Back in the late 60's, I had a '56 Chevy with 327, dual 4's, fuellie heads, 4 speed, 4:11 rear end, cheater slicks and the Duntov 30/30 cam. Valve adjustment was done with engine hot and running with a feeler gage and wrench, got hot on the fingers but worked. Very fast and rpm responsive, and just to show off, would put a dollar bill on the dash to see if the passenger could grab it before hitting the floor under a hard launch. Most of the time I would keep the bill. It would get about 8 miles a gallon but at 30 cents a gallon for gas and 60 cents for a quart of oil, it was game on! Crazy fun times and thanks for keeping the ole' Duntov 30/30 alive.

How are you using a feeler gauge when the engine is running? Gm tech at dealerships, Some anyway had instructions on doing it while running. must have been x amount of a turn backwards from 0 lash. Guess with gentle ramps it was forgiving? I always do EOIC one cyl at a time so I know its right.

I would have to say the 283 in the 57 Corvette. Really classy body, mechanical fuel injection. I’m NO cam expert, so please know I stand to be corrected. But from what I’ve read so far, arguably, the 283 benefitted from the Duntov cam grind the most. I’ve seen pics/videos of Nova’s with the front wheels off the ground a few inches with a Duntov 283. Very impressive 🇦🇺👍😎👍🇦🇺

All 283s were small journal and all but One last year of production 327s were small journal. Only Large Journal 327 is 1968. Interesting cam specs. Wonder how the old Duntov 097 would work in a 350?

Just found your channel, really appreciate the straightforward engine runs! I’m building a 377 stroker (virgin block 383) for my ‘67 C20 right now, and it’s nice to hear what different combos sound like. Also I’m just north of Seattle and it’s great to see someone doing this nearby. Favorite factory engine: ‘69 Camaro Z/28 DZ302 crossram. I’m building one of those next!

Fastest car I drove was a '69 Camaro with an LT-1 out of a '69 Vette. Don't know the exact specs, it wasn't stock. Test drove it for a client. It smoked both rear tires through an M-22 in third gear at 100 m.p.h. It was a monster.😬

This would work real well and make more torque for st driving Id think. If you dont care for solids that is Love the lash noise....the myth of having to adjust them all the time is just that, a myth Those locknuts on the rocker arms were meant to be a 1 time use piece only. When adjsting lash use new ones, that way they never back off and get loose. Wish I knew that back in the day

@@BlindSideMotorWorks Bills cam is pretty small directly compared to the Duntov 30/30 and by closing the intake valve at 36.8° you would be compression limited on pump gas due to cylinder pressure. As a rule you never want to have less duration on the exhaust side so 225/223 is a red flag 🚩

@brentonk461ismylostaccount
@brentonk461ismylostaccount 3 месяца назад
@ew4445 In around 1998-2000 you could buy a Harrop 355 crank but they're cast iron and was about $1500 at the time. (At the time the Harrop was Worth double what the car was worth). A cheaper alternative was the pro-comp crank but after looking at it, never put it in that Engine as I changed my mind and bought an 8-71 blower for it The c.o.m.e racing cranks were three and half grand or more at the time and out of my budget. The alternative was too choose the ford y-block crank as it is forged steel and is fully counterweighted. a suitable 292 y-block became available and As I am an engineering Toolmaker I had the skill too make it fit. I then got the rotating assembly balanced. By building the 340 stroker, I was able too achieve a zero deck height without milling the block. First combo had dish tops forged pistons, and about 7.5:1 compression then later flat tops, and 11.1 compression . Probably wouldn't do it again. Was Probably the smoothest running V8 I've ever had though. Since then I I've done a couple of other Holden v8 355 strokers with off the shelf 3.48" stroke cranks. One with Holden Rods, the other two have chev Rods. All have close too zero deck height without milling the blocks. Also done a few small block Chevs as well. They're whole another story. 😁
