diddo. I didn't "believe" in it. I called it "nature deficit disorder" , which I do think is true. However, we live in the world. So many things I have to unlearn, and learn something new. Maybe unlearn again. So interesting being human. I'm glad I watched this speech again. Maybe should do it every AM as my pump-up talk.
I feel you. I was 52 when I learned that my weirdness is due to me being autistic. I've always embraced my weirdness, but it was good to put a name to it...
He’s NOT saying don’t have a job nor be proud to have a job. He’s saying not to define yourself by what you do and what everyone thinks you should do. Go within, dig deep and embrace your “weirdness” ie your authentic self. Find what sparks that inner fire within you. If you are getting offended, you’re probably exactly the one who needs to hear this message 😉
I dunno, I think that if a person *truly* enjoys wearing suits and doing their taxes on time, that in itself *is* a type of weirdness to be embraced :P
They're conforming to what society finds acceptable. They didn't come up with those ideas themselves. They picked a few activities that society accepts.
@@timbodnar6711 So what? I think the best thing is for people to be genuinely themselves. And I do think it's weird to enjoy doing taxes, lol, even if taxes themselves are socially acceptable and necessary thing to do. I think if someone was like "oh boy tax time, can't wait to crunch those numbers" and actually meant it, I'd find it to be delightfully quirky :P
@@timbodnar6711 I agree with you Tim. Imagine if money was no object, what would they choose as an occupation for the rest of their lives? To count numbers and do calculations? I suspect not.

The room got so quiet when he started talking about us being kids wanting our parents approval...show's you it hit every one, every one related to that.
Worse is that that's just practice for automating the habits of a lifetime of hiding to gain approval from all manner of others -- who don't even know nor love us: small-minded, self-appointed arbiters.
Well then my work here will be done except only people that want to use mask use them here.....its weird we actually admit and allow the constitution here ....I know that constitution is violating ur right to tell others what their choice is well you ceep doing ur part that's ur choice and I support it
JP you are such an amazing person. You speak so softly yet you make people laugh so hard. I believe your talk about accepting our real selves was very insightful and helpful, so, thanks
@@NataliaDiazJackson ya but like every politicians, if they don’t state they are about we will make assumptions. I get your response. Nothing will happen if we don’t do anything.
He doesn't respect how laws and government function. Elections have consequences. The winners of elections vote on the laws and the punishments. Our society would be better if more people understood that and participated in politics. This guy dissed the whole system a while back and I stopped paying attention to him for he's privileged and doesn't have enough to lose or know what it's like to live without the privilege.
@@scofah Is that all you can say to people you disagree with? Dismiss their alternative view as it could only arise from "privilege" or some severe flaw of their own. The only explanation huh? What if the majority of people, in their own context, were seeing the truth and interpreting things in a valid way? One side thinks it's right, the other side thinks it's right. Either one side are total idiots and the other the only ones in possession of truth and wisdon... OR.... you could try to see it from each others perspective and realise there is something to both positions.
@@scofah First, dont like your own comment Second, he just made a video to help many people out there know where they belong. How themselves, their weirdness, is better than normality And then you, instead of having any valid reason, decide to just jump his politics. Whoopty doo someone disagrees with you politically but still wants to help you.
This is such a strange talk for me to listen to. I have Aspergers, so wierdness is easy. What is difficult is being able to grasp even what normalcy is for everyone else and how it works. Learning how to bridge that gap and meet people in the middle can be a real struggle. Part of that struggle is that the majority of people don't truly want to meet in the middle, they want you to be just like them.
Brilliant. “The cure is inside of you.” I love it. “Your weirdness is a big part of what makes you, you.” Brilliant. “The purpose of life has a lot to do with you actually giving yourself the permission to be the miracle that you are and expressing it, not hiding it.” “The purpose of life is being yourself.” Genius. “No one has ever inspired other people by excelling at normalcy.” Well said. Bravo 👏 “I think we are all very thirsty to experience ourselves.” We must overcome our fears of rejection and learn to truly accept ourselves to begin to experience who we really are. “It is my dogmatic belief that our weirdness always leads us to who we really actually are. Not to who we think we are or want to be but something far more significant. It leads us to actually who we really are.” “Are you willing to risk saying yes to you being you.”
The older I get, the less I care about what people think of me. It feels so good to be weird and to be completely comfortable when doing so. Life is good!
I love everything he said, I do however think being able to relate to people (chameleon) in their presence can also be a skill , not just a coping mechanism to avoid rejection. I'm a nurse and I change my approach from family to family by discerning the atmosphere and being able to be relatable to a variety of people . I think it can be a skill when not being a way of hiding
idk even as a nurse or in healthcare or whatever....if you change your approach it means you are tryingg to avoid something (like a special reaction or smth) ...and that means you are also kinda trying to hide...... I'm just torn between "you are right" and "is it just some unconscious excuse?"
You can be entirely yourself even if that involves certain "shifts" that might accompany certain atmospheres - I think that for the most part, being yourself is something that does not change depending on who you're around, but still to some extent, there are situations where "being yourself" would, to the best of your judgement, be _received_ on their end inaccurately such that a given shift "away" from how you might have typically responded yields a more highly accurate _reception_ on their end.
JP, Your inner comedian made the videos that led me to hear the insights your humor betrays. You're a great teacher and my life is better because of your insights and your humor. Thank you.
Heartfelt congratulations to JP Sears for sticking to his weirdness for so many years, and NOW finally getting tons of approval and acceptance from so many weirdos (he's really been blowing up since 2021!)
No. He's a privileged right-wing white person (happens to also be male), he encourages people not to engage civically, he disses the power of voting. He shall be ridiculed. He doesn't have enough to lose. He doesn't care. He wants people to suffer so he can make fun of them and profit off their misery. Again, he shall be ridiculed. Find other more worthy people to admire. He does not deserve your respect.
@@scofah he speaks the truth in a satirical format...especially his videos from 2020. If you can’t see this then that is ok. Not everyone has eyes to see and ears to listen. You’re probably too busy trying to convince everyone you’re right in your misguided beliefs. 👌
This guy has gone off the rails with his videos making fun of people wearing masks and promoting anti-vaxxing, then tries to sell cheap "healt" products. Ted Talks should have some integrity and take this off and not give him any more promotional opportunities to sell his electrolyte products...

@@Stranger_In_The_Alps what do you believe in them ? Why are you so sure you’re right to mock Jesus Christ of Nazareth dying on the cross for the your own sin?
@@Stranger_In_The_Alps ah yes, one of my favorites as well. No mocking here at all. It's a damn good story. Filled with love, danger, heros, villains and it even has the prerequisite story arc inconsistencies. I heard it was based on a true story as well! Which makes it even more interesting. Though, I'm sure creative license was used with gusto.
I have red hair and freckles too! And am on the spectrum, so I definitely know what it’s like being made fun of as a child and trying try hide my weirdness, instead seeking others’ approval rather than accepting myself. Thanks for the powerful and inspiring message JP!
If that pic on your RU-vid profile is actually you, and of you can accept a compliment from a mid 50s woman (without getting creeped out 😆), you look handsome and like a nice guy.
Yes! Or, we all are masterpieces already, but we need to realise it and let ourselves become the masterpieces that we are. In better words, we're works of art with a blank cover put over them and we need to pull it off to reveal the unique masterpieces beneath.
My 7 year old daughter is going through this at school. She is in second grade and reads at a fifth grade reading level. Other kids pick on her for not reading books with pictures. She tells them she likes to use her imagination. That makes them pick on her more. She says she just wants to fit in. I was thinking kids are cruel but then I thought adults do it too.
Does the teacher and admin know about the bullying? Sounds like there needs to be some lessons taught on respecting differences. However, it's also important that she knows she needs to make friends, even if other kids don't read at her level. She needs to respect and accept that about them. Because we are all more than just our skills.
Have you heard of the UN-schooling movement? Kids wake up every day and decide what they want to learn that day. Kids are born with a natural desire to explore and learn. Schools burn it out of them. Make them drones for the consumer-industrial society.
